Thank you so much for all the reviews! I'll be gone this weekend, but I should have more by Tuesday.
Jasper returned to school on Monday, much to my relief. I didn’t know if I could put up with any more of the blonde’s (yes, I forgot her name) blaming. He seemed less sullen than when I had first met him, and more responsive to the people nearby, though he still avoided talking to anyone in the class except me. I hate to admit it, but… I did an internal happy dance every time he did, and every time I caught sight of Blonde’s face when she was ignored. It’s mean, but I couldn’t help but feel happy that he was back.
At lunch, I didn’t hesitate to sit with Jasper, Edward, and Bella. They greeted me warmly when I took the seat next to Jasper’s.
“Is Lynn leaving you alone yet?” Bella asked.
“Who?” I returned. She stared at me incredulously.
“You really are bad with names, aren’t you?”
“I told you I was. Is Lynn the blonde who’s been giving me problems?” She nodded. “Not entirely, but I’ve been able to ignore her.”
“Has someone been bothering you?” Jasper asked.
“Well…she was, but it’s no biggie.”
“What did she do?”
“It’s nothing, I sw—”
“What did she do?” he asked again. Bella and Edward were staring at the two of us. I sighed in resignation.
“She blamed me for making you leave and gave me heck for it. It’s no big deal.”
“It is to me.” I touched his hand and smiled slightly.
“I swear I’m okay.” He nodded and squeezed my hand gently. I guess Edward was wrong about Jasper… But I don’t care. He pulled his hand back. I was saddened, but I understood why he did it. He didn’t want me to go through prejudices again.
By the end of the school day, I was extremely happy. Jasper met me at my locker and walked with me outside.
“Where did you park?” he asked.
“Um…I don’t drive,” I said sheepishly.
“You walk every day?”
“Yeah. My grandfather’s house isn’t far from here. I don’t mind walking.”
“Nonsense. I’ll take you home.” He walked towards the parking lot.
“Really, Jasper. You don’t have to.”
“I want to.” He opened the passenger side door to a dark blue Chevrolet Impala. I slid in, not arguing. After shutting my door, he slipped behind the wheel and pulled out of the parking lot.
I directed him to my house. It wasn’t large, just big enough for my grandfather and me. It’s also nestled back in the trees, much like the Cullen household.
“Thanks for the ride,” I said quietly.
“Anytime. I’ll be back in the morning to pick you up,” he replied.
“No, I can’t ask you to—” At his stern glance, I shut up. “Fine. I’ll be waiting.” He smiled at my acquiescence.
“I’ll see you, then.” He lifted my hand to his and kissed my knuckles. I thought my heart would stop. I must have looked out of it, since Jasper’s face turned concerned. “Whitaker? What’s wrong?”
“Sorry. I’m just a little dazed,” I replied, shaking my head to clear the fogginess. The look of concern disappeared.
“What dazed you?” I blushed.
“…You,” I mumbled. He smiled, kissed my hand again, and let me go.
“I’ll see you in the morning.” I nodded, escaping from the car and my golden-haired friend.
I waved Jasper off before turning back to the house. My grandfather was sitting in his rocking chair on the porch.
“Who was that?” he asked quietly.
“His name’s Jasper,” I replied. “He offered to give me a ride.” Actually, he insisted.
“Oh, so you remember his name. That’s good.”
“I’m working on it, Gramps.”
“I know. You’ve gotten better since… Well, you’ve gotten better.”
“Thanks.”
“So… Who is this…Jasper?”
“He’s the first person I made friends with.”
“Friends or…friends?”
“Um…Gramps… I mean no offense, but I’d rather not talk about that kind of thing with you. At least, not right now when I’m not even sure.”
“Very well. Just guard yourself.”
“I always do.”
Short, yes, I know... They'll get longer, I think, but not really long.
Zynda--Yes, his control is better, and I promise to continue 'Music'. :)
Clover--You'll just have to see, eh? lol
wickedwiccanofthemiddwest--I'll have more soon, I promise.
sking6999--Me, too. I have no idea where I'm heading with this... lol
Sora269--I'm young, but I'm old enough to be here, thankfully. Thank you very much for your pointers. If I could ask a favor, could you tell me where I messed up with the characters? I want to correct it. And...it's not that they have feelings yet...kind of a...mutual attraction? I'll try to describe things better. :) But I'm writing what Whitaker notices... (*whisper* He's not very perceptive. lol) And thank you, again. I like corrections. :D
TeamAlice--Yay. I like sweet fluffiness. :) I'll have more soon.
