Hook’s Wendy
(Chapter Fifty-Eight)
Caitlin sat quietly out on the deck looking up at the stars. Some seemed brighter then the others and she knew for certain that things where different in this sky then the one she used to live under. It was getting a bit late and the only ones left on deck where Mr. Smee, Cat, and the first watch of the night. There was a warm breeze sweeping over the deck of the Jolly Rodger and she closed her eyes taking a breath of the warm sea air.
“I would have to say it is one of the loveliest nights we’ve experienced in quite some time.” Caitlin heard James voice coming from behind her and she turned, her eyes going wide. The wound to his head was gone. Completely and without a trace; as if it had never even existed in the first place. Hook smiled as he walked up beside her and looked down at her. “A perfect night for renewing old vows, and making new ones.” He moved to sit down next to her and looked into her eyes.
The reason he had asked her to wait for him on deck was clear as he had taken the time to clean and groom himself from head to toe. He shaved, bathed, and his hair was even tied back out of his face. “James . . . you look . . .” Caitlin still couldn’t believe the incredible change from when she had seen him just a short time ago, how strong he had gotten and how healthy he looked. “. . . absolutely . . . wonderful.” She said in stunned amazement. He chuckled and reached for her hand with his own, raising it to his lips as he looked into her eyes once more.
“I feel absolutely wonderful.” Hook said gently kissing her hand. “And I have you to thank for it.” James looked up at her, a light shining in his eyes of pure happiness that Caitlin had never seen before and it was certain that no one else had either. Hook’s eyes shifted up towards the sky, looking at the stairs and the bright glow of the moon as it flooded the deck of the ship with light. “I dreamt about you whilst I slept. I heard your voice calling me back into the land of the living.” Cat watched him as he spoke. It was as if he was a completely different and new man. Renewed in spirit and soul.
Caitlin smiled up at him, “I’m glad James. As I sat beside you these past few days, you looked so ill . . .I thought I was losing you.” She looked down a moment as she continued. “I felt like half my heart was dying not being able to help you; not being able to do anything but watch you fade away.”
Hook chuckled, reached up and touching her face, “And leave you alone in this place? Aboard a ship of miscreants, delinquent’s that roam the island, thieves and murderers? I should think not. What sort of husband should I be if I abandoned you in such a fashion?” Slowly he let his fingers trace through her hair, tangling in the soft curls. “I would rather stay and declare to all that you belong to me, and I to you. For no man can say that he is as privileged as Captain Hook to have such a beauty at his side.”
Caitlin gazed into his eyes, finding a sort of relief and comfort knowing her heart for certain now. Knowing that she did indeed love him, things had been made so clear and confusion no longer clouded her mind. His words were always so full of poetry and feeling, even before now she could feel the power he held in his words. Perhaps it was one of the many reasons he was the Captain of the Jolly Rodger and the leader of the pirates aboard.
“It is a lovely night indeed my beauty. But I think perhaps we should go inside, so as not to catch our deaths of cold.” He said with a grin, taking her hand. He placed a gentle kiss to her knuckles before standing and pulling her to her feet. “They should be about finished by now.” Caitlin looked up at him curiously.
“Finished?” She asked wondering what he meant and whom he was talking about. He just chuckled and led her back to their cabin doors. He paused a moment looking into her eyes yet again.
“These past many months have been quite difficult on the both of us Caitlin. There is no doubt in my mind that you have suffered the most out of the two of us, but perhaps it was all for a reason of some kind. Perhaps now things will become easier and any secrets that were left hidden between us . . . will find their way to the surface and we may forgive each other for staying silent.” James was trying not to think about the things he knew and the difficulties that were going to come when it was time to tell her, but he pushed it aside for now. Not tonight, they need not concern themselves about such things tonight. It was their night, and their time to be together.
Turning towards the doors, he twisted the handles and pushed the doors wide open to let her enter first. Caitlin’s eyes went wide when she stepped inside the Cabin. There were rose petals everywhere. Red and white pedals over the floor and over their bed, flowers surrounding most of the cabin giving off the most pleasant fragrance. She stepped inside slowly, in shock and aw of the sight before her. Where on earth had all of these flowers come from? James stepped in behind her and closed the doors pulling the lock tight so they wouldn’t be disturbed.
“James . . . how did you ever . . .” she breathed in amazement. Hook took her hand and pulled her to him.
