Chapter Four
Edward was peeking through the second story bedroom window from his seat on the tree branch. He was watching how David was standing in front of an old antique looking mirror that was hanging on the snowy white wall. Its frame was blacker than coal and coiled with sharp thorns that were even darker. The glass itself was a slight shade of pale pink and it was beautiful. But, the image it held within its rosy surface was even more so.
He hadn’t told his family anything that had happened, but, Alice had had that all knowing look on her lovely face. It had been so damn smug, too. He had chased her down, messed up her hair, and pleaded with her not to say a thing to Esme or Carlisle. She had only giggled like a demon possessed school girl she was and pinky promised him that she wouldn’t tell a living soul. Well, it was the best he could get out of her. So, the whole household probably knew he was interested in a guy. Well, at least she didn’t mention anything about him having powers. Maybe she couldn’t see into David’s future just like he couldn’t see inside his gorgeous head. He now knew it had to do with the power he possessed.
He could still taste mountain lion on his tongue and it helped to curb his hunger. He was still in some shock that he had left a few drops of blood on his mouth. He was usually so careful about such things. Well, at least David thought he had bit his tongue or something in all the crazed excitement.
So, David Thorn was more than just a beautiful, intoxicating, intelligent, and funny blonde with a super tan. He possessed an amazing talent, too. He just didn’t quite know what that power was yet. Was it telekinesis?
He put his icy white hands to the glass and pouted with full red lips. It was so frustrating! Why couldn’t he read the minds of this family? He wanted to dig into the blonde’s mind and snatch him up some buried treasure.
Mrs. Thorn’s mind was hidden behind a wall of flame and the grandmother’s mind was like the white noise from a television set with static. David’s mind, well, it was like the silence of a graveyard. His thoughts and feelings were hidden in the mist and among snow covered tombstones.
He pondered on that for a moment. Perhaps their first real date should be a romantic stroll through the local cemetery at night when the moon was full. It would be sweet to cuddle and kiss on top of someone’s gravestone. He imagined himself with large black bat wings, crouched over David who had his golden throat bared for him to taste, trying to keep his clothes on.
He shook his head. That was so Buffy and Angel. He wasn’t a stereotype. He was so better than that.
He watched how David was posing in the mirror. His slightly smaller frame was very alluring. He didn’t possess a rock hard body, but, it was toned and sculpted in all the right places. He was a stunning image in his immortal topaz jewels.
The blonde suddenly spun around from his mirror and was looking right at him with wide green eyes. They were like the color of grass after a light rain. God, he was so beautiful. He nearly hissed with pleasure when those petal pink lips curved upwards.
He tapped the window ever so gently and leaned back when the blonde opened it up. He couldn’t help but smile.
“How long have you been here?” David asked, leaning out.
“Long enough,” Edward smirked, showing his really white teeth.
David pursed his lips. “Long enough, huh?”
Edward nodded. “I’ve been here long enough to see you mimic every pose from out of Teen Vogue.”
David rolled his eyes. “You think you’re so funny.”
“And awesome, too,” Edward laughed, leaning closer to the blonde, sniffing. David was half naked and his golden curls were wet. “You smell really nice.”
“I do?” David asked, sounding surprised. “I just got done working out.”
“Ah,” Edward grinned, sitting back on his branch. “May I come in?”
“Please don’t fall and break your neck,” David said, taking a few steps backwards from the open window. “I don’t want to have to explain to my mom why your dead body is in the bushes.”
Edward chuckled, standing up with supernatural ease. He leaped off the branch as if he were a dancer on ice and was standing before the blonde with a smug smile on his handsome face.
David was just standing there, looking stunned. He started to silently clap his hands. “If I had a card, I’d write down ten, and hold it up.”
Edward took a graceful bow, doing the royal wave. “Thank you, thank you!”
“Be quiet, you idiot!” David hissed, rushing forward to clamp a golden hand over his seductive mouth. “You do not want to wake the Dragon Lady.”
Edward cocked his head to the side, and licked that sweaty palm. David gasped, removing it. It made him chuckle. “Dragon Lady?”
