Chapter 4
Three days later, Mia found herself back at the club where she had met Darius. After he took her home she spent the rest of the night crying and most of Sunday. By Monday she was exhausted and sad. She came into work and by the afternoon she canceled her last two lessons and went home, which she had never done before. By Tuesday morning she was frustrated, angry with life. How come she was destined to be hurt, have people taken from her, first her mother then Darius. On top of it all, she couldn’t even be that angry over Darius because what he did, dedicating his life in helping others was such a noble thing. How many times had he saved other children’s mothers?
When she came into work on Tuesday she was ready to fight. During one of her classes she had Brian and her spar to demonstrate to the students. Brian was shocked at Mia, how aggressive she came at him. Finally Mia ended up knocking him down, holding him down with her foot at his throat. Brian looked up at her. She was breathing hard and he had never seen such an angry look on her face before. “Mia?”
Mia realized what she was doing and moved away from Brian. “I’m sorry. Are you okay?” Mia asked as she reached down and helped Brian to his feet.
Brian rubbed his throat and said, “I’m fine, but are you? Mia you haven’t been yourself these last few days.”
Mia sighed, “I’m fine. Do you think you could take care of the rest of the class? I think I will go home.”
“Of course, you just take care of whatever you need to,” Brian said with a nod.
After Mia went home and took a shower, she thought of what she was going to do. She knew one thing, she couldn’t continue like this. Then suddenly she knew what she needed to do to channel her rage. That was how she found herself here at the club. About an hour after she arrived at the club she spotted them. Three daimons, but this time there was a female amongst them. She watched them while she felt for her dagger that she had strapped to her forearm under her sleeve.
The daimons were watching the crowd, seeking their prey. Taking a deep breath and gathering her courage Mia made her way thru the crowd towards them. Pretending to be reading a text message on her cell phone, she bumped into one of the male daimons. “Oh, excuse me. I’m so sorry,” she said, trying to act flirty. If not for her martial arts training Mia wouldn’t have been able to control her heart beat. In fact it only seemed uncontrollable around Darius.
The daimon grabbed her elbow and said, “My fault. What is such a beautiful woman doing all by herself?”
“My asshole boyfriend stood me up again. So I’ve decided to find a better club that’s more hoppin’ so I can forget him,” Mia lied.
“Well, we were actually going to a great place that is known for its outrageous parties. Care to join us?” he asked, his voice belying his malicious intent.
Mia could feel them trying to mentally push her into agreeing but for some reason she wasn’t enthralled by their compulsion. Acting like she was, she agreed and made her way with them out of the club. They made their way around the corner to the side of the club and when she was sure they were alone, Mia acted like she stumbled. While one of the male daimons caught her, she reached for her dagger. “I am so clumsy,” she said, shaking her head, and then stabbed the daimon.
She whirled around while the dust settled and the remaining two daimons paused, not believing what just happened. “Come you soul sucking daimons, let’s dance,” Mia taunted.
“You BITCH! You’ll regret that,” the female daimon hissed.
“Ooh, I’m so scared,” Mia laughed.
That caused the daimons to attack. Mia managed to cut the male on his shoulder and swung around to face the female. Mia jumped and kicked the female down to the ground. Dropping to one knee, Mia brought her knife down and pierced the daimon’s chest, and then rolled to avoid the last daimon’s attack.
The daimon growled in anger and came at Mia, which caused him to be reckless. Mia grabbed his arm that he flung out to hit her and pulled him around, stabbing him between his shoulder blades.
Mia stood there nearly a minute in a fighting stance as she watched the wind blow the dust away. Making her way to her car, she got in and started to shake uncontrollably. She let loose her control and the adrenaline coursed thru her, making her heart race. She quickly made her way home and locked herself in, trying to convince herself that she was never going to do that again, but knew she would. Fighting the daimons had given her a purpose, and she felt in doing so, she may just be able to help Darius with this one thing.

The next two nights Mia went to two different clubs, not wanting to run into Darius. She knew he would be furious with her and try to stop her. Plus it would just hurt her to see him and not be able to touch him. She managed to come away from the fights without a scratch. For the most part the surprise of her attack gave her a much needed advantage.
