Many different scenes of what Hook might do to remedy this situation quickly passed through his mind. He could walk over and throw the little monster out of his wife’s lap, he could also call for Smee to come and remove the little rascal from the cabin, he could even order him thrown overboard to the evil and sinister mermaids that dwelled below. As good as these ideas were, each and everyone would upset Caitlin greatly and cause her to become angry with him putting even more of a strain on their delicate relationship.
Hook’s eyes shifted towards the pair who sat at the table. He couldn’t deny how radiant she looked in her happiness. It was a look that had been absent for so long, it gave him a sense of relief to see it had return rather then being lost forever. Yet he wanted the honor of bringing her light back into her eyes, he would have found a way if he had just a little more time he was certain of this.
Before another thought could pass through his mind, the story was over and Caitlin put the book down on the table. She set the boy to his feet, and stood beside him taking his hand in hers. “Come with me Danny, I’ll show you where the different constellations are, and the stories behind their names.” Her voice came through lips that held a huge smile, and the young lads face lit up. “Do you know what constellations are? They are pictures in the sky. . .” Together they rushed passed Hook heading out of the cabin doors down to the deck. James was speechless, at a loss for words . . .why it was as if he wasn’t even there, invisible to the human eye. His grow furrowed as he walked to the door of his cabin looking after them.
Caitlin led the child towards the supply area where several large boxes where set. She sat down pulling the boy into her lap yet again, wrapping her arm around him and pointing towards the sky. Showing him where the different shapes where, telling him the story that matched each one of the figures. James just stood there dumbfounded, and to shocked to find any true emotion to be overwhelmed with. How was it that in just a matter of moments, she seemed to just glow and come alive? Why on earth had she never done so where he was concerned? Hook school his head, and gave a sigh. Turning he walked back into his cabin leaving the two to their flight of fancy. Tonight she could have her fun, but then the boy would be taken back to the island and kept there. Only allowed to return and visit Cat whenever the Captain ordered it.
A few hours later, Caitlin opened the door of the cabin slowly finding it as dark as pitch. Carefully she crept in trying not to make a sound that might disturb James who was sure to be asleep, closing the door behind her. Cat squinted her eyes a bit trying to help them adjust to the darkness faster, but she couldn’t even make out shapes with the drapes drawn tight and not a candle lit in the entire chamber. She moved silently, closing her eyes trying to remember the way without seeing. Finally she found success and her hands found the chest she had sought. Turning the latch, she pushed the lid open and began to rummage around inside of it.
James had been waiting, and waiting for Caitlin to return to the cabin, and finally after an eternity had passed, she appeared. As he had been in the room with no light for hours, his eyes were fully adjusted and he could see her womanly figure just fine in the darkness. James moved silently stepping behind her and wrapping his arms around her a little rougher then he intended, and he began lavishing kisses to her velvet skin. It had been quite a while since he began longing for her, giving him ample time for his excitement to grow. Caitlin jumped a bit, startled when she was suddenly seized by the darkness. But she quickly found herself wrapped in her husbands familiar and strong embrace giving a sigh of relief.
James kissed over her neck and shoulders hungrily, running his good hand down over her stomach moving to caress her abdomen through the folds of her dress. Layers and layers she wore but he could easily remove them with his growing lust. “I thought you would never return.” He breathed heavily into her ear. Cat stood still as he held her close trying to keep a firm hold on her senses as he continued to kiss and caress her soft skin.
“James, I’m glad to see you’re still awake.” She whispered, her voice trembling a bit as her breath was starting to retreat deep into her chest. Hook smiled a bit, pressing his teeth to her skin just a bit not even enough to pinch, although the temptation was there. His good hand quickly moved up her side to the back of her dress, lacing his fingers under the ties that held the garment in place.
“Not as glad as I my dear, to see you finally retire to our bedchambers.” He whispered into her ear, as his fingers anxiously began to pull the ties. Cat saw this as the only opportunity she would have to bring up the question she wished to ask.
