Ok. Well...I had time to write this, and even though the last chapter hasn't gotten any reviews, I decided to go ahead and post, as the next chapter is again a possible unknown delay.
Oh! I forgot to say thank y'all so much for giving me over 100 reviews! I've never had that many on anything before. :D
Charlie quietly took notes as I recounted my story. I don’t know why, but I told him everything. When I got to the fire, he stopped me and radioed the station, getting someone to look up some information on it.
Jasper had appeared at my side sometime during the telling. He was comfortingly rubbing my back, silently letting me know he was there. Mike stood off to the side, unsure of what to do.
“Chief,” a voice crackled over the radio.
“Yeah?”
“I got that info you wanted. The report said the fire was arson, but they never caught the arsonist.”
“Do they know who it was?”
“A James T…Perkins. He was fired for unknown reasons from a school in Oregon.”
“I think we just arrested the arsonist.”
Rage boiled inside of me, bubbling under my skin and turning the world around me red.
“Whitaker?” Jasper asked, worry hitting me like a wall. I didn’t hear him, nor did his worry stop me from walking out the door.
I didn’t pay attention to them running after me. I was focused solely on the handcuffed man standing beside the squad car; the man who had molested me and killed my parents; the man who had obviously been following me everywhere I went.
Someone grabbed me from behind, not allowing me any closer to the man I was ready to kill.
“No!” I screamed. “Let me go!”
“No,” the person behind me stated firmly.
“He killed my parents! He doesn’t deserve to live.”
“I know.” I struggled against the hold on my arms, but when I made no leeway, I realized it was Jasper behind me.
“No, you don’t. My parents were good people and that bastard burned them to death!” I began to growl at an octave imperceptible to the human ear. “He shouldn’t be allowed to take another breath. What did my parents ever do to you?” I spat.
“They took you away from me,” Perkins said simply. I renewed my struggles against Jasper, a low vicious growl erupting from my throat, and suddenly found myself facedown on the pavement with my arms held tightly behind me and a knee in my lower back.
“Stop trying to get away, Whitaker,” Jasper whispered.
I vaguely thought about fighting back, but I quickly dismissed the idea. I didn’t have anything near Jasper’s experience. So, I let my body go limp, but he didn’t relax his hold on me.
“Charlie, you might want to get him out of here before Whitaker escapes and kills him.” He paused for barely a moment. “On second thought, get him out of here before I kill him. We’ll take Mike home.” I couldn’t see what was going on, but I heard the slam of car doors and the cruiser drive away. Jasper released my arms and stood up, but I didn’t move. Someone knelt by my head and brushed my hair back from my forehead. The hand was a warm fire to my skin.
I opened my eyes and looked into Mike’s blue ones. They were red-rimmed from his tears.
“I’m sorry,” he whispered. Another tear slithered down his cheek. I closed my eyes to block out his pity.
It was hopeless. Closing my eyes only brought up an image of Perkins’ self-satisfied smirk. My shoulders shook as dry sobs surfaced, for my inability to avenge my parents and for the innecessity of their deaths.
Two pairs of hands helped me up and I was pressed against a large body.
“I didn’t mean…”
“It’s not you, Mike. It’s just…”
“His parents.”
Jasper nodded against my hair.
I felt a hot hand settle on my back. “What can I do?”
“We need to get him home. I’ll take you by your house.”
“I want to help.” I could feel Jasper’s confusion. “I need to do something. Please.”
“All right. Will you sit in the backseat with him?”
The hot hand moved away from my body and Jasper leaned close to my ear.
“Are you ready to go home?” he asked quietly. My body sagged against him in defeat.
There was nothing I could do.
I was lifted into Jasper’s arms and set in the backseat. Mike wrapped an arm around my shoulders and let me lean into him. I finally opened my eyes and met Jasper’s gaze in the rearview mirror. He was staring at me worriedly.
I felt Mike place a tentative kiss on the crown of my head. Jasper averted his eyes back to the road, a spark of jealousy and surprised curiosity flashing through the…bond we shared.
The car stopped and Jasper carried me into the house. I didn’t even try to protest. He laid me on the bed and brushed his hand through my hair, a sad look in his eyes. I looked away, resentment rising.
“Is there anything I can do?” Mike asked.
“Not yet,” Jasper replied.
