Ok, I'll be honest, I don't know when I'll be able to update again after today. It may be a few days from now, it may be a couple of weeks. I just wanted to apologize in advance if it takes me a while.
And a warning to those very weak of stomach, there is some molestation in this chapter. Not very detailed, I swear, but I thought I'd give fair warning.
Mike was haunted the next day. He wouldn’t meet anyone’s gaze and he barely spoke. My discomfort and suspicions of the day before rose.
Mike sat alone at lunch. That was the final sign, the final piece of evidence I needed; he never sat alone.
I startled Jasper with my abrupt departure from the table, but he didn’t follow when Edward explained my destination.
I slid into the seat directly beside Mike. His body tensed in a brief moment of obvious surprise and fear, confirmed through Jasper, but he relaxed when he realized it was me.
“Hello, Mike,” I said quietly.
He raised a hand in greeting, not speaking.
“You okay?”
He nodded.
“Liar.” He looked at me finally, fear creeping into his blue eyes and bursting forth. “What did he do?” I didn’t feel like beating around the bush.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he stated, looking away. His voice was rough and dry, like he was sick, but I knew better. I had sounded the same after that first day…
“Horse chips.” He turned confused eyes back to me. I sighed. “BS, bull crap, etc.”
“Oh.”
“You know exactly what I mean. You didn’t just discuss grades, did you?” I made my tone gentle so as not to alarm him.
He looked around wildly, determining if he was around or if anyone could hear us, before shaking his head in the negative.
“What did he do?”
He shook his head again. “I can’t say.”
“Dang it, Mike, ignore what he threatened.”
“No. I can’t.”
“Do you want to know why I reacted how I did when I saw him?”
A hesitant nod.
“He was my teacher a couple of years ago in Oregon. He molested me, made me please him in a way that killed my self-esteem and respect.” Mike was hiding his face in his hands. “Is that what he did?”
“Yes,” he sobbed. I could smell his salty tears and see his strain to remain calm. I touched his shoulder and he immediately turned to me, burying his face in my shirt.
I heard a scuffle on the other side of the cafeteria. Jasper was standing with Edward grabbing hold of his shirt. I could barely hear their conversation, so I knew no one else could.
Edward was telling Jasper that Mike needed me right now; it was the same situation. Jasper calmed, knowing Mike wasn’t assaulting me, but I knew he was angry at Perkins.
I met his gaze and mouthed, “We’re going to get him.”
He nodded curtly, still watching over me and Mike.
“Mike, I have a plan to get him fired,” I said quietly. “Will you listen?”
“Only if it gets him thrown in jail,” Mike muttered harshly.
“It might, but I’m going to have to ask something of you, Mike.”
“Okay.”
“If he asks you to stay after class today, do it. Jasper and I won’t leave. We’ll get the principal and make sure Perkins will rue the day he ever touched a student.”
“I can’t…”
“Yes you can, Mike. I promise. I’ve been through the same thing. I swear we’ll get him.”
He nodded hesitantly against my chest.
“I am very sorry, Mike, for what he put you through. After today, he won’t do it again.”
“Okay.” He wasn’t crying anymore.
“Are you going to be okay?”
“Yeah.” He sat back in his seat and wiped his face. “Thank you.”
“No problem.” I gave him a final pat on the back and returned to Jasper.
“Can I kill him?” he asked.
“Who?”
“Perkins.”
“As much as I would love you to, it wouldn’t go well with my plan.”
“I think locking him up is letting him off easy.”
“Not if he gets paired with a horny cellmate.”
Bella spit water across the table.
“You okay?” I asked as Edward gently patted her back.
“What did he do to piss you off?” she replied when she stopped coughing.
I felt my jaw lock, though my anger was irrational; she didn’t know. “Things I would rather not think about.”
“Oh.” A bit of fear, anger, and disgust crossed her dark brown eyes. “I’m sorry; I didn’t know.”
“It’s all right. He’ll get what’s coming to him.”
Jasper and I waited at the end of the hall, listening intently for the sounds coming form Perkins’ classroom.
They were talking very quietly, so I couldn’t understand anything, even with vampire hearing. It wasn’t until I heard Mike whimpering that we knew to make a move.
I tried the door handle; locked. I pushed on the door, breaking the lock and causing the door to swing crookedly.
“You bastard!” Jasper yelled. My body froze at the sight before me, though I had known what it would be.
Perkins had his hand fisted in Mike’s hair as he pounded into Mike’s mouth. Tears were running down Mike’s face as he struggled not to choke.
Then, the scene changed. Jasper held Perkins against the wall by his throat. Mike collapsed on the floor, sobbing now. I wrapped my arms around him, shushing him softly. He tensed, then clung to me, hiding his face against my chest.
“Don’t kill him,” I said to Jasper when I noticed Perkins’ lack of air.
He stared at me in disbelief. “How could you—”
“You know why,” I stated firmly. “Let him go, and get the principal.”
Jasper released Perkins in disgust and strode from the room, not arguing. Perkins slumped in the floor, trying to catch his breath.
