Sam Wells was thinking clearly without the drugs in his system. So the appearance of this ghost figure in his room was alarming. No one human was that pale, not even an albino. And the eyes were not right for an albino either. Sam sat up in the bed a second before he felt something loosely circling his throat.
“Tell me about Prince.” The ghost asked.

“Mr Chang, I have another deal for you.” Prince’s voice came over the speakerphone. “I’d like to secure the services of your associates in upstate New York. I’d like them to secure someone for me. And then hold that person in a secure location.”
“I can arrange that. I have a large network of associates. Would you want this person held locally or at a ‘remote’ location?” Chang asked.
“A remote location would be perfect. I will have $1 Million wired to your private bank account in Indonesia as a down payment. Another $2 million will be transferred when I have proof that the individual has been ‘acquired’. I trust these terms are acceptable?” Prince questioned.
“They are acceptable as long as you understand that we may have to charge for ‘expenses’.” Chang added. “I will contact my associates immediately.”

“Stanley I am going out for a walk. I can’t stand being cooped up in this place any longer. I’ll be back soon.” Xev said.
790 was processing information from the Folcroft computer system and also monitoring the surveillance cameras that had been installed last week on the recommendation of Smith. Since Remo and Chuin were convinced that Kai was the subject of a ‘study’ by Mr Gordons, Smith thought it was necessary to install all sorts of security measures.
790 watched as the four Asian men surrounded Xev and placed a cloth over her face. “Hmmm” he said watching her collapse obviously unconscious. The men picked her up and dumped her into the cargo compartment of a van before speeding away.
“One slut down, one idiot to go.” He said cheerfully before turning his attention back to processing the information from the computer.

“Kai, this is a trap.” Remo said.
“I am aware of that Remo, but Xev is in danger. I must go to protect her.” Kai replied. “Just make sure that Stanley is safe.” Kai requested as he left the room.
“You should go with him Remo. He acts as Master of his House. The coward, the head and the woman are his village. Just as we discount danger to ourselves to protect Sinanju, so Kai protects those that are his. We do not know what Gordons has planned. Perhaps it is time to show him the folly of poking a tiger with a sharpened stick. I will keep the coward safe.”

“Hello Xev.” Prince said from the enormous viewscreen. “So good of you to accept my invitation.”
“Prince.” Xev replied flatly.
“Now is that any way to greet an old and dear friend? Especially one you are helping.”
“I’m not helping you Prince, in any way.”
“Oh but you are, you see right now Kai is out looking for you. My associate Mr Gordons wants to know more about our Divine Assassin. So we took you and sent him a message telling him where to find you.
You can wipe that look off your face dear, he is not coming here. He’s going to a location chosen by Mr Gordons where he will be greeted by members of a local street gang. I think that Mr Gordons will gain quite a bit of information from this little encounter.”

Kai set the moth down on the pier. The warehouse was in a section of the waterfront all but deserted this time of night. “The message was clear that I must come alone.” Kai said.
“That’s why I’m going in the back door.” Remo said as they exited the moth.
“The most important thing is to get Xev out safely.” Kai said as he walked off toward the loading dock.
Remo watched Kai thoughtfully for a moment before placing his fingertips against the brick and scaling the wall as easily as he walked up a flight of stairs.
***
Kai counted 15 heartbeats inside the warehouse. None of the heartbeats belonged to Xev. Over the years he had learned and noted the exact rhythms of both Xev and Stanley’s heartbeats. Xev was not here, but those who were here more than likely knew where she was. He aimed and fired his brace watching the man’s body fall from the catwalk where he had been hiding. Kai walked forward out of the shadows.
““I have killed mothers with their babies. I've killed great philosophers, proud young warriors, and revolutionaries. I've killed the evil, the good, the intelligent, the weak, and the beautiful. I have done this in the service of His Divine Shadow and his predecessors, and I have never once shown any mercy. There is less mercy to be found this night. Tonight I kill for my own reasons.”
***
Remo watched as Kai advanced. Even Remo felt a chill run down his spine. Kai looked exactly like what he was, a walking corpse. Not the Hollywood shuffling ‘Night of the Living Dead” zombie, but like your dear old Aunt Harriet got up out of her coffin in the middle of her funeral intent on killing you.
There was no emotion. There was no attempt to mimic emotion. This was not the Kai that Remo had grown used to. This Kai was all about the body count.
The Asians attacked en masse. The one leading the charge was swinging a deadly looking machete. Kai never made any move to avoid it instead firing his brace. Three of the attackers fell dead including the one with the machete.
Another man charged forward with a sword thrusting it into Kai’s chest. Kai calmly fired his brace again dropping three more before pulling the blade out of his body and using it to decapitate two more.
Remo felt the change in air pressure behind him just before the reinforcements were on him. For Remo it was an eternity. The reigning Master of Sinanju drifted through them like the wind. Where he passed bodies dropped, dead before they hit the floor. Remo vaulted down from the catwalk to the warehouse floor just in time to watch Kai’s head tumble to the floor.
He turned to see that this gang still had some fight left in them. A half a dozen men now had semi-automatic weapons pointed in his direction. Not the smartest thing to do since Shiva wasn’t going to allow anyone to shoot his avatar.
“I am created. Shiva, the Destroyer. Death, the shatterer of worlds. What is this dogmeat that now stands before me?” Remo intoned.
The gang gave its answer in a hail of bullets. Bullets that never touched Remo, instead several members of the gang found themselves impaled on their guns. Realizing their mistake, the survivors turned to run only to find themselves facing Kai. Shock set in as the man stood there before them, head firmly attached to his neck when they had seen it tumble to the floor just minutes before. Kai grabbed the man closest to him. The brace fired. Remo touched the last man standing on the center of his chest in an almost gentle manner. Blood spewed from the man’s mouth as he collapsed. “Where is Xev?” Kai calmly asked his captive.
Remo looked around the space noticing that the copy machine that had been sitting in the corner was now gone. “Gordons.”