“Yes retiring. Retiring is something I wanted to ask you about, James.” Cat tried to begin, as James moved to switch sides to continue his caresses. She was having a devil of a time trying to focus as his touches felt wonderful to her, but this was a pressing matter that needed attention immediately.
“You have no need to ask my love, we shall adjourn to bed presently.” Hook moved wrapping his arms around her getting a better grip so he could lift her into his arms and carry her back to their bed. Cat took a deep breath and found herself blurting out the question.
“May Danny also adjourn to bed with us as well?” James stopped his explorations and movements a moment, not certain if he had heard her worlds correctly. It was light a cold chill had just been sent down his spine. There was no possible chance that Caitlin had not known what was on his mind and his intentions were.
“I beg your pardon?” Cat cleared her throat having the same feeling as the animal her feline nickname referred to, as if ever muscle in her body tensed at the tone of his question. Turning her head enough so that she could look up at him, she tried a little harder to gain his approval.
“Please James? It’s such a cold night and he needs somewhere warm and safe to sleep. What better place then with us, there is more then enough room and he wouldn’t have to be afraid of anything.” James just starred into her eyes for a moment, surely she was having a bit of fun with him. She couldn’t be serious with her proposal.
“I should think he most certainly would have something to be afraid of, ME! I have no intention of sharing my bed with one of those lost boys under any circumstances. I ordered it built for two, not for three and I do not wish to see if more then the intended capacity could be comfortably exceeded.” He said with half a smile deciding he would humor her and play her game. However, as he gazed into her eyes he soon realized she was as serious as could be about this. Hook released her just starring at her, how could she even imagine it! Caitlin wasn’t sure she liked how this was beginning to shape, and she turned around looking at him.
“James please?” “NO! Are you mad! Has the illness you have suffered from these past few weeks taken your last common sense woman!” His eyes glared at her with utter disbelief and a bit of disgust she would request such a thing of him. Caitlin was not dumb, she knew that it was very unlikely he would agree to such a thing but she had to try. She looked around the cabin a moment, and paused seeing the door to the smaller room where she had slept the first few weeks of their marriage. James had ordered it removed, but the carpenter had not had a chance to take it out as of yet since there was always someone occupying the cabin.
“Couldn’t he stay in there? In the smaller room that used to be mine? There is a bed and blankets and everything.”
“Why must you ask me such fool hearty questions, Caitlin! ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!”
Cat frowned at this looking into his eyes, why was he being this way? He wouldn’t be in their cabin; he would be in a room of his own in a bed of his own. “Why not?”
James sighed becoming frustrated with this conversation, he had intended that both of them would be completely unclothed by now laying together side by side in their own bed, that still had yet to be christened in a proper manner for the husband and wife that slept there. Reaching out, careful to mind his hook so he did not harm her not wishing to repeat an incident that occurred before, he pulled her hard against his body. “Because, I intend to fill this cabin with your screams of pleasure and cries of passion for the rest of the night and well into tomorrow! There is no place in my cabin for that child, the only person to share it is you, YOU and no other!”
Caitlin clenched her jaw looking up at him. Hook recognized the look of defiance, as it seemed he had just given her a cause to crusade against for she thought it was completely unfair. His eye began to twitch again as it had earlier when he first saw them together at the table reading that blasted book. “Caitlin, what goes on behind the closed doors of this cabin is private. Between you and I, and the two of us alone. I will not have that boy’s presence hindering my exercising a husband’s right to his wife! Do I make myself clear!?!”
Caitlin’s look darkened. “Crystal.” Pulling back from Hook, she threw his arms from her body. Pausing a moment as she just starred into his eyes. “If he may not sleep here in safety and comfort that we enjoy, I will go below decks and find him another place to sleep and keep him safe watching over him myself.” James felt like this was an out and out challenge and felt more then equal to the task. Cat turned heading for the doors intending to walk through them and not return for the rest of the night. Perhaps many nights that followed after had this conflict not be resolved.
