I had just woken up, and I was already exhausted. “Little boy, you are absolutely draining Mommy out!” I patted my big bump.
“Good morning, love.” Christian walked by, already dressed and ready to go. It seemed like he had oodles more energy than I did. Couldn’t he spare some? I opened the doors to my huge walk-in closet and frowned as I slid each too-tight piece of clothing down the rail. “Hmph,” I groaned loudly, choosing a flowing top I’d worn about once a week for the last month. My peppy husband poked his copper-haired head in. “You okay, baby?” “Baby. I don’t even want to hear that word right now!” Christian came in and wrapped me in his arms. “Do you know what a wonderful job you’re doing, Ana? You are so strong, keeping our son happy and healthy while he grows. I love you.” I couldn’t help but smile, but then I caught sight of my familiar blouse and frowned again. “Christian, I am absolutely hideous!” I felt myself falling apart in hormone overdrive. “I’m fat and tired and nothing even fits me anymore!” I slumped down, blouse still in hand. Christian held me close on the carpeted closet floor. He had learned in the last few weeks just to let me have my frustrated, hormone-driven moments. “There, there, love,” he rubbed my back. “Do you want me to stay home with you today? You could just catch up on your rest. How does that sound?” I shook my head. “No, you need to go to work. I’ll be okay.” I stood up and prepared to throw on my sweatpants-like ensemble. Christian rose up, too, smoothing out his now-wrinkled suit. “Okay, babe, but if you need or want anything, just call me, alright?” I nodded and reached up to give my husband a peck. “Laters, baby,” he smiled and kissed me deeper. That night, I waited for the familiar turn of Christian’s key in the door. I was already in my pajamas, seeing as that was basically what my daytime outfit had looked like anyway. The day had picked up after I’d had something to eat and gained some energy, but every time I thought about the fact that I still had two months to go before the baby arrived, I just grew more depressed. I loved Blip, and most of the time I even enjoyed being pregnant, but these days I just didn’t feel quite like myself anymore. Christian finally arrived carrying a colorful shopping bag with him. “Good evening, love!” he called out to me, still peppy as ever. “Hi, babe,” I managed, as I cradled his neck in my arms. “Are you feeling better?” he asked. “Now that you’re here,” I answered honestly. I glanced down at the bag. I now recognized the logo from a chic maternity boutique nearby. Christian followed my gaze. “Yes, darling, this is for you.” “Christian, you didn’t have to do this.” It was a bit embarrassing that I couldn’t even shop for my own maternity clothes on my own. “You are more beautiful than ever, Ana, and I hated hearing you upset and calling yourself names this morning. I want you to see you the way I do, sexy and gorgeous and full with our child.” “Thanks, babe.” I took the bag in my hands. “How about a little fashion show while I grab some dinner?” Christian asked playfully. It sounded like the last thing I wanted to do right now, when I was already cozy in my pajamas, but he had gone to all this trouble for me. “Sure, babe,” I replied. I wasn’t about to make the trip up and down the stairs from my closet to the kitchen, so I waddled off to our downstairs bathroom to undress. I pulled out the first outfit. There were some ‘hip’ (as hip as spandex-top jeans could be, I suppose) maternity jeans with a pink empire-waist blouse. While part of me was grumbling on about having to do a maternity fashion show right now, the other part was sliding on my new jeans with ease and appreciating my first pair of pants that looked good, and were actually comfortable, in months! Once my shirt was on I hurried down the hall to show Christian, an extra spring in my step. He looked up from his dinner when he heard me. “Look at you!” he beamed. I turned to give him the profile look, placing my hands under my belly like they would in a magazine. Christian stood up from his seat to stand behind me and lovingly place his hands over mine. “Ana, you look wonderful!” he told me, and I felt his breath tingle against my ear. “I love you. Both of you.” He lovingly caressed my stomach. “Love you, too. Now off to the next outfit!” I called as I went down the hall again. This was exciting! Maternity clothes! That fit! And looked good! Oh, how I loved my Fifty Shades. Back in the bathroom, I dug the next few items out of the bag. There were some other pairs of pants and tops, and then a little black dress with a bow at the back. I decided I would put that on next. I looked at myself in the mirror, and I really was beginning to see what Christian saw. I had a little glow about me, and my bump was looking really round and cute in this dress. I proceeded down the hallway again. “Beautiful, Mrs. Grey. Just beautiful,” Christian beamed. “I’m glowing!” I couldn’t help but squeal. “I’ve been trying to tell you that, silly girl. I’m glad you finally see it for yourself. Look at that bump! I have never seen a more beautiful pregnant woman.” He shifted to get up and hold me again, but I didn’t want to keep disturbing his dinner after his long day, so I made my way to wear he sat instead. He seemed grateful, and lovingly kissed and rubbed my stomach. Off I went again towards the bathroom to see what was left. I continued pulling more clothes out, looking for the final piece I’d want to show off, but then caught sight of a little bag at the bottom that I hadn’t seen before. I opened the bag and found a small box inside. I was beginning to recognize these little boxes that always contained new charms for my bracelet. I opened it up excitedly to find an adorable little teddy bear charm. I found a place for it right next to the baby carriage and bounded out of the room. “Ana, you’re still in the same dress-“ Christian grew startled when he saw me coming towards him, faster than my usual pace these days. “I love it, Christian!” I called, swinging my wrist in the air to show off the bracelet. “Oh,” he smiled. “I was hoping you’d find that.” “A little teddy bear! It’s so cute!” “Yes, I saw it today while I was shopping. It reminded me of a little teddy bear that Grace gave me when I was adopted. I carried that thing everywhere; it always comforted me.” “Oh, Christian, you’ve never told me about your teddy before!” He smiled and rolled his eyes. I guess telling each other about childhood stuffed animals was not a necessity to marriage. “I love when you share things like that with me. I know our baby boy will bring us as much happiness as that little teddy brought to you,” I beamed. Christian was officially done with his much-interrupted dinner by this point, and we snuggled up on the couch, as had become our nighttime pregnancy ritual. I admired my new little charm once again. Each addition to the bracelet felt like Christian was sharing another piece of himself with me. Opening up about his childhood was a rarity, and I was glad that this little teddy bear made him think of fond memories from when he was a little boy. “What are you thinking about, baby?” Christian asked, kissing my cheek. “My little teddy,” I replied, giving the bracelet a shake. Then, a thought occurred to me. “Teddy!” I exclaimed. Gray eyes just looked down at me quizzically. “We could name our little boy Teddy! Theodore, I guess, but we would call him Teddy. Our sweet little Teddy bear.” “Teddy,” Christian repeated. Maybe I had spoken too soon. He had said that thinking of his teddy bear brought back happy memories, but maybe naming our child something that would remind him so much of his own childhood was pushing it a bit. “Theodore “Teddy” Grey. I like it!” I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. He liked it! Our little boy had a name! Christian placed his hands on my belly, which was hidden under the black maternity dress I had never taken off. “Teddy,” Christian called our son’s name. “Teddy,” he called again. I watched Christian’s hand move as Teddy gave a kick. “He likes it, too!” Christian proclaimed. I laughed at my husband and looked down at my charm bracelet once again, touching the little bear hanging from it. “Teddy.” Citation: *Some dialogue taken from Fifty Shades Trilogy by EL James; I do not own anything related to Fifty Shades- this is fanfiction only. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
