Aurora sat by herself in a small cavity that resided in the stone wall of the black castle on the other side of the island from the Jolly Roger. Aurora had been crying almost constantly since she had been banned from the ship weeks ago. She wasn’t so much banned as her life would be forfeit if she returned. She was completely torn to shreds that she would never be able to return to James’ warm vest pocket again. All because of that human female ratting on her about what she had done. How dare she! You are never supposed to tell your dreams! Now if James ever saw Aurora again, he would have her captured and perhaps even killed. He was known to be so ruthless, especially where his female was concerned.
James finally returned to his cabin hours later. He had spent the remainder of the night on deck processing everything in his mind. Morning had broken, and the crew had started coming out on deck. He had gone through at least four more cigars, out of habit more than anything. He had discontinued smoking for awhile, but he resolved himself to staying away from the alcohol and anything else that might trigger an attack on Caitlin, the cigars started being a sort of a weak substitute. Hook had been trying to decide on what course of action was to be taken. Perhaps one day he would consent to having offspring, but that day was not today. Nor did he intend for it to be anytime in the near future.
As he entered into the cabin, he found Caitlin curled up in one of the large chairs, obviously having been waiting for him to return. It was at that moment James remembered that he had promised to return as soon as he finished having a word with the doctor. He had forgotten completely with the news that he had received, and it had not work out as he’d intended it to. James sighed and closed the door before walking over to her, sweeping her up off the chair into his arms. Carefully he carried her over to the bed, laying her down before pulling the covers over her to keep her warm.
Sitting beside her he gazed at her in silence for several long moments. Finally he spoke very softly so as not to wake her or disturb her. “In all truth my darling . . . I do not believe that you are yet ready for another adventure that will be so completely out of your control. You were just returned to me after I almost lost you.” Reaching up with his hook, he swept some of the curls back off her face that were obscuring his view. “I just got you back my love, and I refuse to share you with anyone else.” Leaning down he placed a gentle kiss to her cheek before rising slowly from the bed and walking away from her.
Peter Pan and his lost boys were hard at work making preparations for their attack; making new weapons, hundreds of arrows, new bows, crude clubs, and other nasty looking weapons that children, especially young boys, should never have access to. All work halted and eyes turned upwards when Tinkerbell flew inside of their hideout heading straight for Peter. She began to whisper in Peter’s ear telling him all that she had learned and she had seen as she was spying for them.
“Right, so if we finish everything, we will be able to attack in two days.” Tinkerbell nodded and continued on with her signs and whispers, explaining that some fairy elders and even members of the royal family would be accompanying them on their attack as well.
Aurora was not far and she knew extremely well that she was being hunted as a criminal to her kin. Yet she was not entirely certain why they were still targeting the Jolly Roger when she was no longer aboard. Perhaps they didn’t know about her like she had thought. Maybe they thought someone else was the renegade fairy they were searching for.
Back on the ship, Smee knocked quietly on the door of the Captain’s cabin before opening it and carefully slipping inside. The entire crew could feel there was something a miss when they found the Captain on deck this morning and were treading carefully. “Ye. . . ye sent for me? Capt’n?”
James removed his glasses and put them aside as he stood from his desk carrying two pieces of parchment with him. “I want you to take a selection of men ashore and retrieve everything that I have written down on this list. Make sure all of it is found and brought back with you or else there will be consequences in order.” Smee reached out nervously taking the paper from the Captain reading over it. There were few aboard the ship who could read. James, Liam, Smee and Caitlin were for the most part the only ones educated enough to do so.
“Capt’n . . . I don’t know if all of these things can be found in Neverland.” He said as they had never had a need for half of the things that Hook required and had included on the list.
“Well, you will not know that for certain until you take some men ashore and seek them out, WILL YOU.” Hook shouted impatiently at his first mate. He was incredibly irritable this morning, being as how he had not gotten any sleep and he was distraught over the news that had been delivered to him in the dead hours of the night. Smee took a step back and nodded quickly. Hook walked back to his desk and sat down before looking up, seeing his first mate still standing by the door. “What are you still doing here? GET TO YOUR TASK IMMEDIATELY!!!” Smee jumped and quickly ducked out of the cabin closing the doors behind him.
“James?” Hook turned to see Caitlin sitting up in bed looking rather sleepily at him. All the noise and the shouting and jerked Cat out of her slumber. “Is anything wrong?” Hook half smiled, not being able to be his charming while deceitful self this morning like he usually was. Caitlin moved the covers off of her and rose from the bed walking over to James.
“I waited for you to come back as long as I could. I guess I must have dozed off.” Reaching him, she touched his face gently a moment looking into his eyes. She noticed something was a bit odd about the way he looked and his unusually long silence. “James you look awful. You didn’t get any sleep again did you?” James still starred at her, as if he was trying to visually see some difference even though he saw none. Perhaps the doctor’s speculation was amiss. Yet what did one who was with child look like before her belly began to grow?
