Summary: Lilly a witch saves a were-panther then finds she is the mate to his brother.

Author's note: When mind speaking it is denoted ‘dialogue’. This was my first story. This is based in the wonderful world that author Sherrilyn Kenyon has created.

Chapter 4

Lilly woke to the feel of fur against her skin. Opening her eyes, she found herself curled up next to a very large cat. Remembering what happened the night before, she looked at the panther and knew it was Lucan. Very gently she caressed his muzzle and dragged her fingers thru his fur.
Lucan was in heaven. Waking up next to Lilly and having her scratching him behind his ear. Purring, Lucan opened his eyes to look at her.
Lilly gasped, one moment she was petting fur and the next she was touching Lucan’s chest.
“Sorry. I hope you weren’t upset waking up next to a panther.”
Smiling, Lilly sat up, “No, it’s okay. Thank you for last nights.”
“Your welcome. Come, after you get dressed we can go get breakfast and then check in with Rian.”
“Okay.”
With that Lilly went and took a shower. The whole time Lilly tried not to think of how great it felt waking up with someone next to her. She had to keep reminding herself that it was just this once and probably wouldn’t happen again. Who would want a witch who brought danger into their life?
After she was ready Lucan led her out of the room. On their way to the kitchen Lilly stared in awe at the house and asked “How big is this house?”
“This house has ten full bed chambers and many other rooms including a library, music room, game room, etc.. We own over a hundred acres here in the Cascades. We have many homes, but this is the largest. Believe me, this beats the hell out of living in caves.”
“A cave? Just how old are you?” she asked, arching her brow at him.
“I am just over four hundred. Rian is about a century older than I.”
Stopping, Lilly just gaped at him. Finally finding her voice she asked “Are you an immortal?”
Lucan smiled and shook his head, “No, I won’t live forever. Our lives span to about a thousand years. After hitting puberty, are bodies age slowly.”
Continuing on their way, Lilly just couldn’t believe it. Walking passed a window, she looked out and saw panther cubs playing and adult males watching them. Lilly noticed that there weren’t many women around. Actually, outside of Sela, she had only seen two other adult females.
“Lucan, I was just wondering why I don’t see many women around.”
“Once our females become in season, they leave the pack in search of mates. They then travel together in groups. Mated females return to their mates when they come into heat. Should they become pregnant, they have their cubs with their female packs and once they are weaned, they bring them to their mates to raise.”
Stopping once more to look at him she asked “You mean the mothers don’t raise their own children?”
“That is the nature of a pantheress,” Lucan said.
Lilly shook her head and said, “I could never give my child to someone else to raise. What about Sela?”
“She is Arcadian. She was born with a human heart. Rian is Katagaria, as I am, we were born with an animal heart.”
By then they had reached the kitchen.
Lucan walked over to a huge refrigerator, opening it he asked, “So, what will you have. We have most anything you could think of.”
“Waffles with strawberries and cream?”
“Sounds delicious. Just sit down and I will make it,” he said as he started taking out some strawberries and the other things he would need.
“I could help,” Lilly asked as she sat down onto a stool at the kitchen island.
“Okay,” Lucan said over his shoulder.
Lilly found that Lucan had a great sense of humor. They joked and laughed while making breakfast. Lilly could get used to having Lucan around. She found she liked him more and more and it scared her to death. She just couldn’t let herself get too attached. After eating breakfast, they made their way to Rian’s chamber.
“Good morning Rian, Sela,” Lilly said as she walked over to take a look at Rian.
“Good morning Lilly. I would like to introduce you to my children,” Sela said pointing over to the corner of the room where three cubs were sleeping practically on top of one another.
“Micah, Nisa, and Lucan,” Sela said while caressing Rian’s head.
Lilly smiled and said, “They are adorable.”
“Don’t let them fool you. They may look like angels now, but you just wait until they are awake. You will soon find yourself on the floor with them crawling all over you,” Lucan said, crossing his arms over his chest.
“Lucan, I seem to recall you rolling on the floor with them more from your own choosing than theirs,” Sela chuckled.
Lucan changed the subject and said, “Rian, we need to go over what we are going to do.”
With that, they discussed their options with dealing with the men who were after Rian. They decided some recon was the first thing they must do.
“We must get all of the records and blood samples,” Lucan said.
“I have some at my house. I am sure Edward took all of the ones at the lab. He wouldn’t want anyone else to see them,” Lilly said with a worried frown.
Lucan agreed and said, “Yes. We can adjust memories, but we must see haw many have been brought into this. We don’t want to leave any loose ends.”
Lucan would rather not leave a bloody trail behind. He didn’t want Lilly’s life to be anymore affected than it already was, “I will take a tessera out and do some recon. Lilly, you must stay here with Rian and Sela. I will hopefully return by this afternoon,” and with that, he flashed out of the room.
After gathering a few panthers, Lucan led them to Lilly’s house. They found that the men had managed to get past the security and had made a mess of Lilly’s home. After knocking out the two guards that were left behind, Lucan and the others gathered all of the evidence of Rian’s identity and left. Lucan then cased the lab and instructed a couple of men to follow Edward and watch him. After that, Lucan flashed himself back to Rian’s chamber and found Lilly on the floor rolling around with the cubs. Arching his brow he said, “I told you so.”
