A/N: I’m here, I’m here! I’m very glad that you are still here too. This one is just a little short, but I didn’t want to keep you waiting any longer. As many of you know, I moved out of state for the first time in my life recently. I’ve been busy getting established here, and trying to make a living which isn’t always easy! But we’ll chat more after. Enjoy!
Mollie“You know X is gonna be pissed right?” Swan said to me as she turned off the street the ballet studio was on.
I sighed.
“I know.”
“Especially that you told me first,” she added, sounding a little smug.
“Which is why she doesn’t need to know that,” I said in a threatening tone.
Seth reached up from the back seat and gently squeezed my shoulder, reminding me that even though Xandra wouldn’t like it, it was be good news that we’d be sharing tonight at dinner.
I wished I could have sat back there with Seth, but Swan wouldn’t ever let us ride in the back of her car together. She said I’d probably be pregnant by the time we got where we were going.
Since those two vampires were at the workshop she was going to, Swan got to have a wolf escort to every class. She wasn’t happy about it, and she was picky about who it was.
The first rule was she drove herself. She wanted her car, and her music. She said she wasn’t about to be driven around like a child. She didn’t want Dad to ever do it, be he’d said too bad. He did it sometimes, but it was always one of the older wolves that did it. The more time it had had time to sit with him, the less he liked the idea of her staying in that class. There was a pretty ugly fight the day after her second class where he’d tried to tell her that she was quitting. Swan freaked out on him. That she’s an basically an adult, can take care of herself, all of that stuff. Mom pointed out that Sasha and Kira were in town weather we liked it or not, and that we could also keep better a better eye on them if Swan stayed. As soon as Mom said that, everybody knew that Swan was staying in that class. One of the wolves going with her had ended up being the compromise.
Miss queen bee didn’t want Xandra coming anymore. She could tell that Swan had the hots for Sasha and teased her relentlessly the whole rest of that day. When Xandra asked if Sasha had asked her out for a blood sundae yet, that was the last straw. Swan marched right up to Dad and demanded that anybody other than Xandra go with her from now on.
Xandra walked past my room and winked at me.
“Got out of that real quick didn’t I?”
Lately, Swan had been a little disappointed that Sasha hadn’t paid her a whole lot of attention. At least, not as much as she thought he should I guess.
When we got home from Swan’s class, I knew Mom was hard at work on her homemade chilli before we got inside. I could smell the beef sizzling. Inside I saw the fresh tomatoes on the cutting board.
“Asa!” Mom called through the kitchen window. “I’m waiting on those onions, and bring in two more tomatoes please.”
“Got it!” he answered from out in the garden.
I could see Dad out there with him. He liked to watch Asa work his magic.
“You two are on garlic bread duty,” Mom told Seth and I, and pointed to the ingredients that were already waiting on us.
While Seth’s and I were spreading the freshly made garlic butter onto the bread, I Anthony’s car rolling up the driveway. I smiled to myself. If he drove here instead of running, that usually meant they brought Lucky. He was the cutest thing on three legs. Daisy, of course, was the cutest thing on two.
She was still shy, but had definitely come around. By now, she was beyond spoiled. Even Seth and I couldn't help getting her a little something once in a while.
I'd say she was generally a pretty happy kid, but she still had her setbacks. The poor little sweetie still expected Anthony to act like her dad sometimes.
A couple of weeks ago I overheard Mom and Dad on the phone with A.J. and heard about a pretty rough night. Anthony woke up at 2 a.m. to what sounded like pots and pans banging around in the kitchen. He'd expected to find a cute scene with Daisy banging on pots with spoons or something, having herself a little middle of the night drum solo action. What he found was Daisy, naked from the waist down hurriedly shoving her bed sheets into a cabinet under the sink. He just watched her for a minute, puzzled, as she struggled to fit them all in there. Finally, he asked what she was doing. The response he got was a wide eyed stare, followed immediately by frantic, high pitched shrieking. Anthony said he panicked, who could blame him for it, and ran to get Amy.
She'd woken up too by then. Not many mothers could sleep through their kid screaming the way A.J. described it, Mom had told him.