James was not about to let this get out of hand as many things had done before. He followed after her grabbing her arm and spinning her back around to face him holding her in place. “Caitlin Wendy Hook, how DARE you try to threaten me in such a manner! Why I should . . .” He stopped looking into her eyes, seeing tears forming there. He knew immediately that she did not want to leave and walk out on him as she had been preparing to do. This confused him extensively as he watched Cat turn her eyes away from him not wishing him to see her cry. “Why did you say such a thing if you did not mean it? You know how it upsets me.”
“James what am I supposed to do? He has no one to care for him, no parents, no bedroom of his own to keep him warm and safe through the night. Am I just to let him freeze to death, or let him feel afraid and alone when it can be prevented?” A tear escaped her eye and rolled down her cheek. There was more going on here then just his denying her request, for he knew she was not one to get so emotional over every little thing when her wits where about her. Perhaps she was putting herself in Red’s place. He was an orphaned child with no parents and no one who really carried enough to look after him. Just as Caitlin had been once her parents were gone and she was placed with other families who were assigned to pick up where her parents had left off.
Stepping closer he placed his hand on her shoulder and his hook behind her back pulling her against him looking deep into her eyes. “Caitlin, he may not stay here. We will find him a place to sleep below with the crew tonight, and in the morning he must return to the island. You are young and full of compassion.” Reaching up he raised her chin gently, “That light in your eyes that can only be the light of a truly caring heart, makes me love you all the more.” He spoke softer now resting his forehead to hers, brushing her neck slightly with his fingertips, still quite worked up from before. “However, no matter how hard you try and how much you strive . . . you shall never be able to save the entire world, nor every last person in it.” Cat had been looking up into his eyes taking in everything he said, and deep inside she knew it was right. Her eyes instantly went downcast, hating the fact she could not help everyone when so many needed help. James sighed softly still looking towards her eyes.
“He must go back. I realize I have not explained the rules of this world to you and have done my absolute best to shield you from it. Which is why you feel this is an unjust decision. You must continue to trust me as you have thus far. His place is on the island with his brothers, and yours is here . . . with me, by my side.” Caitlin remained silent as she looked up into Hook’s eyes once more. “I will allow a visitation a week between you and the child here on the ship, but he must stay with his brothers on the island less we bring the heavens themselves down upon our heads.” He could see her turning around his guidelines in her mind, and he waited a moment not hearing an answer one way or the other. “Is this an acceptable proposition my love?” James questioned. Caitlin gave a sigh and her eyes turned downcast again and nodding.
Embracing her tightly for a moment he whispered, “I shall have arrangements made for the child tonight, but tomorrow he will be taken back to shore. It is well past time to retire my darling, go in and change out of these constricting things into your bed clothes and I will return shortly.” Hook pulled back looking into her eyes for a moment as she nodded before releasing her and leaving the cabin walking out on the second deck. “SMEE!!!” His voice roared over the ship. A few moments later, the little old man with the silly looking glasses scrambled his way on deck as fast as his feet could take him before standing at a semi-attention, hoping he would not be punished for not appearing immediately.
“Yes Capt’n? You called?” Hook looked down below at Smee, “Have our guest escorted below decks and given to the surgeon. He shall stay the night and be taken to the shore come dawn.” Smee nodded looking over seeing the boy still sitting on the supply boxes gazing up at the stars. James gave a sigh of annoyance as his eyes narrowed also seeing the child. That little maggot had better watch his step, otherwise he would be taught a permanent lesson about invading ones home and coming between them and their bride. “Aye Capt’n.” Smee walked over to the lad and tapped his shoulder. “Come on you, time for bed.” The boy looked up at Smee a moment before standing ready and more then willing to go with him.
James watched as his first mate and the child disappeared below, before rolling his eyes looking up towards the stars, silently uttering curse after curse that his hands were now bound. That child would have met a fate worse then hell itself had Caitlin not taken such an enormous shine to the boy. He gave a loud sigh looking out over the sea. The moonlight cast it’s mesmerizing glow over the island and the water, and the stars shone brightly. An idea crept into his mind. “CLEAR THE DECK IMMEDIATELY, I want all pirates below decks and not even a watch to return until I call for them!” He shouted down. The men looked about at each other never having heard this strange order before. James gave a sigh of annoyance not seeing one soul moving an inch in any direction. “Have you all been taken deaf? GET BELOW DECK!” Jumping up the men disappeared as they had been ordered.