“It does not matter my love. What matters is that all of these are for you. Everything I have, everything that is in my power to give, I give to you. Caitlin . . you do not know how long I have searched for you. Not your body, not your personality . . . something deeper, something that cannot be seen just to look at you.” He said softly touching her chest gently with his hook. He hated touching her with that cold vile thing, but he only had one hand and not much choice. He did not wish to let her go for even a second. “It is here, in your heart. Something that forgives transgressions and looks past huge faults.” Caitlin listened to his words which seemed to have a sort of ghostly sound to them. Almost as if he was looking into her soul as he gazed deep into her eyes. But she wasn’t afraid. “You are everything to me Caitlin. I have tried to tell you so many times how I have loved you. How I have worshiped the ground that your feet grace with it’s touch as you walk upon it.”
It was if he had more to say but the words failed him. James reached up touching her face, as he had grown so fond of doing, feeling the soft warmth of her beautify skin, so pleasant to the touch. Caitlin reached up placing her hands on either side of his face as tears began to fill her eyes. “James . . .” She whispered in a soft voice, “I love you.”
Caitlin wrapped her arms back around him holding him tight as she kissed him deeply, almost hungrily. Hook wrapped his arms around her body, careful to mind his metal appendage as he pulled her against him, returning the kiss. Aurora leaned up looking over the rafters above seeing the two standing together in the candlelight. She was surprised to see a bright glow beginning to form deep within the Captain and leaned up a little further as her wings flitted a few times.
James held her tighter against him as he could feel a warmth and pleasure more intense then any other he had felt in his lifetime. Aurora watched in amazement as a strange sort of magic seemed to arise in the Cabin and a swirl of warm wind surrounded them, blowing the rose petals up around their bodies like waves crashing on the shore. Caitlin could feel it too and pulled back slightly, looking up into James’ eyes. Hook held her tighter still as the light grew brighter.
“James?” Caitlin whispered a little worried as she looked at him. All at once James was unable to hold her any longer and his arms opened and his head threw back as a beam of bright light seemed to shoot out from within him up towards the sky. Aurora’s eyes went wide as she watched.
All the men on deck stood and stared in awe of the sight before them. Smell and Liam looked at each other for a moment before their attention turned back to the pillar of light. All of Neverland was witness to the same sight. The fairies in their hollow, the lost bodies in their hide out, all the Indians, even the mermaids below the water. Every last living thing in this world stopped and stared at the bright light that came from the pirate ship.
Peter watched as well, sitting in one of the tallest trees on the highest branch looking towards the ship. He had been thinking for a while about what the Indians had told him, thinking of how his game could be finished and how everything might go as was planned. His thoughts were interrupted when the bright light appeared and he stood up looking towards it.
A few moments after, a hard shock wave that seemed to spring forth from the Captain’s cabin shook all of Neverland, knocking any who stood on their feet to the ground; including Pan who almost fell out of the trees. Picking himself back up he looked towards the ship against and the light faded before finally disappearing all together. “That’s it.” He whispered as a grin swept his face. “That’s is how we shall finish out this game and how she shall pay for all she has done.” He laughed feeling quite clever and quickly flew out of the tree heading back towards the Lost Boys hide out to make arrangements for his newest plot.
“James? Are you alright?” Caitlin whispered looking up at him as she reached out and placed her hands on his chest. “James? Please say something? What happened?” She said worriedly. Hook took a deep breath as a huge grin swept his face, wrapping his arms around her waist. He lifted her into the air and started spinning about with her as if he had never known a greater joy then what he was feeling right now. After another moment, he slowed his movements and they fell together to the ground, but his arms never once left her body.
“Oh my love, my life.” He whispered embracing her tightly. “Alright, does not even begin to describe how I feel.” Caitlin smiled as she placed her hands on either side of his face and they kissed passionately. James eagerly kissed her in return, running his hand down the length of her back, enjoying the feel of her warm body pressed against his.
Feelings and passion were growing quickly between the two and James gently released her and pushed her back slightly, taking a few deep breaths to calm himself. Caitlin looked into his eyes. “What’s wrong?” She whispered. He reached up touching her face once more as he had done so many times.
“Nothing my darling, everything is perfect and as it should be.” He said softly, running his fingers through her hair. His eyes wondered over her fair features as he spoke softly, “There was another . . . who was not part of this world. Pan had brought her here to become a mother to he and his band of lost miscreant brethren. Her name was Wendy.” Caitlin listened intently as he spoke.
