*sigh* No reviews? Not even a teensy, little one? Oh, well.
May I ask a favor? If anyone reading is really interested in this and wants to see where I'm going, will you please review and let me know? If me pointing out the reviewers for each chapter is discouraging to you, as you would rather remain anonymous, just tell me and I won't point you out. Still, I'd really appreciate your opinions, no matter what they are. I'm good with criticism.
If it's short chapters that are discouraging, then I apologize. I'll try to update more often.
Okay, now that that's off my chest, on with the story. (I don't mean to guilt-trip anyone, if that's what this appears to be. Just a plea from a discouraged author.)
Warning: This is a slash story, aka M/M, also known as male/male. I think I've put up plenty of warnings, but here's another one. :)
I didn’t see Jasper the next day in homeroom, so I assumed he was just running late. Unfortunately for me, the angry blonde from the day before was in the same homeroom. I had failed to notice that the day before.
“Listen here, Why-taker—” she began.
“It’s Whitaker,” I corrected.
“I don’t care. I saw how you were fawning over Jasper yesterday—”
“What are you talking about? And I don’t fawn!”
“—and you’d best back off unless you want it blabbed over the school that you’re a fairy.”
“Do you see any sparkling pixie dust on me?” She seemed confused, but shook her head anyway. “Do I have any wings?” She shook her head again. “Then, with the evidence you’ve just seen, or rather, not seen, it can be proved that I am not a fairy. I was not, nor will I ever be, interested in Jasper Hale, or any other man for that matter,” I lied to her face. She just smirked.
“Good, but I think he heard you.” I followed her gaze and saw Jasper standing by his desk, a shell-shocked look on his face. Before I could apologize and tell him I didn’t mean it, he had turned and bolted from the classroom. I hung my head in shame. I heard a snicker from behind me. “Looks like he didn’t like what he heard.” I spun on the blonde girl behind me.
“You.” She froze when I pointed my finger at her. “What enjoyment did you get from that? You, who is probably one of the easiest girls here, made me hurt or scare away my first friend here.” Her face clouded with anger. “Just because you don’t have a chance with him, doesn’t mean you can make a claim and try to scare anyone you think is too close to him. So, missy, I think it is you who needs to back off.” Her mouth dropped open in a big ‘o’. I turned around and ignored her, still ashamed of myself for hurting Jasper. Geez, I’ve only known the guy a day and I’ve probably already alienated him.
When I walked into my next class, it was to an angry Edward. I was actually kind of scared when I sat down.
“What did you do to Jasper?” he growled quietly before my cheeks had even hit the seat.
“I didn’t do anything,” I defended myself. “I was backed into a corner by that freaking blonde who’s in our homeroom and Spanish class. I don’t know her name.”
“What happened?” Bella asked, trying to get Edward to calm down.
“Without going into all the details, she basically told me not to get any fairy dust on Jasper or the entire school would know what I am. I had to tell her I wasn’t interested in Jasper for her to leave me alone.” I looked down at my desk. “I didn’t know he was standing beside me when I said it.”
“Well, now he’s run off,” Edward said before Bella could stop him. My head shot up.
“Do what now?”
“He ran off after he heard what you said.”
“Crap,” I muttered. “I was backed into a corner! I don’t want the whole school knowing about me. I’ve already dealt with stuff like that, and I’d rather not go through it again.”
“I understand,” Bella said.
“I didn’t get a chance to apologize before he ran from the room.” I sighed. “I’ve known him for one day, and I’ve already ruined my chances, haven’t I?”
“I wouldn’t say that.”
“I would.”
“You didn’t do it on purpose?” Edward asked.
“Heck, no!” He visibly relaxed. “…He seemed to be interested in me. Why would I mess that up intentionally?”
“We’ll find him,” he said, calmed for now.
Jasper wasn’t at school for the rest of the week. I was worried, but Bella reassured me he was fine. He came home on Thursday, but still didn’t come to school on Friday. The blonde, whose name I learned was Lynn Grantham, blamed me for his disappearance. She was hateful and rude to me all week. I dealt with it because, honestly, it was my fault he left.
By Friday’s class with Edward and Bella, I had had it.
“Edward, may I ask a favor?” I hesitantly questioned.
“Depends,” he said. “What is it?”
“I know it’s rude to invite myself, but may I come to your house to explain to Jasper what happened?” He hesitated and Bella elbowed him in the ribs. She winced, but said nothing.
“Don’t hurt yourself,” he murmured. To me, he said, “I can take you, but he may not see you.”
“I can understand if he doesn’t, but I want to try.”
Tsk, tsk, Whitaker. Always check your surroundings before saying something potentially damning.
Please review! Remember, I like criticism, too.