“I’ll wait in the living room.” Mike shuffled from the room and Jasper sat on the edge of the bed.
“I’m sorry, love. I couldn’t let you do anything. I know you wanted to, and I’m sorry.”
I didn’t answer, choosing to act like a child instead and cross my arms over my chest.
“Don’t do this, love.”
“He killed my parents!” I snapped, finally looking at him.
His gaze didn’t waver. “I know.”
“What am I supposed to do?”
“Forgive and forget.”
“How in the hell am I supposed to do that?” I spat, sitting up to eye level.
“Patience and perseverance.”
I snorted. “You’re kidding, right?”
He shook his head. “It’s the only way to keep the rage and resentment from eating away at you.”
I faced the wall, refusing to concede his rationality.
“Come on, love. You know how it will eat at you, how it already has.”
I ignored his almost-question. “What am I forgetting? What happened January?”
“You don’t remember?” He stared deep into my eyes.
I shook my head.
“I’ll tell you if you promise to at least try to forgive and forget.”
I sighed. “Fine.”
“I can be happy with that.” He took a deep breath. “It was before school started back. You…um…you went down on me and I-I couldn’t help it… I wrapped my hand in your hair, pushed you, and you… You flipped out. It was worse than the one you remember. That may be why you can’t remember.”
“That’s why you never…”
“I never tried it again. That’s also why I was so distant.”
“Because you were afraid to do anything to set me off?”
He nodded.
I closed my eyes. I could remember the fear, the possibility of reliving my nightmare, the utter terror. I shivered and opened my eyes.
Jasper caressed my cheek and leaned forward, capturing my lips in a gentle and chaste kiss, but I didn’t let it stay that way for long. He groaned when I pulled him to lay against me.
“Mike is in the living room,” he murmured.
“I can be quiet,” I replied.
“You’re going to be the death of me.”
I laughed quietly. “Think twice about that statement.” He joined me in quiet laughter, but I stopped him with another kiss. We divested each other of our shirts.
“Let me make you feel good, love,” he whispered against my lips, popping the button on my jeans. I only kissed him harder and arched against him.
The rest of my clothes were suddenly gone and Jasper was in his boxers. He kissed me again and slid down my body. My knees were bent, my feet flat against the bed, and Jasper settled between them. I gripped the sheets tightly as he began to stroke and kiss me; I had to bite my lip to keep from moaning.
“Hey, Jasper, is there—” Mike froze in the doorway. Jasper glanced up at me, but didn’t pause in his slow ministrations. I could almost taste the increase in Mike’s blood as he blushed. I covertly glanced his way; I quit biting my lip and let my moans rip the air. Mike shifted in obvious discomfort, but he didn’t leave. To tease him, I shifted my left leg so it was lying flat on the bed, giving Mike a perfect view of what Jasper was doing to me. Mike’s breathing hitched and he stared unashamedly at my lap. I turned my head and caught Mike’s heavily dilated eye; he blushed a deeper shade of red at being caught.
“Enjoying the view?” I rasped. Jasper looked up at me and increased his suction. I arched my back in surprise and a small moan escaped my lips.
Mike didn’t move.
“You didn’t answer my question, Mike.”
“I’m sorry. The door was open, and—” he stuttered.
“I know the door was open. That’s not what I asked.” He gulped, but nodded, though I could see from the tell-tale bulge in his pants that he liked it.
I could feel the tightening in my abdomen. Jasper sensed it, so he took me deep and hummed.
Mike whimpered; he was staring at Jasper. I followed his gaze and moaned loudly. Jasper was stroking himself while he brought me to climax. The tension in my lower abdomen spread and I cried out as my orgasm washed over me.
When I could, I sat up and kissed Jasper. He growled at me when I stopped his hand. I leaned close to his ear as I slid my hands into the back of his boxers.
I spoke quickly and quietly, “We need to do something to replace his bad memories, treasure. I wish I had someone back then to help me. It might have been easier.” Jasper only kissed my temple and slipped out of his boxers. “You’re wearing too many clothes to be in here,” I said to Mike. He looked at the floor, blushing, and turned towards the door.
“That didn’t mean leave,” Jasper stated.
Hmm... The next chapter is going to be interesting to write...
Anyway, review and let me know what you're thinking. :) Oh, and if you have any criticism, I'd welcome it. :)