“It was a long time ago . . . years and years before you came to be with me. Pan used her against me in more ways then I am sure even he could imagine.” Caitlin felt her heart sink slightly at that news. “It was her that made me realize . . . I too was lost. As Pan had said . . . Old, Alone, and done for.” A twinge of sadness could be heard in his voice that made Cat’s heart ache for him.
She reached up taking James’ hand in hers as she held it tight against her heart. “But you’re none of those things James. Not one.” Caitlin looked deep into his eyes. “I’m with you, now and always. I will never leave you, and nothing anyone can tell me, anyone can say will ever turn me away from you.” She said with pure sincerity.
Hook smiled looking down at her. NO other in his life who knew him half as well as she did, thought anything good of him much less cared for him. Here she was, loving him and wanting to be with him for all time. Caitlin reached for his arm and grasped his hook as she carefully unlocked it from it’s seat and removed it. James watched her intently, there was something strangely arousing about letting her remove his hook in such a way. She had done it many times before, and she was the only one allowed to do so without his permission.
It seemed to be symbolic somehow. Perhaps it was in the reality that with it removed, he was much more vulnerable then any other man. One hand instead of two. Even though he was incredibly skilled with several forms of weaponry, other men had two hands to defend themselves with. Caitlin was the only one he would ever let this close to him, and it was only she that he would let disarm him.
When she put his metal appendage aside, James took her hand and stood helping her to her feet. Hook placed a gentle kiss to her lips before turning her slightly so he stood behind her. He touched her shoulder gently before placing a few kisses along the line of the dress she wore. His fingertips moved up the line of her dress to her side before moving around to her abdomen. “Do you trust me Caitlin?” Hook whispered into her ear.
“Of course I do, James.” She answered. He chuckled a bit as his fingertips started to pull the ribbons lose that held her dress about her body. His other arm wrapped about her as well now, pulling her against him as he began to caress and kiss her neck, his warm breath touching her skin. He found her lips once again and kissed her deeply before sweeping her up into his arms and carrying her over to their bed.
The next morning, James lay beside Caitlin, watching her sleep. She looked absolutely radiant in every sense of the word, a true treasure. More than any pieces of gold, silver, rubies, emeralds, or even diamonds that were aboard the ship, he wouldn’t trade a moment of time with her for all the swag in the world. A smile tugged at the corner of his mouth as she moved slightly and a golden curl fell across her eyes. Reaching up slowly, he carefully moved it from obstructing his view, and tucked it back where it belonged, letting his fingertip slowly trace down the side of her face.
As he gazed at her beauty, so many thoughts entered his mind. What was there to do now? He had thought more on his idea to build her a house on shore with rooms. A massive bedchamber with tapestries lining the walls and satin sheets for her lovely body to lie upon. Of course she would be able to stay wherever she would like. Whether it be on shore, or in his cabin on the ship or even both if she wished it. She was a lady, and she deserved more than what he had given her thus far. The night they had spent together was more wonderful than any he could have imagined for them. Spending hours upon hours making love to each other in the candlelight, holding one another tight against each other.
Hang Peter Pan. What did he need of Pan any longer with such an angle as this laying by his side? He was merely a foolish boy who wanted to play with swords and daggers, and try to outwit his betters on a daily basis all in the name of ‘fun’ and ‘adventure’. It had been an eternity since James had been afforded the pleasures of an adult. He enjoyed them immensely, and did not wish to give them up any time in the future. Pan would just have to get along without him for quite some time.
Hook leaned over her and gave Caitlin a gentle kiss to her forehead before carefully removing himself from her side. Making sure that she was still covered by the sheet to keep her from catching a draft that might wake her from her slumber.
Not long after, he emerged from their cabin on the deck of the Jolly Rodger. He took a deep breath of the warm sea air and let it out slowly. Smee was passing by when James grabbed his arm. “Good morning Mr. Smee. It’s a glorious day is it not? Never have I seen such a bright glow of sunshine crash upon the shores of Neverland. It is days like this that make me not mind being held captive here as much.” Smee blinked a few times, starring at the Captain.
“Are ye . . . uh . . .feelin’ alright . . . .Capt’n?” James looked at Smee as if he had no idea what he was talking about, and as if this was how he awoke every morning.
“Well of course I am. What a silly question Mr. Smee. You would think I held the face of death or something similar to the bringer of death himself. No, I am the picture of health man!” He said with a smile and a chuckle. “Now, my Lady has not yet awoken this fine morning and before she does I want a grand meal set before her. Strawberries, Strawberries are a particular favorite of hers. Large, ripe, red beauties. Be sure to set some of those out as well.” He said starting to step away.