“I’ll tell you later,” the blonde said, looking at his palm, blushing like a rose as he shut the window. “Do you mind if I go take a shower?”
Edward shook his head. In fact, that would be very wise. The blonde’s scent was making him really…
“Go right ahead,” he said. “I’ll just look at your books.”
David nodded, walking across his rather large room to the door. He turned around. “Make yourself at home.”
Edward smiled. “Oh, I intend to.”
David rolled his eyes and left the room.
Edward looked around. The whole room smelled like him. He wanted to walk over, throw himself down on the bed, and roll around in his scent. He wanted to hold that tight body in his arms and kiss him until he couldn’t breathe…well, until the blonde couldn’t. He couldn’t breathe, so, he could practically kiss for forever.
He heard the sound of running water and suddenly felt like doing something naughty. But, he wouldn’t do it. He didn’t want to give the guy a heart attack and risk getting blasted through a wall for trying to shower with him. Plus, he didn’t want to wake Mrs. Thorn. He wondered why she was called the Dragon Lady. There was definitely a story to be told there.
He walked over to the bookshelf and began tracing a pale finger along the spines, looking at the titles. There were books on Greek, Roman, Celtic, Norse, Egyptian, Native American, Japanese, and Chinese mythology. There were a few fantasy novels, and biographies of famous peoples. They all had him cocking a brow. So, the blonde was into all this supernatural stuff. Well, this might make his coming out even easier. There were quite a few movies, too. Ah, he liked anime. Oh, was that magna? Yes, yes it is.
“Vampire Hunter D?” He whispered, looking it over, muttering sarcastically. “I wonder what the D stands for.”
He put the movie down and glided gracefully forward to look at his stunning image in the rose colored glass. He really was a beautiful creature. He loved to look at himself when he knew nobody was around to see him do so.
“David,” he said with a stern voice. “I’m a vampire.”
That made him sigh and he rolled his eyes. Yeah, that would work. The blonde would look at him like he was crazy and then laugh.
“I looked at your books and I see that you’re into the supernatural,” he said, cocking a brow. “Well, I am the Supernatural…I’m a vamp…”
He shook his head. How the hell was he going to do this? The guy knew he was really fast and strong.
“I’m Superman,” he said, smiling at himself with sharp teeth. “Well, not really. I’m way better looking and a vampire to boot.”
He suddenly felt like stomping his foot, but, that would make noise. He didn’t want to wake the Dragon Lady up and have to hide in the closet. He was sort of out of it and he wasn’t going back in. It was dark and lonely in there. Plus, the spiders and cobwebs were a snore.
He ran his hands through his bronze colored hair. This was going to be difficult. He didn’t want to scare the blonde, but, he should be afraid. He had a vampire lusting after him.
“Wow,” a voice said from behind him. “You really are vain.”
Edward slowly turned around. The blonde was looking at him with a smug smile on his face. Damn, his secret was out.
“That was a fast shower,” he said, admiring how the blonde looked with wet hair. He had on a pair of white shorts and a white t-shirt. The color white looked really good on him. It complemented his golden-amber skin tone to perfection. He was so lovely.
“I didn’t want to seem rude by indulging myself,” David said, throwing the towel over his shoulder, and closing the door. “I’m actually surprised you came.”
“Why’s that?” Edward asked.
David just looked at him.
“May I sit down?” Edward asked him.
David motioned for him to sit wherever he liked.
Edward smirked. He chose the big comfy bed. It had a huge black comforter spread out on it with large fluffy white pillows at the head.
“Not with your shoes on!” David hissed, rolling his eyes. “Take them off!”
Edward snorted and kicked his shoes off at the foot. They fell to the floor with a light thud. “Why are you surprised I came? I told you I would.”
David looked up from his shoes. “Are you seriously asking me that?”
Edward scooted back so that he could recline comfortably on the soft fluffy pillows. He crossed his perfect paper white feet at the ankles, smiling at him with deep crimson lips.
