Chapter 5

I woke up feeling like crap.

I was in a room I did not recognize. I immediately sat up; the blanket covering me fell down. I still had my cloths on so that was a plus.

“Good to see your up,” a voice said.

I quickly turned to the sound of the voice. There to my side was a man. He was about five foot 9, his hair was a yellow light blonde, his eyes where light blue. He was well muscled like a soccer player. He was barefoot with a pair of jeans and a yellow shirt that went nice with his hair.

“Who are you?” I asked.

“I’m Nick; I’m one of the pack.” He said.

“I know what are you doing here?” I asked.

“Richard wanted me to keep an eye on you while you recuperated,” he said fixing his shirt. I saw he had a necklace of some kind under his shirt. I saw jagged teeth like objects tied around it.

“Where am I?” I asked curiously.

“This is Richard’s house; we brought you here after last night.” He said.

“Last night? What time is it?” I asked confused.

“About ten in the morning, just in time for a late breakfast.” He said.

I rubbed my head and tried to remember exactly what happened last night. Slowly but surely it all came back to me. The Lupanar, the Munin, my metaphysical fight with the tamer and his master. I felt sick; if they had wanted to they could have killed me so easily. I guess I had grown cocky about my own power. But after facing those two. It made me feel helpless all over again, like with The Dragon.

“You Okay?” he asked sitting on the bed and rubbing my back.

“Not particularly no but I’ll live.” I said.

“I’ll go inform the others you’re awake.” He said standing up.

“Others?” I asked confused.

“Yes Richard, Anita, and the Bat prince.” He said the last part distastefully.

Drake was here? That made me feel better.

“You have caused quite a stir you know.” Nick said.

“Huh?”

“After last night the whole pack is in an uproar. Now that we know there is a traitor in our midst everyone doesn’t know who to trust.” He said sadly.

“How long have you been a member?” I asked uneasily.

“Ha, don’t worry. I have been a proud member of the Thronnos Rokke Clan for two years and counting now.” He said smiling.

The door suddenly opened and there was Drake. He came rushing forward pushing Nick out of the way “Are you ok? How are you feeling?” he said feeling my head and even checking my pulse.

“Drake I’m fine.” I said shocked at how emotional he was acting.

“I could feel it, I felt you in danger and I was unable to help you.” He said angrily, his dark eyes blazing with anger.

“I fine now, its ok.” I said giving him a hug.

He wrapped his arms around me and squeezed like he thought I would disappear.

“Uh hem.” Someone cleared there throat.

We let go of each other and saw Richard and Anita had walked in.

Ulfric, Lupa.” Nick said bowing to them.

“I hear you had a rough night.” Anita said walking forward.

“You have no idea.” I said.

“I need you to tell me exactly what happened.” Anita said.

I told them every thing that happened. From the moment I felt the Munin, to when I dueled (and lost) against the two strangers.

“And your sure they where like you?” Anita asked.

“The master was. Don’t ask me how I knew, my power just sensed it. But the other one was different.”

“Different how?” Richard asked.

“He is the one who has infiltrated your pack. I know it’s a he but I didn’t get a look at his face. He can call wolves, just wolves that’s all.”

“I don’t get it, why didn’t the Munin warn us before?” Nick asked.

“The infiltrator can call wolves; he must be using his power to keep them quit. They came to me because my power is stronger than his, I am an Animus he is a tamer.” I said.

“What the hell does that mean?” Nick asked.

“Animus is a term for what I am. Someone who can communicate and control all aspects of the animal kingdom, a tamer is someone who can only call a single animal. It’s like a Necromancer and an Animator kind of thing.” I said.

“Have you ever seen another one like yourself?” Anita asked.

“No. I only learned about them that night we visited Narcissus. I had always thought I was the only one. But when Narcissus revealed he knew a woman who could call Hyena’s William informed me about the Animus and Tamers.”

“I have never heard of such beings.” Richard said.

“William said they where more common thousands of years ago. But then some went bad and started to misuse there power. So all the shifters began to wipe them out. The vampires didn’t want them running around either so the council had it ruled they where supposed to be wiped out.”

“Jean-Claude never mentioned such a law.” Anita said.

“It was before they decided to write the rules down. The Dragon said only the older members of the council remember about us and the law to kill us on sight. Nigel had been around the time they existed. It was why he was so interested in me; he hadn’t seen a full blown Animus in so long he wasn’t sure if I was one.” I said.

