The afternoon sun shone on Tara’s face as she woke up from a peaceful nap on the couch.
Pam was wrapped around her like burrito, her face buried in her hair. She smiled, turning to face the voluptuous blond that somehow had caught her heart. She sighed in pleasure; they’d fallen asleep after making love right after getting to Pam’s place from school. It was tremendous.
“Tara, you’re looking absolutely delicious this morning.” Pam says, running her hand down her back. Tara giggles in return.
“Funny…I was just bout’ to say the thing about you.” Pam has a devilish smirk on her face. She hadn’t felt this happy since her bastard father died. Tara grinned, then frowned; looking at the time on the clock. She was going to be late meeting Sookie.
“What’s the matter, Tara?” She asked, concerned while caressing her back. Tara sighs.
“I’m gonna be late. I have to go meet Sookie. You know how I feel about our relationship getting out, Pam. I don’t even want Sookie to know.” She replied as she was getting dressed. Tara sighs with frustration. It wasn’t easy keeping this kind of secret from her own best friend. It was killing her everyday not being to share her happiness with Sookie.
“You care too much about what people think, Tara. I mean, really? Sookie is your best friend. She above all would be happy that you found someone that makes you happy. You’ve always told me so.” Pam says as she watches Tara get dressed.
“I know but…” she trails off, not finishing what she was going to say. “Never mind. I’ll see you later, okay?” She rushes out the door without another word, leaving Pam herself feeling frustrated.
It was pretty clear Pam was head over heels in love with Tara. It happened out of nowhere and sprang on her when she least expected it. But she wouldn’t have it any other way. She had been trying for some time to convince Tara to come out about their relationship, but she was terrified of everyone in their class giving them a hard time about it.
Pam understood that, she really did, but she didn’t care in the slightest what they thought of her. Tara however, did…so she had to follow her lead.
She does love her after all…She’s willing to do anything for her as long as it makes her happy. But does this make her happy?
Tara smiled as she sat in the passenger seat of Sookie’s car, remembering that afternoon. Tara made a lot of mistakes in her lifetime, but her biggest one was letting Pam go all those years ago. What was she thinking letting fears and insecurities dictate who she wanted to be with? It was the biggest mistake of her life.
She was afraid to go that party knowing who was going to be there. Pam hadn’t forgiven her for breaking up with her, and she didn’t blame her either.
She was terrified of seeing her again.
Sookie drove her crappy yellow car on their way to Shreveport. Once she hit the highway, they got stuck in traffic. Which Sookie was thankful for, because she was lost in her own thoughts about what to expect at this party. She already knew Nora was going to be there. Hopefully the past 6 years have matured and mellowed her some. Yet, something told her that would not be the case. Sookie was even more nervous about seeing Eric again. She had a feeling about this party; it wasn’t good or bad, just something that was nagging away at her.
It took a while, but they finally made it to their hotel. They almost didn’t make it. Sookie stopped in a parking space, turning the car off. She turned her attention to her best friend who was quiet the entire ride here. She had a frown on her face. “Everything okay, Tara?” She shook her head, her thoughts interrupted.
“Huh?”
“I said is everything okay? You’ve been quiet the entire ride here.” Tara blows a puff of air, feeling tense.
“I-It’s nothing Sook. I’m fine.” Her voice was quiet, small even. Sookie raised an eyebrow, concerned by Tara’s mood. She knew better than to bother her when she was like this, but she had to get this out.
“This wouldn’t happen to have anything to do with Pam and the party, would it?” Sookie asked. Tara looked at her in shock. She schools her features, then scoffs.
“What the fuck you talking bout’, Sook?!” She yells, giving her a glare. Sookie sighs, getting ready for the Tara tornado.
“I know you were in a secret relationship with Pam, Tara. I know.” Sookie gave a sympathetic look to her best friend. She was hurt she found out on her own, feeling suspicious when she kept disappearing and lying to her. Tara glared at her, ready to scream, yell and tell her she was wrong…but she couldn’t, not to Sookie. She should have known better than to think Sookie wouldn’t get suspicious.
“How did you find out?” Sookie smiled sheepishly.
“I had some suspicion for a while, but Lafayette confirmed it when he told me accidentally. He assumed I already knew. Please don’t be mad at him.” She pleaded. Tara rolls her eyes.
“I’m gonna kill that bitch!” Tara yelled.
“Tara!” Tara calmed down, sighing.
“Fine, whatever.” She rolled her eyes. Sookie let out a sigh of relief. “Let’s just get this fucking shit over with.”
“Tara, everything will be okay. Do you trust me?”
“Of course, I trust you, Sook. It’s them I don’t trust.”
“As long as we stick together then nothing should go wrong.” They hugged each other, then exited the car. “We’ll check into our hotel, go to the party and then continue onto Houston.”
“Whatever.” Tara mumbled.
Little did the ladies know that this night was just the beginning of the drama that was begging to unfold.