What had happened, was Daisy had wet the bed, and was trying to hide the evidence. From what Amy said, in the past her douche bucket father Randy had been really hard on Daisy for having accidents. Apparently he'd make her sleep on those dirty sheets the rest of the night. How somebody could be that cruel to a little kid is something I don't think those of us with fully functioning brains will ever be able to understand.
Amy had to get a new phone because he wouldn't leave her alone. For a while there, we thought he was just going to let it go, but apparently not. She was still afraid he'd come after her. She didn't need to be because even though she didn't know it, he was still being watched by the pack. If I was her I'd probably feel just the same way.
Daisy got to the door first, I could hear her little fists pounding on the door.
"Lemme in!"
“Holy crap, Daisy," Amy muttered. "I think you can be a little more polite."
"Lemme in...please!"
I peeked out of the kitchen to see Dad answer the door. As soon as he did, Daisy got shy and backed up into Amy’s legs. She had to warm up to him again every time she saw him. She was still like that with every guy she was around. I really hoped she'd grow out of that. If she didn't, that would be a sad way to go through life.
She was looking pretty damn fabulous in a Batman mask and fairy wings.
"And who is this?" Dad asked.
"Super Strong Bat-fairy," Daisy whispered.
"Yes!" I shouted. “Nice!”
"So much awesome!" Xandra agreed as she ran down the stairs.
"So much," Daisy repeated quietly, then grabbed Xandra's hand and ran to where I was standing at the edge of the kitchen.
"Shh," she said, lifting the mask only enough to reveal her true identity.
"It's really just me, Daisy," she admitted. "Shh!"
She ran off to spill the beans to Mom too, her supremely girly pink wings bouncing behind her.
"I dunno how good a grasp she has on the whole secret identity thing," Asa said from behind me.
"Eh, it's pretty loose I think," Seth said with a smile.
Amy looked nice, and I told her that. Swan had given her a little makeup lesson. Amy didn't really need to wear much. As Mom had said, her skin was "lovely."
"I love it when your brother comes over," Mom said happily stirring the huge vat of chilli. "It just makes everything feel complete."
She went to give Amy a copy of the chilli recipe.
I sighed.
Seth squeezed my hand. We were alone in the kitchen now. He traced his fingertip along the outside of my ear, it made my thighs clench and my breath catch.
"We could wait, you know," he reminded me.
"No, we can't. It'll be fine," I assured him.
As we ate, I didn't really listen to Asa talking about the manly things he was doing with his friends around the rez. He'd been on some weird quest to prove his masculinity lately. I guess you feel the need to do that when you live almost all chicks and spend a lot of time playing with flowers.
I half listened to the newest stories of how cute Daisy is. Sorry, I mean Super Strong Bat-Fairy.
"Mom," I said abruptly. It came out louder then I had intended, and everybody looked at me. I hadn't been nervous, until right that second.
"Seth and I found a little house to rent and we really love it and we are going to sign the lease tomorrow and make it official."
It was totally silent for about a second. I had just enough time to register Mom's sad smile before Xandra's chair clattered to the floor behind her. She was a blur in her people hoodie as she hauled ass up the steps.
That had been exactly what I was afraid of.
"I...I'll be back," I stuttered.
Afraid to look around and see what the rest of my family thought, keeping my eyes down I got up to follow her. I jumped over Lucky, who'd been laying close by hoping he'd get treated to some table scraps, and ran up the stairs.
I could hear her crying before I open the door.
"Shit," I muttered to myself.
I could go in there and tell her nothing was going to change, but that wouldn't be true and she would know it.
We wouldn't sleep in each other's beds anymore. We wouldn't share our after school snack anymore. Mom said that when we were little we'd share everything we ate, and there was always a huge mess between our plates. No more Friday night horror movie marathons in the living room, eating the leftover pizza from dinner and betting who would die first. Loser cleaned up the mess we would inevitably make on the coffee table.
She was the first person I knew in this world, even before Mom. I knew she existed as soon as I knew that I did.
Before I knew it, I was crying too.
"You'll have your own room there you know," I said through the door.
"I wouldn't even look at places that didn't have a room for you."