Now it was Friday night and Mia was back at the original club. She had tried one earlier but gave up after nearly two hours. She just made it to the bar when she saw four daimons talking to three women. Mia watched them and noted one daimon in particular seemed different than those she fought before. He constantly scanned the crowd and she could sense his lethal power. Mia knew she couldn’t let the women get hurt but was a little uncertain about fighting four daimons, especially the stronger one.
Once they started out of the club Mia followed at a discreet distance. As they made it around the corner Mia hurried up to catch them. “Do any of you have the time?” Mia asked, while catching up to them.
One of the women, a petite brunette, said, “It is 11:30p.m.”
Mia proceeded to search her purse pretending to find something. “I swear I am going to kick my prick of a boyfriend’s ass. He stood me up again. He’s probably off screwing his secretary,” Mia said while dropping her purse on the ground. “Oh crap,” she said while crouching down to pick up her things that fell out of her purse.
Mia had to think fast. She knew that she needed to get the women to run because they could be used against her. Looking out of the corner of her eye she saw that only one of the daimons were close enough to the women to be able to grab them. Deciding to take out that daimon and the one next to her she prepared to unsheathe her two daggers.
“You could party with us,” said the daimon that was leaning over her.
“You know I am quite selfish. I think I want you all to myself,” Mia said right before she leaped up, flicking her wrist she let one dagger fly and at the same time drove the other into the daimon next to her. While the dust settled Mia prepared herself for the other two and yelled, “Run girls.”
The women just stood there. Two stared at the place where the daimons had been and another stared at Mia. It took another yell for them to finally take off running towards the front of the club. Mia knew that they would be having company soon so she needed to take care of them quick.
“You bitch! What are you? I know you aren’t a Dark Hunter,” growled the lesser daimon.
“You know I am getting really tired of you daimons calling me a bitch. And lets just say I am a pissed off daughter,” Mia laughed, trying to piss them off more.
Beckoning them with one of her hands she taunted, “Come on what are you waiting for? Are you scared of a girl?” she sneered and that made the lesser daimon charge her. Mia, at the last second, moved and turned around him and stabbed him between his shoulder blades. That was what the other daimon had been waiting for. Out of the corner of her eye Mia saw the blow but couldn’t get out of the way. She found herself on the ground. Before she was able to roll away she was pulled up by a hand in her hair.
The daimon pulled her back against him and put his hand around her throat. “You aren’t so cocky now are you bitch?” he growled in her ear.
Mia struggled which caused him to tighten his grip on her throat. “You are strong. Your soul should keep me going for quite a while,” he laughed.
Mia let doubt enter her mind for only a brief second before she calmed herself and she knew that she would make it out of this but hoped she wouldn’t be too badly hurt. Mia started sobbing while she carefully reached into her belt at her waist, drawing out the blade she had hidden there, “Please don’t kill me. I don’t want to die.”
“What’s this? You really are a coward like all the other humans. You really disappoint me.”
Mia sank her blade into his upper thigh, causing him to hiss in pain. He swung her around and back handed her across the face. Mia let the force of the blow to swirl her around and out of his reach.
“Now I am going to kill you slow and painful,” growled the daimon as he jumped at her.
Mia only had a split second to leap out of the way. Knowing that she couldn’t let him get near her she threw the blade and watched the daimon’s eyes widen in shock just before he exploded.
Mia stumbled to the ground trying to catch her breath. Her throat hurt just to swallow and blood dripped from her chin from the cut on her right cheek. Not even a minute later she heard people running her way so she quickly gathered her weapons and stuffed them in her purse just in time.
“They are over here,” yelled one of the women.
Mia started for her car as the three women came with four bouncers from the club. “Where are they? Hey are you okay?” one of the bouncers asked Mia while he ran up to her.
“Yeah,” Mia managed to say with a hoarse voice, “They took off. I just want to go home.”
Trent recognized her from last weekend. She had been with Darius. When the women came in and after hearing their story he knew they were daimons. He had thought that the women must have been saved by a Dark Huntress but was shocked when he realized it hadn’t been. Knowing that there was no reason to call the cops he convinced his buddies to just let her leave.
After he watched her pull out of the parking lot he pulled out his cell phone. “Hey Darius, Trent here. I think you had better go to your friend’s house, you know, the one from last weekend. She just had a run in with some daimons.”
