A/N Yay! I’m back. Never fear, I have not abandoned this story, I’ve just been really busy what with going back to school and everything. But anyways, here it is…Chapter 4!
Disclaimer : I do not own anything related to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. That is the property of Roald Dahl/Warner Bros. I especially do not own Johnny Deep/Willy Wonka, if I did then I would be off indulging in my little fantasies instead of writing them down here ; )
Chapter 4
Once he came out of his daze, Willy was able to let his hair down (“Speaking of which, I think it’s almost time for another haircut.” he thought). He noticed that Annabelle and the Buckets’ got on as if they’d known each other for ever, but of course he’d never expected anything else. To the Buckets’, family was family, regardless of if you hadn’t seen each other in 16 years.
In fact, Willy was enjoying himself so much it wasn’t until Annabelle let out an enormous yawn that it was almost 2 O’clock in the morning.
“Oh dear, look at the time,” Mrs. Bucket tutted. “I suppose we’d all better get to bed. Come on Charlie, get up.”
Charlie mumbled from his place on the couch. “Mmmmh, go ‘way!”
Mr Bucket sighed. “Leave him there, there’s no point in making him track his way across the factory. Mr. Wonka, would you be able to show Annabelle her room?”
Willy’s mouth dropped open. He’d chatted to Annabelle during the evening of course, with the rest of the family there. But he wasn’t sure he’d be able to converse while they were walking *by themselves* to the living quarters.
He floundered for a moment before closing his mouth with a sharp *SNAP*
“Hehe, of course that’s not a problem, why would it be? Heh.” The Buckets’ stared a him. Willy cleared his throat, “Shall we go?” He waited for a few minutes until Annabelle had said her goodbyes to everyone and then, after wishing them goodnight, he led the way into the Chocolate Room.
Annabelle stared around the room, everything covered with a thin layer of icing sugar snow. She‘d seen it that day, but at night the whole place looked, *magical* “It’s so beautiful,” she murmured out loud, blushing when Willy turned to look at her.
“Thank- you,” he smiled, walking on. “Now tell me, have you ever rode in a Glass Elevator?”
Her eyes widened. “Not that I can recall. Maybe when I was little, but I’m not sure I’d remember…” She stared into space, thinking carefully.
Willy rolled his eyes. “It was a rhetorical question!” he huffed. He spun on his heel and continued to walk, only this time he held his cane out in front of himself. Annabelle tapped him on the shoulder. “Yes?” he asked.
“Mr. Wonka, Willy? Why are you walking with your stick thing, sorry, cane,” she corrected when he glared over his shoulder at her. “Why are you walking with it out in front of you?”
Looking back at her, he smiled and lowered the cane. “Not making the same mistake again!” With that he took a step forward, collided with the elevator and crumpled to the floor. Annabelle let out a giggle, which she quickly turned into a cough at Willy’s look, before giving him a hand up. They stood looking at each other for a minute before Willy broke the silence. “Well?”
“Well what?” she asked.
Willy looked to the heavens before sighing. “Aren’t you gonna get in?”

Once they were both safely (yeah right!) inside the elevator, Willy hit the button stickered “Rooms and stuff” and away they went. Willy noticed that Annabelle was determinedly not looking at him, choosing instead to look out the side of the elevator. He narrowed his eyes as he watched her reflection in the glass biting her lip. “Okay! You can laugh!”
Annabelle snorted before collapsing in a fit of laughter. “Just how many time has that happened to you?” she choked out.
“Well it varies, but at least 4 times a day.” He sniffed as Annabelle clutched her stomach and doubled over. “Charlie doesn’t act like this when it happens.”
“He probably does, you just don’t know!” she shot back. Willy made an indistinguishable noise in the back of his throat and turned away.
“Uh Willy, is this thing safe?” Now that she had gotten over the laughing incident, Annabelle had noticed that the elevator was zooming wildly all over the place.
“Of course it is. Know why? KNOW WHY?!”
“No.”
“Oh,” his face fell. “I was hoping you could tell me. Well, we’ll just have to take it for granted. Heh”
Annabelle chuckled, then yawned. “Are we nearly there yet?”
Willy pulled a lever and suddenly they were in a long corridor with Light blue walls and about two dozen white doors. “What are you talking about? We’ve been here for ages.” He smirked at the confusion on her face and walked out of the elevator, twirling his cane. “Hurry up little girl, I still have to show you your room!”
She marched up behind him. “I’m *not* a little girl! I’m sixteen, I’m practically a grown-up!”
