James walked through his curtains moving to his bedside. Giving a sigh he sat down next to Caitlin, who was already sound asleep. They had been keeping exceedingly odd hours as of late. It was morning but she had only just retired, having been awake all night long. She had suffered a dreadful shock and was in desperate need of her rest. She had mentioned children more then once, so there was no doubt in his mind they were something that was perhaps the most desperate desire of her heart. “It will wait until tomorrow my darling wife. Together we shall open your eyes to the wonders of this mythical land, and you will return to your love of books and . . . turn your attentions towards your husband once again.”
James leaned down over her, brushing her curls back with the curve of his hook placing a tender kiss on her cheek, breathing in her enticing scent that had the power to ensnare his senses. He desperately longed to make love to her. It seemed as if it had been an eternity, since before she was captured and taken away from him. Yet he dare not, not right now. Not until she was ready and he was certain her mind was at rest. James disrobed and removed his hook and harness putting them aside, then slipped into bed beside his bride. He wrapped his arms about her holding her close, sighing in content.
The memories of Hook and Pan’s first encounter had not finished playing out through the Captain’s mind as of yet. It seemed to want to remind him of ancient things long past for some unseen purpose.
“Smee! Have the entire crew fall into a line on the deck immediately. I will have a word with every man aboard. I intend to get to the bottom of this nonsense before the day is out.” He ordered.
“Aye Capt’n” Smee said before heading out of the Captains quarters. Hook was looking over a few charts and maps plotting their next course. They were running the east India trading company route on this venture. This was a company that had made a clear point of punishing pirates that crossed their paths and tried to attack their ships. Most were killed, and any prisoners that were taken were branded with a mark. A “P” for pirate, then they were turned lose. Any man found with this mark was put to death or persecuted beyond recourse if discovered on dry land. Of course, this was a challenge to pirates that enjoyed any sort of high stake danger such as the crew of the Jolly Rodger. Since most others came to fear the route and kept their distance, the company started carrying larger amounts of goods and treasures. In more ways then one they had made themselves the ideal prize.
With such a large operation hanging in the balance, there was no time for these pranks by idle hands. Every man had to have his wits about him for this venture otherwise all would suffer in the end. This particular ship they were tracking, was Captained by a man who had long been a rival of James Hook. It was a man who wore the mask of virtue, but was even more a pirate then James. He lied, and cheated, and stole from his very cargo and the people he worked for and always managed to get away with it. He was also known by his pirate peers to turn in any man, even his best friend and it was suspected his own mother if given the chance, to save his own hide. A hypocrite in the truest sense of the word, whose luck was just about to run out. It was James intention to not only relieve this scum of his cargo and the rich treasures he carried, but to embarrass him to the point he would be shunned for the rest of his days. Perhaps slander his name enough that he could never return to his country. A smile swept James face at this thought, for his hate for this man made him impervious to remorse.
Putting down his charts and compass, he headed out on deck finding his crew gathered just as he had ordered. He walked in front of them looking over each man, before speaking. “As you all know, we have been continually the victims of strange happenings aboard this ship. You have all given blame to these occurrences, to a wraith or some spirit that inhabits these waters.” He came to the end of the row looking at them, before pacing back the same way. “I say that is completely tomfoolery, and there is one here on this deck who is making a mockery out of all of his ship mates. Perhaps out of boredom, perhaps out of spite. Unfortunately I do not care, nor feel any compassion for this individual, and I will seek him out and punish him accordingly!”
All the men looked around at each other before their eyes turned back to their commander. James continued coming to a stop at the center of the line, “I am a reasonable man, and I realize that the heat, and the lack of entertainment whilst we are out at sea, can strain ones mind and provoke him to lose his senses! However! I would suggest that each and every man aboard tries harder. I will show you what happens to those who surrender to their reckless impulses. Now, all of you get back to your duties!” He shouted and the men broke their line and went about mumbling as they moved along.
James turned and started back up the stairs just in time to hear a voice. “Get back in line you useless pack of ingrates!” Every eye looked about before looking up into the sails. Hook’s eyes turned as well, for he was almost certain he heard the echo of his own voice, even though he had not uttered a word. All the men quickly regained their places looking up at their Captain. He furrowed his brow and called out, “Did you not hear me? Back to WORK!” All the crew turned and looked about at each other, and started to walk off again.
“BACK in line! Or I shall carve a maggot hole in your belly!” Such a threat caused everyman to run back to their line. James eyes narrowed as he moved back down the stairs his eyes searching about. “Which one of you DARES to imitate my voice? Show yourself! Step forward before all of you share the punishment for this mischief!” Smee walked closer to the Captain and quickly whispered.