Hook turned back towards his cabin doors silently planning out his actions, before returning inside. He had said that he wished to remove Caitlin from their cabin more often, for she had spent far to much time dwelling there already. What better way then to start right this minute? If the stars captivated her so much, he would show them to her in a whole new light.
Meanwhile, Peter and Tink had landed to rest and looked at each other as they spoke. “Well Tink, we’ve looked everywhere. All over the island, inside the island, under the island, we found not one trace of that fairy except for the dust left behind in our hide out. There is only one place we haven’t searched, the one place where all the most fiendish evil in all of Neverland is.” Tinkerbell nodded and they both looked towards the sails of the ship that was anchored just off shore of the island. “She must be there, where else would she be? Captain Hook must have captured her and forced her to do this dark magic to suit his own purposes.”
Just because Peter Pan was the young rouge that went around playing hero in this place, does not mean he was the most intelligent of beings. If he were, he would have realized that sending a fairy to cast that certain spell on the lost boys, would have deprived him of the very woman he had set out to save from her captors in the first place. Unfortunately in this instance, the leader of the lost boys instincts were wrong. Indeed Captain Hook had captured the fairy so he would have passage back to Neverland, but he had also released her shortly after they had returned. Hook was just as oblivious to the dangers that lie in a glass box that was kept in his very cabin as Peter was.
Caitlin stood in her closet, changed into her nightgown brushing her long hair down over her shoulders as it fell in little curls and ringlets. James stood in the doorway for a few moments watching her, feeling his blood begin to warm again as it had earlier in the evening. Hook walked inside unable to bide his time and wait as he was used to doing. He wrapped his arms around her hungrily kissing the soft place between her neck and shoulder pressing his body against her. Caitlin closed her eyes and leaned her head back against his shoulder, reaching up wrapping her hand around his hook pulling his arm tighter around her body.
“Show me the constellations Caitlin.” Hook whispered into her ear breathlessly kissing her neck to her cheek before returning to her ear, “Tell me the stories that go with each ones name.” Cat’s eyes opened thinking that an odd request. She had resolved herself to submit to him however he wished, putting her own fears and nervousness aside. Did he now want a change of venue?
“What?” She asked softly, her eyes open wide waiting for confirmation on what he asked. Honestly, she didn’t mind if that was what he decided he wished to do. However she still thought it was a bit strange, especially with the way he was acting now. James took a breath and whispered into her ear again.
“Take me out on deck and point out the figures that reside in the bright beacons that lie nights black tapestry.” Caitlin closed her eyes listening to his words, his words that were so lyrical and captivating, as if he spoke pure poetry whenever he wished making her feel wonderful with each utterance. “Show them to me Caitlin, show them to me in a way I have never looked at them before.”
Taking a ragged breath she nodded slowly, letting him know she would happily share her knowledge with him. Even though in the back of her mind she knew he was a sailor, and as the Captain of this ship a Navigator as well who knew each star and every constellation. He must have known more about them then she ever could. “Good.” He whispered to her, kissing her cheek. “I will retrieve a quilt and we shall go out on deck together and gaze at the stars.” Kissing her again, not wanting to let her go, he exited the closet to get what he had said.
Unconsciously, this was something that was devised and born of his jealousy. What better way to prove that she was his then having her show her the same things that she had shown that arrogant little child, just before he took her under those same stars. Perhaps had it not been something that had been seen earlier, it would have been thought of as a most romantic idea. However James was not thinking about the real reason he was doing this, and Caitlin was not analyzing his reasons. Caitlin was still overly naive and thought he was just wanting to know the stories she knew and nothing else. She would soon find out her husband had an ulterior motive.