“No love. I had some rather . . . important matters to think over. Some important decisions that had to be made and couldn’t wait. That is all it was.” Caitlin was still a bit tired and reached down grasping James hook, wrapping her fingers around the cold iron claw before turning and leading him over to their bed as she moved to sit him down. It seemed that half the time James wasn’t even concerned with caring for himself.
“It seems you’ve run out of things that need to be seen to right now James. You need to rest just as much as I do, if not more.” Caitlin said in a gentle voice. Hook thought that an odd comment, maybe she knew? Or she was simply referring to the fact she had been ill quite often lately and was more exhausted and required more sleep then before. Caitlin bent down and removed each of James boots, before returning to his chest as her fingers started to unclasp the buttons. Hook just sat silently watching her face as she went about unclothing him. She was so beautiful.
As she had always done, with each piece of clothing that was removed, Caitlin put it aside neatly before moving into the next piece. Before she removed his undershirt, she tied his hair back from his face in a loose ponytail to keep it out of his eyes. Running her fingers through his hair over and over again to straiten it enough, James couldn’t help but close his eyes and just enjoy the gentle touches her hands were giving. He opened his eyes slowly as his eyes caught sight of her chest. It was actually quite chilly this morning, and her body announced it rather clearly. The perfect shape of her pink firm breasts could be clearly seen by his eyes through her white cotton nightgown. Hook suddenly realized that it had been quiet sometime since he had gazed on her beautiful body without the obstruction of clothes hiding her from the world.
Once his hair was out of the way, she removed his undershirt and moved away for a moment to put it aside with his other things. Yet James reached for her wrist and pulled her back to stand before him. Caitlin was a little surprised but she halted her movements as he drew her close watching him quietly.
James wrapped his bad arm around her back pulling her even closer to him still before he gently moved his hand over her warm breast and slowly began to caress her through the thin cotton cloth. Caitlin wasn’t entirely comfortable with this after what had happened last time, however remembering the occurrence the night before and how James reacted to it kept her still and quiet. Hook’s hand slowly slid down her chest and over her stomach before moving over her hip. Wrapping both of his arms around her now, he pulled her against him, leaning forward and placing a tender kiss to the peak of each soft orb as his hand caressed her back.
Caitlin’s breath was retreating deep into her chest and her lungs became lazy in their function, making it incredibly difficult to take in another. After a few more moments, he rested his head against her chest, holding her close as he listened to each gentle thud of her heartbeat. She was warm, alive and in his arms, and he cherished each and every moment of it.
A little while passed before Hook pulled back a bit releasing her from his grasp, reaching for the ties of her gown letting them fall loosely. Reaching up slowly, he slipped the cloth from her body and let it fall to the floor, revealing her beauty. He gazed at her a moment before at last looking into her eyes once again, “You are so beautiful . . . my wife.” He whispered to her as his hand reached up and caressed her cheek gently.
Carefully he moved Caitlin’s hand to his chest letting it rest over the strap of his harness, where it crossed over and held him mercilessly in its grasp. Caitlin hesitated a moment before looking into James eyes once more. Her fingers reached for the clasp and unhooked it from its lock as she slid the leather straps from his body. Putting his harness aside with his other things, he wasted no time in pulling her back against him as his arms surrounded her waist once more.
Caitlin finally made a movement of her own as her hands moved up to James face, pushing a stray strand of his long dark hair back from his forehead. Once again James eyes closed as he had so longed to feel her hands touching his body, as they had touched him long ago.
“James.” She spoke softly looking down at him as she ran her fingertips through his hair as it seemed to be relaxing him so much. “You must rest. Your eyes look like someone filled them with sand. Your health is not going to last if you continue to stay up for days at a time.” She whispered softly to him.
“You have been made to stay in slumber more times then could be counted since I brought you here with me Caitlin. You have been much more ill then I. I do not think sleeping is an effective cure to all aliments.” Caitlin sighed softly keeping her fingers running through his hair slowly, soothingly.
“James, I’m sorry I’ve caused you so much anguish. It seems like my just being here is making the world turn against us.” Hook opened his eyes as he looked up at her, how could she even dream that any of these things were her fault?
“None of this has anything to do with you Caitlin; I want to make that clear. This world was against me long before you came to be by my side. Because I chose you to be here and not them, they make a contest out of us each and every day. This is no fault of yours and I do not wish to ever hear you utter such a thing again.”
Caitlin fell silent and nodded turning her eyes away from his as her fingers continued to run through his hair. Hook couldn’t help but sigh slightly at this as he closed his eyes and leaned his head forward to rest against her chest as before. Cat looked down at him and wrapped her arms around him as much as she could still feeling strange somehow, but wanting to comfort him. He seemed like he needed it so much right at this time. All at once James lifted her from her feet and laid her down on the bed laying over her as his head continued to rest against her chest. This was how he chose to sleep, holding his love tightly in his arms and listening to her heartbeat. Soon, he fell deep into sleep.