“Capt’n, there be a shadow on the main sail just above us.” Hook turned his eyes to his first mate, wondering how such a thing could be. He looked about finding all of his men on deck gathered before him, and not one face missing. He turned his attention upward though trying to be as discreet as can be. Sure enough, there was the outline of a shadow on the main sail just as Smee had stated, as the clouds passed over the sun and the form soon disappeared.
Keeping his voice quiet he spoke to Smee, “No spirit casts shadows.” The sun shone through the clouds and the outline of the troublemaker was visible once more, as a hand rose to the owner of that shadow’s mouth and the Captain’s voice was heard again. “You call that a line! I have seen straighter coiled ropes lying on deck!” James eyes narrowed, someone was going to pay dearly for pulling such a stunt.
Hook shifted in his sleep still lost in his dream of things long past, yet he settled quickly feeling Caitlin lying beside him and held her closer to him, kissing her shoulder and neck before falling back into his slumber. Aurora could see just barely out of the cloth cover that hid her cage from view. She could tell by the stillness of the air that both James and Cat had finally gone to sleep.
Now, NOW she would get even for all the strange emotions that weak human female had managed to pull out of her strong and courageous Captain! Moving to her feather bed, she pulled out her small hidden bag that she usually carried with her from under it. Reaching inside of the small pouch, she took out a handful of black dust and blew it through a small opening in the top of the glass lantern. Her small voice quickly whispered words that carried the dust across the cabin and into the sleeping woman’s eyes. “Now your dreams will swallow you alive.” The jealous pixie whispered, smiling knowing what was in store.
Caitlin found herself awaking to the sound of running water nearby, such as a small waterfall or a babbling brook. Her eyes opened and it took her only a moment to realize she was outdoors in a strange place. It was far from the bed and Cabin she had fallen asleep in. Looking down, she found she had been resting on a thick patch of green clovers running her fingers through the softness. Slowly she sat up looking about at her new surroundings. A frown swept her face as her eyes started to search, “James?” she questioned finding herself alone. Standing to her feet she walked forward a few steps, “What is this place?” She said nervously, hating when she woke up to find she had been moved.
Hearing a sound of a splash in whatever water was nearby; Caitlin slowly and carefully followed a path that headed in the direction of the sound. Curious as to what was going on now. Wasn’t it still wintertime when she had gone to sleep? How could everything grow so green like the first few days of spring so quickly? It had happened before and she noticed it, but still she had the worst time trying to comprehend the things she saw. Coming to a banana leaf tree in the path, she reached up pulling one of it’s massive leaves out of her way so she could see.
Just below she saw a very familiar scene, although she couldn’t place it, it was identical to the cave Hook had taken her to as a sort of Honeymoon retreat. The difference was it was outside, that fact being the main reason her mind couldn’t put the two together. James sat by the poolside of water, his jacket, vest and shirt removed. Only wearing his harness and the hook that it held in place. He sat by himself on a quilt that also seemed very familiar to her, his eyes cast away from her taking a sip of his wine.
Cat pushed her way through the bush that blocked her path, tripping slightly over a root that arched up enough to catch her foot. Brushing herself off she walked closer calling out to him, “James? What is this place?” She questioned in a quiet voice feeling strange as if something wasn’t quite right. Hook’s eyes turned and looked at her, his smile faded and his eyes gave her an icy cold stare like she was a very unwelcome sight indeed. Never in the time she had been with him, did he look at her in such a way. Not even when he had had too much to drink or was enraged beyond all reason. It sent chills down her spine.
“What in the hell are you doing here woman.” He hissed hatefully at her. Cat could feel her stomach clinch at the tone of his words.
“I . . . I though you would know.” She whispered not able to raise her voice any louder. Just then, a form emerged from the pool of water and moved towards the quilt. Cat couldn’t believe her eyes and closed them a moment as if she didn’t quite believe them, but when she opened them a pale woman with jet-black and purple hair stood starring back at her, a smirk on her face. James attentions turned back to his female companion as the smile and happiness returned to his face. A look that he had always held for Caitlin. He reached up with his good hand, pulling the nearly naked woman into his lap, wrapping his arm around her waist holding her tight.
Both of them looked at Caitlin as if she was not only intruding on their outing together, but some low form of life that wasn’t worthy enough to be in there presence. Cat was stunned, she couldn’t find words to say and found no movement in her body that would take her away from this scene.
The woman smiled at Cat before leaning her head back against James shoulder as she turned his face towards his, giving him a long and lingering kiss. James gave in easily retuning the heated kiss, and his hand touched her cheek, and let his fingertips trace the line of her neck down to her shoulder. They both acted in a way as if they were going to continue with their activities as if Cat wasn’t even there. She felt sick to her stomach as her eyes refused to close or turn away.
