Magnus closed his eyes and reached out to Clary with his mind. He hadn’t spoken to her in two weeks and he’d heard that she was going back to Idris for college but he hadn’t believed. He wanted to talk to her before she left but it appeared that she was avoiding him, not that he could blame her…he hadn’t exactly been very sensitive but those were emotions that he was never very good at. However, the pretty redhead was quickly becoming amazing at ignoring his calls and mental conversation. He got images though, he should have listened to the images the first time when he saw her packing. He thought that she was merely going through some old clothes, but he soon realized that those were her new clothes and that she was packing a lot. It made him nervous that she was intending to leave and he spent too much time worrying about what was about to happen than doing anything. He now stormed in to the office that Jocelyn and Luke were sitting in, the werewolf was reading the paper and the woman was going over some paperwork.
“Where’s Clary?” Magnus asked nervously as he looked around the office.
“She’s not here, Magnus” Jocelyn answered.
“I see that” He snapped and Luke slowly lowered the paper to look over the top at him.
“Watch yourself, Warlock” He warned.
“Take your own advice, Wolf!” Magnus hissed as his hands sparked with purple flames “I think I can…”
“Stop it” Jocelyn snapped “Both of you, now!” She threw her hands in the air “Really Luke…I expect Magnus to be immature but you?”
“Where is she?” Magnus asked “She won’t connect with me at all and won’t respond to me at all…where is she?”
“She went to a college in Idris” The red-haired woman answered calmly “She’ll be there for a few months on her own and I would ask you nicely to not bother her while she’s away…she needs time to think and so don’t you”
“No” He said looking at his hands in confusion “I wanted… I don’t know”
“She left you this” Jocelyn handed him the letter that Clary left behind for him “She asked I remain here while you read it”
“What does it say?” He asked taking it from her.
“I don’t know” She answered “Read it” He looked at her with a frown before opening the piece of paper that had been handed to him.
Dear Magnus,
By now I’m sure that you know I’ve gone to Idris to a college there to help hone my skills as a shadow-hunter. There was another reason that I left that was clearly personal for the two of us and that was that I think we both need time to figure out this bond that’s between us. While I am away I will study that as well as anything else that may catch my interest, if anything will. I apologize for not telling you in person but to be perfectly honest your eyes tend to make me forget what it was I was about to say.
I know that things have been crazy and that you may not even believe me when I tell you what I’m about to write but I can’t leave until I know that I told you what I know. I spoke with Isobel a few weeks ago and she told me something that I feel you need to know. Alec is currently going on dates with women that his parents are setting him up with, she told me that his parents see it as time to settle down and get married. That’s why he’s being set up with women from all over the place, they hope to make a good match so he’ll have strong shadow-hunter children to carry on the name ‘Lightwood’. I don’t know what he’s got planned for his relationship with you but the last I knew was that he had his eyes set on a woman named Jenna Jae and that it was becoming kind of serious.
Now you know what it is that I know. I apologize to you Magnus for not telling you sooner but I figured that you would think I was merely jealous or trying to split you up. Please, don’t tell Alec that I’m the one who told you as Izzy wasn’t supposed to tell me and everyone would get in trouble.
Good Luck,
Clary Fairchild
Jocelyn watched the Warlock closely as he read the letter a few more times and as his eyes traced over the letters of her daughters name. Then she saw his head tilt to the side and his brow furrowed, when he raised his eyes to hers they were cat-eyed but not his normal green color. Instead, they were a brown color that didn’t fit his personality and he looked completely lost. Then he looked confused and put his hand against his chest as he felt something in his chest, a feeling that he’d not felt since he was a teenager and something he never wanted to feel again. Heartbreak.

Clary was dressed in a black skirt, white camisole with a black shirt and tall matching boots. She walked through the door of the dorm room that she was sharing with two other female shadow-hunters. Both girls were in there already and smiling toothily at her when she walked in, they had all been given information packs as to whom they were living with so she knew that the beautiful dark skinned girl with the short hair, tall lean body and wide grin was Markka Jones. The other girl with long white blonde hair, dark blue eyes, tanned skin and a surprisingly curvy figure was Olivia Kraft.
“Clary Fairchild” Markka greeted “I’m Markka Jones and this is Olivia Kraft it’s very nice to meet you”
“Nice to meet you” Clary answered.
“So” Olivia said as she sat down on her bed “I was homeschooled all my life and my parents wanted me to come here to make friends and meet a husband”
“I started out at a regular shadow-hunter school” Markka picked up “But by the time I was eleven my parents weren’t happy with the results of my training so they decided to homeschool me and then sent me here to make more friends and find a husband” She and Olivia smiled at one another and then smiled at Clary “What about you, Miss Fairchild?”
“I didn’t know I was a shadow-hunter until a couple of months before my eighteenth birthday” Clary answered “Until then I lived as a mundane, I studied at the Institute in NYC for the last year and chose to come here to get away from problems at home and to make friends”
“Not to meet a husband?” Olivia asked in shock.
“No” Clary said “Just to make friends and get to know the world I know very little about”
Clary and her new roommates took their time setting up their stuff in their room and then going their separate ways to get their class schedules. It was another three hours before they were back in the room together. Clary saw that her first class was at nine the next morning and that it was Rune Identification which was followed by Understand Downworlders then she had a break until two in the afternoon when she would go to a Create Your Own Rune class. The day after was when all the physical classes would be added in, from the look of her schedule she wouldn’t have too much time to think about Magnus or Jace which suited her just fine.
“I have an idea” Olivia said from her bed “We’re going to be living together for at least a few months so we should trust one another, right?”
“Yeah” Clary said while Markka nodded.
“Let’s ask one another questions” Olivia said “I’ll start by volunteering information”
“Alright” Markka said “But let’s just say first. There’s no judgment here and none of these secrets will be told to anyone else, right?”
“Right” The other girls agreed.
“Here is goes” Olivia said “I am nineteen and I lost my virginity when I was fifteen to my tutor”
“Wow” Clary blushed and looked at her hands.
“That is so funny” Markka said “I’m eighteen and I lost my virginity when I was sixteen to my next door neighbor’s son” They both looked at Clary and waited which made her blush even more.
“Well…I’m eighteen” She answered “I’ve not lost my virginity yet”
“Awesome” Olivia said “So, has anyone here dated a downworlder?”
“I went on a date with a werewolf once” Markka said “He was really nice but my parents didn’t approve of the relationship so I had to end it”
“A friend of mine is actually going to be living in the Fairfolk’s world” Clary said “She should learn a lot living there”
“That would be so cool” Markka said “How about you, do you know any downworlders?”
“My moms dating a werewolf” Clary answered “My best friend was turned in to a Vampire and I’m pretty good friends with a Warlock”
“Wow” Olivia laughed “It’s like downworlder city over here” Clary laughed and on the questions went, these girls were nicer than she had originally thought they would be. She figured they would all be like Izzy and Alec’s mother, uptight and a complete bitch but they were just like her mundane friends in New York.
A/N: Shorter chapter but I hope you like it. I’m not going to dwell on college too much more getting to getting her home again. But I wanted her to have some time away. We’ll see Alec and Magnus interact more in the next chapter.
