In the morning, Wendy awoke to the unfamiliar sound of Smee humming happily as he set a tray of food down upon the desk in the corner. "Slept late now did we? Up with you now, breakfast time." Wendy rubbed her eyes, and simultaneously decided that this man was too happy to be a pirate. The older man continued, "Hook had me bring in several dresses for you this morning. Some of them should fit you hopefully. We want you to feel right at home here." He grinned happily.
"This is not and never will be my home!" Wendy shouted, climbing out of bed and beginning to pace. Smee looked somewhat hurt. "I'm sorry Miss Wendy, twas a figure of speech it were. I didnt mean..." He trailed off, embarrassed. Wendy turned to face him, and suddenly felt a rush of guilt. "It’s not your fault that your captain's a tyrant, I am just frustrated." She softened. "Tis understandable Miss. I am just trying to help you feel better about the situation." Wendy could not help but smile at him, and realized that her stay would be more pleasant if she made some friends. “Thank you Mr. Smee. It’s a kind gesture. I am grateful for the dressed.” The little old man puffed up, smiling as he brought the tray over to the bed where she sat. Smee cheerfully kept her company as she ate, regaling her with tales of their plunder, and she in return played the role of animated listener. Wendy actually found herself disappointed when Smee left to attend to his chores on deck. Rather than moping about, she instead busied herself by searching through the captain's cabin. Although she found that all sharp objects or weapons had been already removed, she did find assorted jewelry and all sorts of little treasures scattered throughout the drawers which she was able to amuse herself with for a time. In the bottom drawer of the desk, Wendy found a leather-bound journal of sorts, with a few tintypes tucked into the pages. She pulled one out under the lamp to see it better. In the photograph was a smiling young man with short curly hair, and a cleanly shaven face. His handsome features were obvious even in the grainy black and white photograph. After admiring it a moment more, Wendy nearly gasped out loud when she realized that the young man in the image was none other than Hook! He was dressed stylishly, and looking confidently at the camera, face clear of any worry lines or stress. He looked carefree, and so much younger. What happened to you? she wondered. Startled when she heard the key in the lock, Wendy fumbled to tuck everything back into place. She tossed the journal back into the drawer and kicked it shut at the same moment the heavy door to the cabin swung open. Hook gave her an amused look upon entering, and bowed mockingly in her direction. "I trust you slept well my lady" he said with a flourish of his hand. Wendy merely sat and glared. How the beautiful young man in the picture had grown into this tyrant, this pirate was unbeknownst to her. Wendy bit her lip, but could not help asking the question that had been burning at the back of her mind all day. "What did you do with the boys?" Hook began to laugh. "While I was gone, the bumbling idiots known as my crew managed to lose them all to Pan." He took off his jacket, and set it over the post on the bed, still chuckling to himself. Now confused more the ever, Wendy took a careful step back towards the wall. "Then why are you laughing?" "I am laughing because I have what I want right here. Pan made a mistake in bringing you here. He showed me his one weakness. You see, my dear, you cannot make the trip back, you are too old. Pan knew this, and planned on keeping you with him, as a mother, for the rest of time. That is the one thing he most desperately wants, and therefore the one thing I shall ensure he will never have." She saw it all clearly now. She was not actually part of the plan to trap Pan. That was never even Hook's intention. Instead, he planned to possess her like a treasure, a constant reminder to Pan of the one thing he will never have. She was no more important to anyone than any of the jewels collected by the crew during their regular plunders. She didn’t know what infuriated her more, the sudden realization that she could never return home, or the fact that he seemed to find her plight amusing. "You bastard!" Wendy ground out past her clenched teeth, her fury washing over her I waves. "It is Pan that has done this to you, not me. Like he took my hand from me, he has taken your future and your home from you.” Hook reasoned but Wendy was beyond caring. “But you are the one who is holding me here as nothing more than a pawn! I hate you, I hate what you are, what you say! I hate this ship, and this godforsaken place. I want to go home!" Wendy cried, tears flowing freely down her cheeks. She had bottled all of her anger over the past day's events, and was releasing it all at once. She rushed at him and began to beat on his chest. He just stood there motionless though, leaving her free to continue her assault. Slowly, her strikes became fewer and weaker. The fear that she was trapped, that she would grow old in this place began to take over. Her knees collapsed, and Hook caught her as she began to fall. As she began to sob uncontrollably now, she noticed that he led her to his chair where he sat down. He gave her no option as he pulled her into his lap. Weak and trembling now, Wendy just collapsed into him. Caring only that he was a warm body, she cried into his chest. She only vaguely registered that warm arms now encircled her shaking body. When she finally realized her compromising position, she scrambled to her feet. Although embarrassed, she straightened up and turned to face him, her head held high. "I am not your enemy you know. You think they are your friends, but Pan and all the boys will outlive you as they will outlive me. They will never be able to understand your sorrows and woes, for they have none of their own". "I wish to be left alone" was all that she said. The captain nodded his head, and left quietly. When the door had been shut and locked again, her short-lived strength failed her and she collapsed on the bed in another fit of tears, which she vowed would be her last. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