Later that night, the door of Liam’s quarters was opened and James entered suddenly carrying a piece of parchment with him. Close behind him was the first mate Smee with a large box in his arms. Liam stood from his bunk watching this scene not entirely sure what was going on. Once Smee set the box down on the doctors table, James tossed the parchment down on top of it.
“It seems there is still a use for you after all. Mix this pharmaceutical immediately.” Following orders at this particular moment in time, when any sort of visit from the Captain resulted in some sort of assault or beating, was not really something Liam felt like doing. He just starred at the Captain for a moment, and his curiosity was what prompted him to pick up the paper and read what was written on it.
“What does this mixture do Capt’n?” He inquired not being familiar with this particular mix of ingredients.
“See that it is matched to these specifications exactly.” Liam gave a sigh, there was a time when Hook would give him all the details of a situation and then ask for his advice. Somewhere along the way he had lost that particular duty, most likely Jealousy being the main culprit.
“Capt’n, you can’t give this to yer misses. Ye have no idea how delicate and fragile she is right now. Most women with child are, but she’ll be even worse considering everything her body has been through.” He said trying to tell him that if she was give the wrong things or treated too roughly that it would result in a miscarriage.
“Did I ask for your opinion doctor? Strange, I do not recall doing so at any point in the duration of this visit. Perhaps you require a night in the brig to consider your options.” He said looking at the doctor who just became quiet realizing it was useless to try and tell Hook anything. “Mix the damn items according to the directions I have given you, or you shall find your precious living conditions even more unlivable then they are at this moment.”
With that, James turned and exited the room. Smee gave the doctor a look that said ‘don’t screw up this time’ before hurrying out after the Captain. Liam sighed as he heard the door being locked and barricaded as usual, and wondered slightly if this was how he was to spend the rest of his days; locked in a room by himself. Picking up the paper he shook his head slightly. The use of his medical books would have been most welcome right about now. That way he could know exactly what the purpose of this drug was.
Liam didn’t care for James having her as his. Nor did he approve of the methods in which he made her his wife. But even so, it was unlikely he would want to harm Caitlin, he seemed to want her with him so much and would do anything at any cost to see that she was. Putting down the parchment he opened the box and began to pull out the things that had been gathered and brought back to the ship, looking at the instructions as he went.
With the scars that he had seen, he wasn’t entirely sure how she would fair carrying this child. The fact this was Neverland was yet another issue that would have to be looked into before this progressed any further. He was doing all the research he could with the limited resources he had. Liam paused a moment, looking upwards towards where the Captain’s cabin would be located. He wondered if she had been told yet, and wondered how she had reacted to such news. He had seen her with that lost boy “Red” and saw how much she had cared for him. Liam was certain that Caitlin would be extremely happy at the prospect of having one of her very own.
Onshore stood a small figure looking out towards the boat. A small redheaded boy who didn’t know which way to go, back to his brothers or back to the ship. He had been living and wandering around the island on his own since that strange day when everything seemed to fall apart and nightmares came true. Finally he had decided. He found a piece of hollow wood that floated extremely well, climbing into it he began to make his way to the ship as he had done a few times before. He wasn’t sure what he would find there but he wanted to see that lady again, he wanted to make sure that she was alright and say he was sorry for her being captured and treated so badly. Maybe she would hate him now and not want to see him. But he had to find out, and this was the only way.
James gave a sigh as he and Smee walked out on deck, “Whatever happened to the way things used to be Smee. All my crewmembers trembling with fear each time I stepped on deck, not daring to challenge me or look me in the eye if they could help it, even Pan continued to play a game that was not as life threatening as it has become. Is it possible that all of Neverland has become ill with itself?” He said not really looking for an answer.
“ ‘Tis what happens when a woman enters Capt’n. She has a tendency to bewitch men’s minds wither she gives them notice or not. Just her presence be enough to do it.” James’ steps slowed as he turned and looked at his first mate a moment. Smee came to a halt not reading Hook’s face as well as he usually could trying to keep his knees from buckling at the prospect that he might have just upset the Captain. However, a moment later James turned away and started walking back towards his cabin. Smee gave a huge sigh of relief once the captain was starting up the stairs. It had been a while since he executed anyone, and he had a feeling that it wouldn’t be too much longer before someone else died. Something about the captain required death on a regular basis. At least that’s what Smee had suspected for a long time. It always seemed as if the killing of any problem that arose was just Hook’s way. Yet if this were so, Liam would be dead, and countless times Smee would have joined that fate.
It was certain that the Captain had not gone soft, and it was almost as if his very soul fed on carnage itself. Smee was the one person who knew him a bit better then anyone else, even Caitlin. The side that Smee was used to seeing was the Captain’s hateful and malice filled side, which killed everything that opposed him and had a tendency to become obsessed with certain ventures. This was the side he had seen, and he had adjusted to, and could usually tell what was going to happen with the Captain next.
All of Neverland was quiet tonight. The only sound that could be heard was the song of crickets coming from the island, and the sound of water lapping against the hull of the ship. It was, needless to say, an extensive clam before the storm of massive proportions hit.