Why would there be a Tamer in the pack though?” Nick asked. “I mean does he know what he is?”
“He knows, and he is a wolf. It is how he has remained undetected for so long. I have no idea why he is here though.”

“Do you think you could find him again?” Anita asked.

“No.” Drake said.

“Excuse me?” Anita asked.

“After what happened the first time you want to have him try again? You are either very foolish or selfish to think such a thing.” He said glaring at her.

Richard and Nick’s power began to fill the room.

“Don’t you dare speak to my Lupa like that?” Richard growled.

“Tell your Lupa not to dare risk one of my Harem Ulfric.” Drake shot back his power rising.

“Enough!” I shouted “Unless you have forgotten my power is very sensitive to shifter energy, so unless you want to wake it up back of all of you!” I growled. I grabbed my throat; it was a real growl that came from my mouth.

My power wasn’t bothered by the energy rise right now. It was taking a nap right now but I didn’t want Drake and Richard fighting. I had no doubt in my mind Drake was more then capable of defending himself. But Richard was a big dude and he was an Ulfric. It was a fight I did not want to see happen, so I made an empty threat. Empty threat or not everyone cooled down. They knew what my power was capable of and weren’t going to risk anything with it.

“So what’s this I hear about you having two lycanthropy strains?” Anita asked.

“I have two strains.” I said shrugging my shoulder.

“And that doesn’t bother you?” She asked.

“After everything else I’ve seen and done, not really.” I said shrugging my shoulders.

I saw her and Richard exchange looks. I didn’t like what I saw, like they suspected something but weren’t sure.

“So what are you going to do now?” I asked.

“Now where going to have to do some serious investigating. Now that we know it’s a male where looking for that will make the search easy.” Richard said. “Paranoia is already sweeping through the pack, I’m having Jamil and Shang-Da do double checks on everyone.”

“On the other hand I have good news and bad news.” Anita said.

“Oh this should be good.” I groaned.

“Good news when the leaders learned you tapped into the packs power many of them got nervous and don’t want you any where near them for fear you’ll tap into there’s.” she said.

“What’s the bad news?” I asked.

“Only the Rat’s, Lion’s, Hyena’s, Leopard’s, and unaffiliated still want you.” She said.

“And the wolves.” Richard said.

“And the wolves.” She said.

“Why would you want me anywhere near your place of power?” I asked Richard “I mean I figured you wouldn’t let me anywhere near there after the drain.” I said referring to when him, Anita, and Jean-Claude tried to run a test with my power. It went berserk and almost sucked all the power from them and everyone that was metaphysically tied to them.

“Can’t make an omelet with out breaking a few eggs,” He said with a shrug “It was a good call, if I didn’t bring you to the Lupanar we wouldn’t know about this threat.” He said.

“Why aren’t the other leaders worried he may tap into there power?” Drake asked.

“I have nothing to worry about when it comes to my Leopards. I can’t speak for the rest, but Narcissus obviously still has hopes for you and Andromeda, I have no idea why the unaffiliated want involved.” She said.

“Because there pathetically weak.” Drake said.

“Drake!” I chastised.

“It’s true, a few like Christine are strong enough to hold the group together but the rest are fresh meat.” He said, “They have obviously heard about Dave being able to make shifters strong.”

Narcissus had said the tamer he knew was capable of making weak hyena’s stronger. It had never happened with me that I noticed but that didn’t stop many of the shifters to want to be my best buddy.

“I’d rather go with them then the Lions.” I said.

“You have something against the Lions?” Nick asked surprised.

“The Lions no, the Rex? Yes. I know all about him and who he follows and I want nothing to do with that. Especially after the little stunt he pulled.” I said remembering when he fed me his lion.

“Don’t worry I have made it more then clear to him you are not to be involved with Auggy.” Anita said.

“So what now?” I asked. “How are we going to find this tamer?”

“Well we have to assume that now that they are aware of you they will try and get you. So once again we will have to have you guarded again.” Anita said.

“I will have Nick be your personal guard.” Richard said.

I looked at Nick and he smiled at me. Was it bad for me to feel more than a little happy about that?

“Me and mine are more than enough to protect him Ulfric; we do not need your charity.” Drake sneered.

“Don’t be rude.” I elbowed him in the ribs.

“In case you have forgotten Drake he carries the wolf strain. What if he has an episode like last night?” Richard said throwing Drake a glare.