“Don’t even think about moving,” I warned. He curled his knees to his chest, attempting to cover his naked lower half, since his pants weren’t within reach.
Mike was calming, though he continued to shiver in fear. I caressed his spine, trying to convey my understanding.
“Aw, suck it up, Newton,” Perkins had the audacity to speak, though he shut up when I angrily glared his way.
“How would you like to know how it feels, huh?” I practically yelled. “How would you like to have someone fuck your mouth while you choke and try to tell them to stop?”
“No,” Mike whimpered. “I don’t want to…”
“It’s okay, Mike. It’s going to be all right. I’m here and he won’t hurt you or anybody else anymore.” I heard Jasper and the principal enter the room behind me.
“What is going on here?” the principal asked.
“Well, sir, I believe you have a teacher who likes to molest students,” I growled.
“Perkins, is this true?” The man in question looked from me to Mike to Jasper to his pants to his feet. He nodded meekly, knowing he couldn’t get away.
When the police arrived, Perkins was immediately cuffed (they did let him put his pants on first).
Chief Swan approached Mike and me. We stood, though Mike was leaning heavily on me, for comfort I presumed.
“Hello, boys,” he said quietly.
“Chief Swan,” I replied. Mike only nodded.
“Can you tell me what happened?”
I looked to Mike, who took a deep breath and shakily told the chief what happened. I extricated myself from Mike’s grip. He turned sad, desperate eyes to me, but a look of understanding crossed his face when Jasper walked my way.
Jasper engulfed me in a sudden hug. I returned it, clinging tightly to the security he offered.
“I wanted to kill him,” he whispered.
“I know.”
“I still do.”
“Me, too.”
“Why didn’t you let me?”
“We don’t need to traumatize Mike anymore than he already is. And you don’t need to go to jail.”
“I would have been justified.”
“But you still would have gone to prison for a while.”
He sighed. “That doesn’t change how I feel right now.”
“What are you feeling?”
“I’m so angry.” He hugged me tighter and whispered, “I was so scared.”
“Why were you scared?” I asked just as softly.
“I didn’t know how you would react to him, and I didn’t want to lose you to the memories again.”
“What do you mean?”
He moved back to look in my eyes. “You don’t remember?”
“I only remember the day I told you…everything. So, are you talking about then?”
“No. It was before school started in January. Do you remember?”
I shook my head. “What happened?”
“I’ll tell you later. Not here.”
I nodded.
“Mike needs a hug,” he whispered. I looked over at the forlorn teen who still stood by Chief Swan, though neither were talking. The chief seemed…uncomfortable with Mike’s stress, like he didn’t know what to say.
“Well, give him one.”
“He might not be receptive of me.”
“What are you talking about? Emos give the best hugs because they’re always hugging themselves. You’ll be fine.”
He narrowed his eyes. “Are you calling me emo?”
“I love your hugs,” I evaded. “Go hug Mike.”
“This conversation is not over.”
I sighed. “I only called you emo because you can feel everyone’s emotions and I thought it would get on your nerves,” I whispered.
“Oh.”
“Go. Hug.” He nodded and walked towards Mike, who still looked a little lost and scared.
Mike tensed when Jasper’s arms wrapped around his upper body, but he relaxed and returned the gesture when I smiled at him.
“It’s going to be all right, Mike,” Jasper whispered. “We’ll be here if you need us.”
I watched as Mike’s weak façade crumbled and his lips trembled as the tears began to flow freely down his face. Chief Swan seemed relieved that Jasper had come to his rescue.
“What do you think is going to happen, sir?” I questioned when he walked away from Mike and Jasper.
“To Newton or Perkins?” he replied.
“Perkins.”
“He’ll sit in a jail cell until trial and then hopefully stay there from five to ten years.”
“Dang. That is letting him off easy.”
“What do you mean? It’s only one count against him, so they can’t hold him there longer than that.”
I looked away, not meeting his gaze. “But it wasn’t just one count, sir. He did the same thing repeatedly to me a couple of years ago in Oregon.”
Why didn’t you say something before now?”
“I didn’t think he’d be stupid enough to try something again, and if he was, that he’d try it with me instead of someone else.”
“You have to come forward with information like this.”
“I know. That’s why I’m telling you now, chief.”
“Call me Charlie.”
Um...I mean nothing by the emo comment, in case that offended anyone. Just wanted to clarify.
I want to know what y'all are thinking 'bout this chapter. Seriously. 'Cause there'll be some, as I think, shocking bits in the next chapter as soon as I finish and post it. I know what I want to say, but it's the wording bit and having time, you know?
'Nother question... What do you think the shocking bits are? I love hearing speculation...
purpleranger76--Thanks for reviewing! It's nice to hear from new people. And, yes, I've considered writing from JPOV, but... I don't know if I could do it justice. :P
elvinwitch--Why would I excuse you? I like your wording. -lol- Oh, and about the parents... Just wait. ;)
Alecto--I hate those days. Today seems to be one for me, so maybe I'll have time for that next chapter... Anyway, I think he got the reminder. ;)