"You couldn't even tell me you were looking?" was the response.
I finally grew the balls to open the door. When I looked at her, I saw my own tear streaked face staring back at me.
"I would have helped you looked. Didn't you want me there?" she asked from the floor next to her bed.
I entered her room, and sat against the wall by the door.
"Of course I did. There were tons of times I wished you were there, just to see what you thought about stuff. I didn't think you'd want to be involved."
"Of course I would...you ass hat," she said, rubbing her eyes with the heels of her hands.
"I just didn't wanna make you sad," I said tearfully. "That's why I didn't tell you sooner. I'm so sorry."
She laughed through her own tears.
"I mean, I knew it would happen eventually. It’s not like I had no idea you wanted to shack up before you got married. A heads up still would have been nice."
"I put it off because I just didn't want to hurt you!"
Now I was more upset than she was.
"Mollie, I only came up here because I didn't want everybody to see me crying. If you don't relax, the guys are gonna eat all the food. She-wolves gotta eat too, ya know!"
She was right. She'd be okay. I'd apparently underestimated her.
When we went back downstairs, I wasn't surprised at the first thing Dad said.
"You're finishing school, right?"
"Absolutely," Seth answered for me quickly.
"Of course," I said.
"On the rez?" he continued.
Mom rolled her eyes. She knew I wouldn't let Dad down.
"Of course," I repeated.
"Good," he said, looking satisfied.
He gave me a gentle smile. I don't think he' d manage to actually say the words, that he was fine with it, but I could tell he was.
"So, tell us about the place," Dad said.
Mom grinned as I told everybody about our little two bedroom house with hardwood floors, and a nice big yard.
That night Xandra and I slept in her bed, and I told her all about my plans for our place. It was going to be bright, colorful and fun just to be there. We were going to decorate before we moved in. We were keeping our move in date loose, we figured it would take us a week or two.
I asked X if she wanted to come with us in the morning to sign the lease. I wanted her to be the first to see the house. She seemed glad that I asked, but said she'd come by in the afternoon instead.
I never thought signing our names could be so exhilarating. I was trembling as we stood on our front stoop and watched our land lady drive away.
Seth' s hand reached up and caressed the back of my neck.
"Oh my gosh," I whispered. "It's ours."
"Are you as turned on as I am right now?" he asked.
"Fucking right I am."
About three and a half minutes later, I was bare assed on our kitchen counter with my legs tight around Seth' s waist. We were both doing our best to make sure this was the loudest sex we'd ever had.
He grabbed my knees and pushed my legs apart as far as they went. I screamed as he plunged into me even deeper, reaching up to hold on to the cabinet behind me. I let the rest of my body go limp.
"Do you even know how hot you look like that? Holy shit," he gasped.
"More," I begged. "Tell me more."
"Everyday. We can be together everyday. Can't wait...until our bed is here. Every morning, baby. And every night...Mollie...my Mollie."
His words made my stomach tighten, and I was on my way to Happy Town.
That afternoon while Seth was at the hardware store, Xandra and I stood in the kitchen staring at the two pathetic looking broken cabinet doors, that were now each hanging off just one hinge.
"So how many rooms did you break in today," she asked.
"Only two."
"Not my room though, right?"
"Of course not. Never in there," I said, lacing my fingers through hers. "Promise."
A/N: And another one flies out of the nest. Looking forward to seeing what you guys thought of this chapter! We’ll see more of Jake and Nessie soon. Even though it’s been a while, this was up next on the schedule and it seemed best to me that it be told by Mollie. The rest of AGU will probably have more chapters told by the short people than in the very begining, just because there’s so much going on in their lives now that they are older.
Still not back to regular updates, so I’m not sure when I’ll update again. Like I said before, the facebook page is the best way to keep in touch with me. I know not everybody has a FB page, but you can still look at it and see what’s going on. I still want to make a website for AGU and/or myself as a writer, but I want to make a good one instead of just slapping one together so it hasn’t happened yet. When it does, you’ll be the first to know!
So much love to you guys for being so supportive and patient. It means the world to me. Thanks for sticking around.
Til next time, like the sticker on the back of my car says, be safe! ;)