“I killed that animal,” he whispered, lowering his eyes. “I felt no pity and no remorse…at the time. I just wanted it to suffer and die.”
Edward wiggled his sexy toes and saw how the blonde blushed. It made him grin. So, the blonde was checking him out. Well, he was sexy…and on his bed.
“Come here,” he said, holding out his creamy white hand for him to come take hold of.
Molten blue eyes looked up at him and they were filled with some strange emotion. He didn’t understand what it was.
“You’re really not afraid of me?” David asked him, holding himself like he was cold.
Edward shook his head, sitting up with snake-like ease. “Come here, David.”
The blonde surprisingly did as he said and walked over to take his hand. He scooted so that his broad back was against the headboard and had David lay down between his legs with his head resting in his lap.
“My mom would erupt if she knew you were in here at this hour,” David told him with a chuckle.
Edward grinned, playing with his curly wet locks. Oh, he smelled so fine!
“You’re really strong,” David said, resting his hand on a jean clad thigh. “And you can obviously move really fast.”
Edward nodded. “Yes…”
“And you’re always cold,” David said, lifting his head back to look up at him. “Not in the emotional way, but your body is cold.”
“Is that a problem?” Edward asked with a slight smirk.
“Not at all,” David laughed, lowering his head back down. “I’m hot enough for the both of us.”
Edward snorted. That was funny and very punny, too. He had walked nose first into that brick wall.
“David?” Edward asked, gently running a cool finger along his neckline that was smooth as warm butter. “What do you want to ask me?”
“What movie do you want to see tomorrow night?” The blonde asked him. “And what is this place you like to eat at?”
Edward rolled his eyes. “Not that. You know what I mean.”
David was silent and Edward was anxious. He was biting his bottom lip, waiting for it.
“How are you able to move from once place to another so quickly?”
“Because,” Edward whispered, leaning back. “I’m not like you.”
“I know that,” David said. “But, what do you mean?”
“I’m not human,” Edward said, waiting for the explosion.
The blonde remained silent. It was okay with him. Silence was better than screaming. Plus, it gave him time to come up with ten contingency plans.
“So, you did run all the way back to that clearing to get the car keys in a blink,” David said.
Edward nodded. “I did. I’m very, very fast on my feet.”
David gently rolled over, sitting on his knees. His eyes were now like moonlight on water. They were so beautiful. He felt a golden finger being pressed against his lips and he wanted to lick it.
“You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to,” David whispered, smiling at him with rose pink lips. “I’m just happy that you’re not afraid of me and that you don’t want to sell me for cash on Ebay.”
Edward blinked. Was this crazy blonde for real? Did he really not care that he wasn’t some normal guy?
He gently cupped the blonde’s wrist, removing the finger from his lips. “Will you promise me that you won’t freak out if I show you something?”
“You’re so careful when you touch me,” David said, looking at the bigger pale white hand that was holding his ever so gently. “Why is that?”
Edward had him look at him. “Promise?”
David nodded.
“Well,” Edward said, letting him go. “Let’s get off the bed.”
“But,” David pouted. “I finally got you on it.”
Edward would have gawked.
“And my evil plan was going so well, too,” David fumed, shaking a fist in mock anger.
Edward rolled his eyes. “Come on.”
The two of them crawled off the bed and Edward told him to back up. The blonde did so and he lifted the bed up into the air as if it were a beach ball. It was a big bed, too. It was a queen.
David whistled. “So…you could have torn that mountain lion apart?”
Edward gently sat the bed back down without making a sound. “I was just going to smack it around a bit and send it running back into the woods…”
David frowned. “So…I’m the monster.”
Edward turned around so fast it was like he had never moved. “You’re not a monster. You were protecting someone who you thought was just a human.”
David smiled. “You really mean that…don’t you, Ed?”
Edward nodded. “Do you want to see something else?”
“All right,” David said. “Show me how fast you are.”
Edward was suddenly standing behind the blonde, pecking him on the back of the neck with an index finger. He watched the blonde spin around, only to turn back. He was sitting Indian style in the center of the bed, smiling at him in amusement.