“Uh . . .but Capt’n . . .we don’t have any aboard . . . not fresh ones anyway . . .” Smee said nervously, expecting to get an Iron Hook plunged into his neck for baring such unpleasant news.
“Well then I suppose that you should send someone ashore to get some! Come now Mr. Smee, I should hope that my first mate would be able to use his head more then he is letting on!” He chuckled as he turned and started down the stairs. Smee shook his head, wondering if he was still asleep and dreaming before quickly following after James.
“Did . . . .did ye have a pleasant evenin’ Capt’n?” Smee asked quickly wondering for an explanation as to his sudden change of demeanor. James stopped and turned looking at him with no expression for a moment.
“A pleasant evening?” He repeated as he looked at Smee. The nervous first mate took a step back thinking perhaps he had just crossed some line. All at once, James grinned and leaned towards him, “My dear man . . . pleasant evening . . . would not even begin to appropriately address it. If I did impart such words to you to try and make such a feeble mind as yours understand, I would make the angels weep and the saints all gasp for air!” He said giving Smee a hard back on the shoulder before turning and hopping down the stairs as if he were no older then a boy of 16. Smee shook his head watching the Captain before quickly attending to his duties.
Hook headed to the bow of the ship and looked out over the waters. It really was a wondrous day. He could never remember feeling so alive. Perhaps he had at one time, but he could not remember and he doubted it very much. It was her, her who was his shining star, she who had been his savior and the one who had given him reason to go on living day after day.
“Have ye told her Capt’n?” A voice said coming from behind Hook. James recognized it instantly, and to say the least it was not a voice that he wished to hear. His smile dimmed a bit. Not today of all days.
“Doctor, if you do not mind, I am in the most magnanimous mood this day I I would rather it not be ruined by your lack of wisdom when it comes to marital matters between myself and my Lady.” Liam walked a few steps closer.
“Marital matter? Capt’n . . .she’s gonna start noticin’ rather soon that she’s gain’ weight . . . ye must tell her . . .ye can’t . . .” James spun around starring at Liam. Why did there always have to be some sort of voice of doom to rain down upon him when such wonderful things happened. Did the universe object to him having one day of happiness?
“HOLD YOUR TONGUE! You insolent swine!” James roared spinning around and starring a death glare at the doctor. “You are quickly out living your usefulness and are becoming more of a bothersome pest then you are worth.” Hook took a deep breath trying to regain his good mood before he did something that might also interrupt Caitlin’s good mood as well. “I will deal with it my way, in my own time. I will remind you that it does not concern you no matter how much you wish it to! SO keep your suggestions, your comments, and your nagging words to yourself or I shall make good on the sentence you were pronounced before.”
Liam clinched his jaw starring at James. He hated this, he hated him, and he hated himself for not having courage to face death and tell Caitlin the secret that was being kept from her. It wasn’t fair to her that he should know such a thing about her and choose to keep it from her. It was her body and it was her dream. The doctor turned and left James alone with his own thoughts.
Hook growled as he looked out back towards the sea. The baby. Always, ALWAYS it came back to the problem of the baby. He had decide to get rid of it a long time ago, but he kept putting it off for some reason. Perhaps he wasn’t sure whether or not he wanted to remove it from her in such a horridly sneaky fashion. It would be inhuman and indecent to say the very least.
Hook took a breath as he looked out towards the water once again. “I must tell her. She has always been honest with me, from the first day she came here to this place. I have been nothing but false in so many different aspects. I must make amends for my actions whatever the consequences might be.”
“James!” Caitlin’s joy filled voice shattered the silence as she came up the stairs to the forward deck. James smiled and turned to meet her. She ran to his arms and embraced him tightly. “Good morning! I expected you to still be there when I woke.” She said with a grin as she looked up at him.
She had bathed and groomed herself completely in the short time he had been away from the cabin, anxious to go out and find him. He wondered if he had closed the doors to roughly and the sound had woken her from her dreaming. “I was for sometime my darling, but I wanted to come out and enjoy this absolutely magnificent morning. I thought I would let you rest.” Caitlin looked up into his eyes still beaming. A mischievous grin crossed James face as he leaned down and rested his forehead to hers. “And remembering the events of last night, I expected you to be quite fatigued.”
Caitlin’s cheeks began to blush at his words as she looked way from him. Hook chuckled at her reaction and leaned down kissing her lovingly. “It’s a glorious day.” He whispered to her never wanting to release her from his embrace again.