Lilly said laughing, “But they are so cute.”
While he was filling them in on what he found out so far, Lilly’s cell phone rang. Looking at the caller id she said, “It is Edward.”
Lucan said, “Come out into the hall and answer it,” and motioned her out to the hallway.
Following Lucan out of the room, she answered, “Hello?”
“Lilly, where are you! How did you get out of your house with that cat? He flashed you somewhere, didn’t he.”
“Edward, I don’t know what you are talking about and I don’t appreciated you harassing me. I have a secret way off my property that you will never find. Now just leave me alone. I am going to release the panther if he even survives. He is really sick. I won’t ever tell you where. You are crazy to think it is anything other than a normal panther,” she said sarcastically.
“Lilly, I have men here that seen what that creature can do. If you don’t hand him over you will regret it. I will report that you stole him from the lab, even if I have to say he is highly contagious with some disease. I do have his blood tests. You will be hunted and will go to jail.”
“Edward, you wouldn’t dare. I will have you locked up in the Looney bin and have them throw away the key,” she said the hung up. Lilly was so angry her eyes were glowing green fire and she so wanted to hit something, namely Edward.
“Lilly, it is going to be okay. We will figure how to make this all go away.”
Shaking her head, Lilly said, “No Lucan, I have a feeling I am going to have to move once again. That is my life, always running from something.”
She looked so sad. Putting his arm around her, he said, “You can stay here as long as you want.”
“Thank you,” she whispered.
After filling Rian in with what Edward said, Lucan left Lilly again to check in with the tessera. Lucan hadn’t been gone fifteen minutes when Lilly suddenly got a bad feeling. Looking at Rian, Lilly gasped, “Lucan!”
‘Lilly, what’s wrong?’ Rian asked. Just moments before, Lilly had been playing with his children. Now she was standing as still as a statue. He couldn’t even tell if she was breathing. Her eye were glowing and she wasn’t focused on anything around her.
‘Lucan?’
Lucan’s day was fast turning to crap. Shortly after he regrouped with the tessera they were attacked by Katagaria Slayers.
‘Brother, I am a little busy right now.’
Dodging his opponents attack he swung around and scored a strike against his side. That was when he felt something take over him. At first he struggled but then realized it was Lilly. Somehow she was merging her mind with his and he didn’t know where one ended and the other began. Everything seemed in slow motion to Lucan. It was like he was watching from a distance. The panther was coming back, suddenly he lunged but before he was able to touch Lucan, he was thrown by some unseen force and he hit a nearby tree and crumbled to the ground, not moving. Suddenly Lucan felt teeth sinking into hi shoulder and he was whipped around, throwing the panther off him. As the other one, he was thrown away from Lucan. The other slayers, not knowing what was happening, decided that they had better gather their wounded and leave. Slowly, Lucan felt Lilly withdraw. Once she had, he told Phillip to take care of the wounded and he flashed himself to Rian’s chamber.
Lilly didn’t know what came over her. All she knew was that Lucan was in danger and she had to protect him. Seizing control of him she saw and felt everything he did. When the panther attacked Lucan she used her powers and flung him away from Lucan. When she felt Lucan being ripped into, she whirled him around and threw the other panther away from him. When she knew that he was no longer in danger, she withdrew slowly. She was so weak. The next thing she knew she was back in her own body, seeing a panther appear in front of her who then turned into Lucan, then everything went black.
Lucan just transformed back to human when he had to catch Lilly before she hit the floor. Swinging her up into his arms he looked down at her. She was pale and cold to the touch.
“Rian, I am taking her to my chamber. I will let you know when she wakes,” with that he flashed them to his chamber and laid her on the bed. Covering her with blankets he started a fire with a thought in the fireplace.
Taking her hand he whispered, “Lilly. Lilly wake up baby,” and she still didn’t move. Checking her pulse he felt her thready pulse and noticed her breathing was shallow, but her body was slowly warming up.
Lilly slowly awoke. She felt so cold and tired, never had she used that much energy before. Noticing that someone was holding her hand, she opened her eyes and gasped, “Lucan! You are okay.”

Lucan smiled, “Yes, thanks to you,” he said. Brushing the hair off her face, he thought he had never seen anyone more beautiful than she.
“I didn’t hurt you, did I?”
“It was uncomfortable at first until I accepted you. Lilly, why did you do that. Look at you, you endangered yourself. I won’t have it,” he said frowning down at her.
“I couldn’t let anything happen to you,” Lilly said as she looked down at his chest and that was when she noticed the blood. Sitting up quickly, the room started spinning.
Grasping her by the arms to hold her still he asked, “Oh, and what do you think you are doing my little witch?”
“I am going to see to your wounds. Don’t fight me. I may be weak but I still have enough energy to pin you down why I dress your wounds,” she demanded.
Seeing the resolve in her eyes and not wanting her anymore tired than she was he agreed, “Okay, but you will tell me what you need and I will retrieve the items.”