“Was that fast for you?”
David nodded, scratching the back of his neck. “That’s just cool.”
Edward grinned and the blonde’s eyes widened just a little.
“My goodness, Edward,” he said, stepping closer to the bed. “What sharp canines you have…”
Edward reached out for him. He gently pulled the blonde onto the bed and against his diamond hard chest. He held him just like that in his muscular arms.
“Your heart,” David whispered after a few minutes, putting his hands to his still chest. “You have no heartbeat.”
Edward closed his eyes. Now the explosion would come. He would be forced to flee. His family would have to move…again! Why had he risked it all for someone he has only known for two days?
“No, I don’t,” Edward told him and he was shocked. His own voice was filled with sadness. “It stopped beating a long time ago.”
Here it comes. Any minute now the blonde would scream and push him away.
“Are you going to eat my brain?” David asked him.
Edward blinked. “Huh?”
“My brain,” David said, pushing gently off his muscular chest with his palms, looking into his eyes. “Are you going to eat my brains, Mr. Zombie?”
Edward snorted, snatched a pillow, and quickly put it over his face. Did the blonde really think he was a zombie? He howled with laughter into the pillow. He couldn’t help it. Him? A zombie? It was absurd!
“I’ve made out with a dead guy,” David mused, looking away with a look of ponder on his face. “Does this make me a necrophiliac?”
“Yes,” Edward snorted between fits of laughter. “Yes it does.”
David looked at him and grinned. “So…about my brain?”
“What about it?” Edward asked, putting the pillow down, softly snickering. “If I were a zombie, I doubt your brain would do much to stanch my insatiable thirst for the living.”
David narrowed his eyes, looking him over, sniffing. “You certainly don’t smell dead.”
Edward grinned.
“You smell too good.” He said.
“I know,” Edward said. “I always smell good.”
David suddenly smiled. “Are you the Vampire Lestat?”
“No!” Edward snapped like lightning, laughing into the pillow again. He had no idea his coming out could be so damn funny. It was maddening. “I’m Edward Cullen! I’m way better than that self-centered…twit!”
David just looked at him. “Pot…kettle…black…Ed…”
“No,” Edward said, shaking his head. “I’m the best.”
David nodded. “You’re a vampire?”
Edward quickly sobered. This was serious. His livelihood and the safety of his family were on the line here. “I am.”
“I finally meet someone who is actually interested in me,” David said, crawling away from him. “And he turns out to be a really nice guy who sleeps in a coffin…wait, you go to school…”
“Don’t believe everything you read,” Edward told him. “I pick my fangs with crosses, use garlic as underarm deodorant, rinse my mouth out with holy water every Sunday, and I absolutely love to sunbathe in the nude when nobody is around for miles to see me do so.”
“What about stakes through the heart?” David asked.
“It’s just really annoying,” Edward answered. “And it stings at first.”
“Fire?”
“I don’t like fire,” Edward told him honestly. “It can hurt me just like it can hurt you.”
“So,” David said, sitting on his knees at his feet. “This is why you told me that you were dangerous.”
Edward nodded. “I can be when I’ve not fed.”
David’s eyes widened. “You didn’t bite your lip when I shoved you down, did you?”
Edward shook his head. “I had to do something because your scent was driving me crazy…and your kisses…”
“You ate that mountain lion?” David asked.
“They’re my favorite to hunt,” Edward smiled with fangs. “My bigger brother, Emmett, he hunts bears.”
“You don’t eat people?” He asked.
“No,” Edward told him. “My family is different. We’ve found a way to coexist with humans peacefully.”
“You’re a vampire,” David said, repeating it several times.
“I am,” Edward told him. “If I’m scaring you, I’ll leave.”
He started to get up, but David stopped him.
“You’re not scaring me,” David said, and there was truth in his voice. “I’d send you flying through the roof if you were…or I’d just yell for the Dragon Lady.”
“Why do you call your mom that?” He asked, really wanting to know. It just made her sound silly.
“Have you ever read about Pompeii?” David asked, slightly shivering.