“Thank you Richard I accept your offer.” I said putting emphasis on the eye part. Drake didn’t look happy but all well. It was my safety on the line so screw him.

“Well I hope you brought me a change of cloths Drake.” I said to him.

“Yes.” He said stiffly.

“Good because I have to be to work at no one. Richard may I use your shower?” I asked politely.

“Sure.” He said. Down the hall and to the left.” He said.

“You just survived a metaphysical fight and you want to go to work?” Drake asked perplexed.

“I got to do something, crying about it won’t change anything.” I said and headed for the bathroom.

It was quiet, to quiet.

Drake was driving me to the Lunatic Café. I had begun to work there after I was fired from the county Zoo. Nick was riding with us as he was my body guard and all. Drake wasn’t showing any emotion but from the way he was driving he was obviously upset.

“Slow down or well get pulled over.” I told him.

“Don’t tell me how to drive.” He said speeding up.

“Drake slow down, your way over the speed limit.” I told him.

“I’ll drive how I like.” He continued not even looking at me.

What the hell is his problem now?

“If you keep this up I’ll be way too early for work.” I said raising my voice.

Suddenly he slammed the brakes and it was a good thing we where all wearing seat belts.

“What the fuck!” Nick said.

“Drake!” I shouted at him.

“Better?” he asked coldly.

“Why are you being such a dick?” I asked.

“I’ll be what ever I want.” He snapped.

We arrived at the café a little early. Nick got out and I told him I would be right in.

“What is wrong with you?” I demanded.

“Just go to work.” He said.

“Thanks to your reckless driving I have more then a few minutes to spare, now tell me what your problem is?” I demanded.
“You lust after him!” Drake accused.

“Who?”

“You know who. Wolf boy.”

“Nick?” I asked.

“Yes who else!” he snapped his face showing some anger now.

“I don’t lust after him.” I said blushing.

“Yes you do, I can smell it. How do you think it makes me feel knowing you have such feelings for him and he has to protect you.”

“Just because I think he is attractive doesn’t mean I am going to act anything out. In case you forgot I am in a relationship with you.” I snapped at him.

He looked away. I grabbed his face and kissed him very roughly. When I pulled back his face was flushed and his cheeks where red.

“Wow.” He said.

“See like I said nothing to worry about, please don’t be jealous you know I love you.” I said.

“I’m sorry.” He said brushing some hair away from my face “But I think I may need more of your convincing later tonight.” He smiled.

“Got it.” I smiled and kissed him more gently.

“I have called Michelle and she will be here soon. The Ulfric is right now that you have the virus we must keep some beasts on standby just in case.” He said.

“I’ll see you later love you.” I said pecking his cheek with another kiss.

“You to.” He said.

As I got out of the car I felt a sharp pain in my rear. I turned around and saw Drake looking at me with a mischievous look. He slapped my ass!

I glared at him and closed the door. He drove off above the speed limit, no surprise. I walked into the café and immediately went behind the counter so I could clock in. I put my apron with the logo on and went behind the counter.

“Everything alright?” Nick asked coming to sit at the counter.
“Yeah he’s just nervous after last night.” I said.

“He should be we all should be. We have no idea who this infiltrator is or how long he has been here, the whole pack is on edge.” He said.

“Sorry for causing trouble.” I said.

“Don’t be, if there is a mole then he needs to be taken care of.” He said simply.

“Can I get you anything to drink?” I asked.

“Sure I’ll have a cup coffee, two sugars and some milk.” He said.

“You want cream?”

“No thanks.” He said flashing a smile that showed his teeth.

“Co-coming right up.” I said.

I went to go get him his coffee and shook my head. I can’t believe how handsome this guy is. Surely it’s illegal or something? I knew Drake was right I did have the hots for him. But like I said there was no way I was going to do anything about it. That doesn’t mean I can’t admire the goods though.

I handed him his coffee and took his money and gave him his change. While he drank from his cup I noticed the necklace with the teeth under his shirt.

“That’s a nice necklace.” I said.

“Thanks, real wolves’ teeth.” He said pulling it out a little to show me.

“Can I see it?” I asked it looked really cool.

“I’d rather you didn’t.” he said placing it back under his shirt “Nothing personal just real protective of it, it was a gift from a friend.” He said.

“No problem.” I said.

I heard the door open and turned to see who came in. I did a double take. What was he doing here? I wondered.
