Being as it was dark out, the scenery was a monotone of blacks outside of the headlight beams. It was pointless looking out the window, but one glance in the rearview mirror proved to Edward that that was exactly what everyone with immediate access to a window was doing. Even Severus, riding shotgun, was studiously glaring out into the bleakness beyond the passenger-side window.
Eventually, the dark, quiet country gave way to bright, loud city. Edward maneuvered along the streets until he hit the bad side of town. The darker side. After a few more minutes, he pulled over, letting Jean-Claude out. Wouldn’t do to have witnesses see the vampire show up with the rest of the group. The display of he and the elf would be completely ignored.
Kendra was surprised to find out that a club on this side of town offered valet services. But it did. The valets, all dressed in matching mesh muscle shirts and hot pants, offered assistance as everyone exited the SUV. Kendra was severely impressed. Why had she never come to this club before? She decided to rectify that problem. Maybe she’d come every weekend. Wouldn’t Severus adore that? She silently snickered.
Inside, the club was hot, loud, and in full swing. All manner of beasts were there. One could spot shifters and weres, witches and wizards, vampires and humans, and anything else out for a good time, if they looked hard enough.
Oria grabbed Remus by the wrist excitedly. “Come dance with me!”
He reluctantly withdrew his arm. “I can’t. I’m here on business, remember?”
The younger Draconis gave him her pleading eyes. “Please?”
Sighing heavily, the wolfman shook his head. “I can’t.”
As sudden as anything, the girl’s look went from pleading to furious. “Fine. I’ll just go find someone who can.” With that, she turned on her heel and stalked off into the crowd in search of a dance partner.
Kendra gave one look to Severus and he scowled at her. “Do not even begin to think of asking me, woman.”
Scowling back, Kendra replied, “Fine. Looks like I’ll be finding myself a seat at the bar, then.” Looking the wizard up and down, she sneered. “And, since I won’t be having a good time, nor will you.” With that, she muttered something under her breath and walked off.