“Yeah?”
“Well,” the blonde said, resting his hands on Edward’s ankles. “Think of her like she’s that sleeping volcano.”
Edward cocked a brow, looking at those golden hands. David was still touching him. That was a good sign. He couldn’t make his way through the mist and gravestones to see what he was thinking in that tripped out head of his.
“Your mom…”
“My mom can make things explode into flames,” David told him. “She is like a living, breathing, walking flamethrower. My grandmother told me that at one time my mom got so angry…she breathed fire.”
Edward cocked his head to the side. “Are you serious?”
Hmm, that would explain why her mind was nothing but a wall of fire.
“Granny is the one who started calling her the Dragon Lady,” he laughed. “And I do to whenever she is angry.”
Edward nodded. Okay, that’s rather scary.
“Note to self,” he said, holding up a finger. “Stay on Dragon Lady’s good side.”
“You’re a vampire?”
“Yes. I’m a vampire, David.”
“Can you fly?”
Edward pouted. “I wished.”
“So, Alice and Jasper are vampires, too?”
“They are,” he said.
“I thought you three were too perfect,” David said, scooting up closer to him again.
“Aw,” Edward grinned, caressing a golden cheek with gentle tenderness. “You think I’m too perfect?”
“With one major flaw!” David roared, quickly covering his mouth.
They both listened. There wasn’t a sound. Edward could hear no footsteps or anything. If only he could read these people’s minds. He’d feel a lot more secure.
“And what’s that one major flaw?” Edward asked.
“Your ego!” He hissed, yanking on his hair. “That’s what!”
“You’re really violent when you’re angry,” Edward told him, pouting as he touched his hair. It hadn’t hurt at all.
“Sorry,” he said, smiling at him. “I get it from my mom.”
“You smell really good,” Edward whispered, wanting to hold him close, but was too afraid to try. He didn’t want to scare him.
“Do I smell like dinner or something?” David asked.
“You’re seriously not freaked out by this?” Edward asked in shock.
“Umm, no,” David said, putting his hand to where Edward’s heartbeat should have been. “My mom is a human torch, and I can move things with my mind.”
“What about your grandmother?” Edward asked. “What can she do?”
“Her power is something a little softer,” he said, smiling. “She can walk through walls.”
“Are you for real?” Edward asked.
“She used to rob banks and museums back in the day.” David told him. “She wouldn’t settle for less than sacks of hundreds and jewels.”
“So, I take it that your family is very wealthy,” Edward said.
“We live comfortably,” David assured him. “I take it that you are wealthy as well, Mr. Immortal.”
“You should see my collection of cars,” Edward smiled. “You would love them.”
“Have you ever seen the Crown Jewels of London?” David asked.
Edward shook his head.
“I’ll show them to you sometime,” David smiled. “They’re my granny’s prize possessions. It took her two weeks just to get them all.”
Edward snorted. “So, are you really okay?”
“Well, it’s not like you’re going to pounce on me and tear my throat out,” David told him.
“Oh, but I do,” Edward said in a deep, smoky voice. “I do want to pounce on you…and kiss you dizzy.”
“I just have one question,” David said, looking at him.
“What?” Edward asked in a husky voice, looking like he was about to pounce at any minute.
David looked down and Edward followed his eyes. Those molten blue emeralds were gazing at his crotch.
“Can you?”
“Can I what?” Edward asked, feeling naughty again.
“Since you’re a vampire,” David said, looking like he wanted to reach out and touch him, but was blushing too furiously to do so. “Can you…can you get an erection?”
“Hmm,” Edward said, suddenly on his knees in a blur, hands gently gripping his slightly smaller shoulders. “How about I show you sometime later on down the road?”
“Now I see why you’re so careful when you touch me,” David said, trembling just slightly. It wasn’t from fear…it was from pleasure. “You could literally break me like glass, couldn’t you?”
Edward’s eyes widened just a little and he nodded. “I have to be so careful when I’m around humans. I could want to playfully punch you like I do my brother’s and really hurt you. I could want to gently poke your nose and accidentally break it…or worse.”