She felt hurt, betrayed, and wounded beyond all repair. Finally she forced her eyes to close as a few tears rolled down her cheeks. All at once, every emotion mixed into one burst of pure rage and furry and she found her teeth grit together. “Get . . .off . . . of my HUSBAND!” She yelled as her eyes opened. Reaching down she scooped up a good sized rock that was laying by her feet, and threw it with all of her might hitting the woman squarely in the side of the head.
The woman in James arms screamed in pain and surprise, as her hand flew up to cover the wound on her head. Hook held her fast finding she had been hurt, and his eyes turned up towards Caitlin and began to glow at her assault on his new lover. Cat was to hurt to be afraid. She would take him on and fight him to the death if he came at her. Hook started to move, but the woman he held stopped him. “No.” She said her eyes turning towards Cat, full of hate. “She’s mine.”
At this point, hook seemed to become less of an icon in her dream, even though Caitlin still not aware it was a dream she was suffering from. All of her focus turned to the one who had been the cause of her pain. She stood taking her hand from her head looking at the bits of blood that covered her fingers, rubbing them together before dropping her arm to the side giving a smile towards Caitlin. “Your going to pay for that, you pathetic wench.”
Cat took a deep breath, tears still flowing down her cheeks, as she couldn’t control herself or her feelings any longer. “For every price I am charged it will be well worth it, and I promise you will pay double!” She screamed picking up another rock and throwing it at the woman. Once again it hit its mark, causing her to scream as a wound appeared on her shoulder where it had struck.
Her eyes turned dark looking back at Caitlin, as she growled and lunged at her knocking her to the ground. The woman locked her hands together and gave a shout as she began to bring her fist her hands made together, down as if intending to smash Caitlin’s face. Cat was still quite quick in the realm of combat and rolled over out of the way, bringing her leg back knocking her attacker hard into the nearby pool of water.
Sitting up she looked towards the water as the woman she had just thrown into it thrashed about pulling herself back on shore. Gritting her teeth she looked up at Caitlin, her anger doubling with her frustrations. It was obvious that she intended to strike again. Cat quickly jumped to her feet taking a step back looking about for something to defend herself with.
“Who do you think you are human! This is MY realm! It belongs to me! Just as the Captain Hook does!” The soaked woman shouted at her walking closer. Caitlin frowned at those words, feeling as if some stranger was trying to usurp her position. It was a title that she did not ask for, but it was hers now and she had accepted it long ago.
“I am Caitlin Wendy Hook. The man whom you were sitting on is my husband, and you have no business touching him in such a way!” She said standing up strait and tall looking the dark-haired woman in the eye. “The question I think would be, who do you think YOU are when it is me he gave his name to and NOT you!”
The sound of the Captain’s name lavished on this human was far too much for the woman to stand as she spoke low, “My name is Aurora, and the Captain was mine long before you came into Neverland!” Caitlin’s brow furrowed for a moment. Aurora? Where had she heard that name before? “He would still be mine had he not seen you!” Suddenly Aurora jumped up into the air hitting her hard, throwing her back a few feet. She started to follow after, but Cat quickly got to her feet picking up a branch and swung it at Aurora. The green leafs at the end smacked her hard ripping the skin of her cheek.
Unfortunately, dreams that bore the title of nightmare were most times out of the control of the one having them. Rarely could one take full control of the images that haunted their mind while they were asleep. It was playing out in Caitlin’s mind, but it was not her dream. This dream belonged to someone else, someone who hated her with every fiber of their being, and all the elements surrounding theses two females belonged to Aurora. Turning and looking squarely at Caitlin, the branch flew from her hand out of her reach as if someone had torn it from her grasp. Cat frowned and started to run after it, but Aurora ran after her grabbing her ankle and tripping her.
Caitlin felt as if all of her hope rested on that branch or some sort of weapon in her hands and tried to crawl with all her might towards her fallen salvation. Aurora started to pull and climb up her leg, scratching deep into her skin with her nails leaving wounds all up the back of her body. Finally she reached up grasping Caitlin’s strawberry golden curls jerking her head back as hard as she could, as had always wanted to do from the first time she laid eyes on them. Pressing her knee into the back of Caitlin’s spine she pulled her back even more causing Cat to cry out in pure pain.
“Do you see? You are a weak human, all you can do is cry and run, and make a strong man such as the Captain crumble into pathetic human emotions, taking away his dignity! He shall thank me when you are gone! He will praise me for my deeds! He will forget about you, and will be MINE. I will NOT share him with you!”
