Chapter three: The Astral Castles
Hunter was summoned later that day to the throne room and there was a portal in the middle of the room. William and Heath were standing on either side if it. “This portal will lead you to a flight of stairs that are almost invisible. Follow it to the end and there shall be the castle of stars where your youngest sister is.” Hunter, thanking them, stepped into the portal and sure enough, he could see the faintest staircase that didn’t look like it would hold his weight. He took a deep breath and proceeded up the stairs. To his surprise, they were firm beneath his feet, but there was no hand rail, so he had to proceed with caution. At the top, there was the Castle of Stars. Opening the door, Hunter saw that there was a long hall headed towards where the throne room would be. Following it, he entered the room to find his sister upon her knees and scrubbing the floor. Around her floated many stars. “Oh Hunter, you have come,” she called. “What is this sorcery?” he asked. “The stars are designed to stun anyone who tries to come near me without the magic word. And they are designed to stun me should I try to flee, and either way the witch shall know.” Hunter thought for a moment. He had his sword and shield, and he got an idea. “Where are the rags kept?” he asked. “In the linen closest in the kitchen,” his sister answered, and in a moment, Hunter was off. He found the kitchen and the rags. He polished his shield and sword until he could see his face clearly in them, then went back to the throne room. Taking a deep breath, he walked into the room. As a star flew towards him, his shield came up and deflected it. As he continued, more stars came, and Hunter moved quickly to deflect them with his sword and shield. He reached his sister and handed her the shield. “Go first and deflect the stars, and I shall follow doing the same with the sword.” So his sister started walking, and she bravely deflected the stars with the large shield while Hunter moved quickly to use his sword. Finally, they were out the front door and carefully making their way down the stairs. At the bottom stood Riley. He smiled upon seeing them and tapped his staff. The portal re-opened and they stepped through. The sister was warmly greeted by the Storm brothers and given great hospitality. Stephan of the Stormwinds stepped up to the portal and touched it with his staff. “This will take you to the Castle of the Moon. The staircase, while very visible, will try to trick you in many circumstances, so be on youre guard.” Hunter stepped through and found the stairs. They were made of clouds. Stepping on one, he found it solid, but as he continued to climb, he saw that sometimes there were holes in the stairs. Finally, as he was about halfway up, a giant wind blew up and parts of the steps disappeared. Hunter used his sword to tell if there really was steps in front of him, as he had guessed that despite being invisible, they might still be there. Sure enough sometimes clouds were holes and holes were steps. After much careful proceeding, he reached a pale glowing castle. Entering, he found the inside was of a similar structure to the Castle of the Stars. Following the passage, he found his sister sitting on the floor sewing clothes, surrounded by cresent blades swinging this way and that. “Oh Hunter, you have come at alst.” She sighed when she saw him. “What is this sorcery?” Hunter asked. “These swinging blades are designed that no man can get to me without touching the sharp blades on the bottom. And they are sure to keep me in place, for I dare not move until I am bid.” “I will get you out.” Hunter said. He looked at the swinging blades. He went to the kitchen and grabbed some fruit. Going to the closest blade, he threw one on the under side and the fruit was split easily. When the blade came back, he dropped it on the top, but it simply rolled off. Taking a deep breath, Hunter jumped onto the swinging blade and held onto it. He made jump to jump from blade to blade, never slipping or faultering. He finally got close enough to his sister. He took her up and held her across his shoulder. He then jumped quickly across the blades again until he reached the entrance, and he and his sister returned to the portal at the bottom of the cloudy steps. Riley greeted them and opened the portal. “Now for the last passage,” Samuel said, as Hunter’s sister was taken to a comfortable room to see her other sister. “The stairs to the castle are very obvious and will not trick you, but the Castle of the Sun does not like visitors, and will try to make you fall off the steps. Be careful.” Samuel turned the portal and Hunter went into it on his last quest. The stairs were of solid gold and Amber stones and were quite easy to climb, but as he got closer and closer to the top, there was a heat rising and making him sweat and need water. Soon the steps got hot and it was hard to stay on them for more than a few moments. Hunter looked over the edge and saw a great waterfall and he could now hear it since he had noticed it. He resisted his temptation and followed the stairs. At the top it was refreshing and cool. After recoving his breath, Hunter opened the door, but was met with the sight of his sister walking around without any protections. “Oh Hunter, how good of you to come,” his sister said. “Why are you not protected?” Hunter asked. His sister gave a little laugh and suddenly threw dust over him. Hunter was turned to stone from foot to neck. His sister transformed her appearance to that of the witch. “Foolish boy. Did you really think I’d let you rescue all these girls without confrontation?” With another blast of powder, Hunter’s head was turned to stone. As this was done, the berries Hunter had left his parents turned balck. His mother nticed immediutely, and took a knife from the kitchen and cut her hand, splashing blood onto the berries. The witch was just circling the statue, trying to work out what to do with it, when the stone suddenly flew free and knocked her to the ground. Hunter, quickly working out what had happened, took his sword and beheaded the witch before she could throw more powder at him. Within the castle sat his real sister. Hunter took her hand, as she was no longer surrounded by protections, and led her back to the stairs of gold and amber and then to where Riley awaited him at the portal. All the sisters were so glad to be reunited with Hunter and each other that the Storm Brothers had a feast in their honor and invited many other of the sorcerors of the land. A short time later, two of the sisters married to Samuel of the Sunny Day and Stephan of the Stormwinds. Riley and Hunter married as well, while the last sister became close to the twins, but could not marry either of them for she feared it would ruin them as brothers and friends. The many married couples soon returned to the home of Hunter and his sisters, where they were reunited with their parents, and told of their adventures. But here they did not stay, for they took their parents to live out their retirement in the castle, and time past in bliss and happiness, as was well deserved.A/N: Sorry about the chapter delay, but i wasn't overly motivated to finish the story up and so it took a try or two. But please guys, pretty please, reviews and ideas are most welcome (not to mention wanted) at this time. I'd be really grateful. Cheers,