He mimicked her voice, twisting it to make it sound babyish. “Ooooh, I’m practically a grown-up! Listen girlie-wurlie, if you have to tell people you’re *practically a grown-up*… you‘re not! K?!” He smiled sweetly.
Annabelle opened her mouth to retort, then closed it again with a perplexed look on her face. “How do you make me feel like this?” she asked.
Willy stiffened. “Feel like what?” he answered cautiously.
“I don’t know!” Annabelle sighed. “You make me feel happy, giddy, angry, all these different emotions, one after the other. Like, BAM! Before I even know what’s happening. In the space of the 5 minutes I’ve been alone with you, you’ve got me hurtling from one extreme to the next.” She looked him in the eyes before looking away again, embarrassed. “But, um, what do I know hey?” He continued to look at her with that intense violet stare. “So. You gonna show me to my room?” she laughed nervously.
Willy broke his gaze on her. “Oh, yeah that. It’s right down here.” He led her to a door 2 doors down from the top of the hallway. “My room’s right across the hall. Charlie’s is that one right at the very bottom, he picked his own room.” He looked at the carpet and scuffed the toe of his shoe. “When I heard you were coming I picked this room for you. But, I mean, if you don’t like it ,you can choose anyone you want.” With that, he pushed the door open.
Annabelle gasped. The room was the most beautiful she’d ever seen. The walls were a cream colour and in the middle of the room, facing the door, was a huge dark wood four-poster bed with chocolate and coffee coloured covers. The drapes that surrounded the bed were chocolate/coffee coloured voile, which were slightly translucent. Strewn on the bed were coffee, chocolate and cream silk throw pillows. Looking around the room, she could see a wardrobe, dresser and bureau that matched the bed.
She looked towards the window and squealed so loud Willy winced. The window was very wide and looking out, she could see the entire town spread out below. At the bottom of the window was a brown satin mattress, long enough for her to lie on and watch the out side world go by.
Her open-mouthed, awe-filled assessment of the room was interrupted by Willy clearing his throat. Annabelle spun to look at him. “Everything is to your satisfaction?” he asked.
“Oh, it’s perfect.” she breathed.
His eyes seemed to light up for a second, but when Annabelle looked again they were back to his normal vibrant violet. “I’m glad you like it.” He was whispering for some reason. Continuing in his normal tone he pointed to another door in the room. “Your bathroom.” Annabelle nodded. Then, without warning, she flung herself at him, wrapping her arms around his neck tightly.
“Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you so much! It’s wonderful.” Willy tensed for a moment, closing his eyes, before warily putting his hands around her waist to hug her back. Suddenly his eyes flew open. Goodness, what was that scent? Was that coming from her? He sniffed her hair lightly. Was that… yes, it was vanilla! Oh, by fudge, the aroma seemed to radiate from her, making his head spin, surrounding him. He sighed, it was intoxicating, he actually found himself wishing he could stay in this embrace with her forever. He sniffed her hair again, louder this time.
“Willy? Mr. Wonka? Are you okay?” He jumped away as though he’d been scalded.
“What?! Oh, yes, I’m fine. Just a little tired,” he faked a huge yawn and grinned. “Almost fell asleep on ya, didn’t I?” Curling his fingers into a fist, he reached out and lightly tapped her on the shoulder before pulling it back quickly.
Annabelle smiled. “Oh, well maybe you should go to bed.”
“I agree. Well, goodnight.”
“’Night…Willy.”
***************************************************************************
Willy talked to himself as he was getting changed for bed. “What am I doing? I can’t go around sniffing young girls, people might start to think I was weird!” He kicked off his shoes. “Oh, but she smelt so good…STOP IT WILLY” Hanging his overcoat on the door of his wardrobe, he got out of the rest of his clothes and climbed into bed.
He lay on his back staring at the canopy of his four-poster. No matter what he said to himself, he couldn’t stop thinking of *that* hug, of *her* scent. Groaning, he turned on his side and closed his eyes. “So I like how she smells,” he thought, “Wow! It doesn’t mean I’m attracted to her! Hahahaha…shit.” He turned to lie on his other side, on his stomach, finally ending up lying on his back again.
Willy glanced over at his wardrobe, his eyes resting on the dark shadow of his overcoat. Getting up, he made his way over to it, taking it off the hanger and going back to sit on his bed. Carefully, he lowered his nose to the soft, velvet fabric and inhaled. There it was, the lingering scent of vanilla. Sighing, he swung his legs into bed and got under the covers wrapping his arms around the garment as he drifted off to sleep.