Cat grit her teeth, taking a fist full of earth closing her eyes tight as she threw the dirt over her shoulder into Aurora’s eyes. The nearly psychotic woman screamed again falling back off of Caitlin, rubbing her eyes trying to clear her vision. Cat brought her body up on all fours before turning and kicking Aurora in the stomach, knocking her wind from her chest as she fell back on the rocks. Getting to her feet, Cat turned heading for Aurora not wanting her to get to her feet again but was to late as Aurora used Caitlin’s first trick and picked up a rock throwing it at her, hitting her hard in the face.
It stunned Cat as she fell back, her vision blurry and she felt dizzy as she looked about trying to regain her balance so she could stand again and defend herself. Aurora picked up a dagger that was laying on the quilt and ran for Cat, wrapping her arm around her neck and jerking her back holding her tight. Cat struggled but she found herself nearly helpless and unable to move. Aurora’s power and complete control of the dream showing and making itself very obvious once again. “You can’t even bare his offspring, you don’t even love him, you can NEVER make him happy! Only I can!” She shouted before plunging the knife deep into Caitlin’s side.
The pain it caused, made Caitlin cry out both in her dream and the waking world. James eyes popped open looking about, before finding his wife struggling in his arms as if she was in pain. Quickly sitting up he reached over and touched her face, “Caitlin?” It only took him a moment to realize she was having another nightmare, perhaps worse then the others. “Caitlin, wake up. Beloved, open your eyes your having a nightmare.” He coaxed touching her gently and running his fingers through her hair wanting to wake her up as gently as possible.
In her dream Caitlin gasped for air, as Aurora withdrew the knife from her body and plunged it deep into her flesh again drawing it through her body tearing it open. Pulling it across her stomach she plunged it in again and again, wanting her to suffer and feel as much pain as she could inflict while she had her here at her mercy. As cat looked up, she saw James walking towards her standing over them in silence. A smirk crossed his lips, as he watched her blood flow out over the ground below the two struggling females. Slowly she reached up her hand reaching towards him, barely able to speak or breathe. “James . . .” she whispered, tears filling her eyes. “Help me please . . . please. .” She began to cough up blood losing the ability to speak. Her eyes still on the one who had been her protector, the one who cared for her and took care of her since he brought her back and married her. But he just gave her a look of disgust and shook his head, turning and walking away as if leaving her to be done away with. Aurora leaned down next to Caitlin’s ear.
“What is the phrase that my love uses so often towards his crew members? Carve a maggot hole in their belly’s?” She hissed into her ear. Caitlin was already in deep pain as Aurora pulled the dagger out of her wounded body again holding it to her chest. Suddenly she felt strange sensations in the wounds on her stomach. Her eyes closed tight, as the horrible feeling that she knew what she would see crept into her heart if she looked. Yet in every dream, everyone must look and they can’t help it or save themselves for it. Slowly her eyes opened and turned down, seeing the wounds she had sustained crawling with maggots. To many to count, her eyes grew wide. Horror filled her body as she could feel them dig into her flesh. Her breath became faster and faster, finally one shriek after another filled the silence.
James was struggling with her as she slept, and when she started shrieking he began to panic as well. He pulled her up from the bed and started to shake her, “CAITLIN! DAMNATION! WAKE UP!!! WAKE UP THIS INSTANT!!” He shouted hoping to roust her awake. Finally her eyes opened, but she continued to shriek afraid she was still in the dream and still in danger. Her eyes shifted around the room trying to see of the horrors she had seen still surrounded her. Seeing her awake James quickly pulled her closer holding her tight, “Caitlin, it is alright. It was just a dream, your safe here, your safe with me.” Her eyes looked up at James and she was still to terrified to calm down. Reaching up she began to strike at him trying to push him away from her.
Already close to the edge of the bed, she fell to the floor onto her knees and turned starting to crawl away. But she stopped suddenly, as the final images of her dream returned to haunt her again and she wrapped both arms around her stomach screaming in terror. James quickly got down on the floor next to her wrapping his arm around her once more trying to hold her down. She started to shout at him trying to fight him off as she had before, “Caitlin stop it, calm down! Stop this, your safe no one is going to harm you.” It was useless, she was absolutely hysterical and kept wrapping her arms around her stomach before trying to beat the Captain off again.
Shaking his head he tried to hold her down, wrapping his bad arm behind her as he used his good hand to try to bind her hands in her lap. “SMEE!!!” He bellowed loud, before turning towards the door yelling again, “SMEE!!!!!” He turned back to his wife using all of his strength to retrain her.
Aurora sat on her feather bed, a smile across her face listening to the commotion. The human woman was completely distraught and half out of her mind with fear. She felt a great sense of satisfaction that she inflicted such devastating turmoil on her. Stretching her arms above her head with a yawn, and fluttering her wings a few times she lay down on her quill and pulled a large leaf over her, feeling exhausted and ready for sleep.