“It’s okay,” David told him, wrapping his arms around him, smiling against his still chest. “If it were to happen, I’ll know you didn’t mean it, and you’ll have a serious ass kicking waiting for you when I wake up.”
Edward snorted. “Are you too good to be true?”
“I don’t know,” David said, sniffing him. He still smelled like honeysuckle. “So, are we still on for tomorrow?”
Edward nodded. “You will have to keep what I and my family a secret, of course.”
“Well, yeah-duh,” David said. “And mine as well.”
“Of course,” Edward said. “What time do you want me to be here?”
“Do you have to leave?” David asked.
Edward shook his head. “I’ll wait until you’re asleep.”
This really was too good to be true. David was just…David.
“Will you tell me a story?” David asked with a shy expression.
“Sure,” Edward said, helping the blonde to get comfortable beside him on the bed.
“You can get under to you know,” David smiled, opening up the sheets for him. “I’ll warm that cool flesh.”
“How can you talk that way?” Edward asked, getting in with him, being careful how he held him. “And still blush at the same time?”
“I have many gifts,” David told him, snuggling closer.
“Am I too cold?” Edward asked, feeling the blonde drape a leg over his, and rubbing the bottom of his icy foot with the top of his warm one.
David shook his head, yawning. “I love the cold.”
Edward tenderly kissed the top of his head. What was this? He had never felt anything like this before in his long 100 some years of life. Was this some kind of magic?
“Story,” David muttered.
“Oh, right,” Edward said, snapping out of his thoughts. “Once above a time, which really wasn’t all that above to be honest with you. In fact, it was more like down below, down below in the deep dark ocean.”
“The ocean?” David asked.
“Hush,” Edward said. “I’m trying to story tell here.”
David rolled his eyes.
“There lived an extremely handsome merman.” He said, smiling up at the ceiling. “He was strong, powerful, and had the looks of a god.”
“So,” David said. “He’s you.”
“Exactly,” Edward told him. “And he is on a mission to rescue his beautiful golden haired boyfriend from the fiery and terrible sea dragon’s lair.”
David snorted. “That’s my mother you’re talking about there…go on.”
Edward did so.
“And the extremely handsome merman who was forged of awesome was able to save his beautiful golden haired boyfriend with the power of extremely delicious chocolate…The End.”
David was snoring ever so softly and it made him lightly chuckle. It had been a fun story to tell. He really should write it down. In fact, he would. He was pretty good at drawing, too. Heck, he was good at everything.
He made sure that his beautiful golden haired boyfriend was tucked in and warm before leaving the house. He was happy. Edward Cullen was really happy.
“Now,” he said, looking around as he dashed home. “I must look out for flying rocks. Glass houses are very fragile.”
The grass was wet under his feet. Why was he feeling wet? Oh, he had forgotten his shoes.
Should he go back and get them? What if the Dragon Lady found them? His feet were bigger than David’s. There is no way she would believe them to be her son’s. Well, they were at the foot of the bed. He was sure David would see them first thing in the morning and hide them.
Hmm, here was another bedtime story for another night.
The Dragon Lady and the Forgotten Boyfriend’s Shoes.
“Hey,” Alice said, smiling coyly. “Where are your shoes?”
He looked down, gawking. “Huh, I guess I ran out of them…how about that, Al?”
She rolled her eyes. “You think you’re so funny.”
Edward looked at her. “I really like him.”
So, she could see him?
“I know,” she smiled, looking genuinely happy. “I just want you to be careful.”
“I will,” he said, running up the stairs to his room. He closed the door and jumped on his bed. All he could think about was David.
David, David, David. His beautiful golden haired boyfriend. Hmm, he needed to ask him out for real.
“David,” he said, rolling over onto his back, looking up at the dark ceiling. “Will you be my boyfriend?”
He snorted, imitating David’s lighter voice. “Don’t make me mentally kick your ass. Isn’t the man supposed to ask that?”
He chuckled, making plans in his head for the rest of the night.
