Chapter Six:
Ash settled against the bed, focusing on the curve of Mary-Lynnette’s cheek as she snuggled into the pillow beside him. She sleepily reached for him, still not fully awake, and his lips curved in a gentle smile as he watched her eyelashes flutter before she opened her eyes to look at him.
“Hey,” she mumbled.
He lifted his hand and spanned his fingers across her face before slipping them into her hair, cupping the back of her head. “Are you feeling better?”
She paused to think, her eyes rolling up to the ceiling as she assessed herself mentally. “I won’t cry if that’s what you’re worried about.”
“You threw up.” He reminded her with a smidge of panic in his voice. Pulling his hand from her hair, he started caressing his fingertips over her eyebrows, her temple, her jaw, until finally he landed on her lips. He swallowed and lingered at the corner of her mouth, focusing intently on the succulent curve of her bottom lip. “I don’t like you getting sick. It worries me.” He finished and hummed in approval as she kissed the pad of his thumb. He leaned forward, capturing her lip between his sharp teeth and suckled at her bottom lip enthusiastically.
She pulled away and gave him a reassuring half smile. “Technically, nothing came up,” she said, dodging him as he went to kiss her again by pushing herself against him into a full body hug that allowed her face to be cradled between his neck and shoulder.
He gave her a warning squeeze. “Let’s not get technical then. Do you feel better? Do I need to get you anything, like some soup or a midwife? Do you want me to rub your…” He paused, his head cocking to the side as he frowned before continuing, “hell, I’ll rub whatever you want me to rub.”
She let out a muffled grunt of laughter and placed a kiss against his neck. Trailing kisses up to his throat, she scraped her teeth against his jaw, licking as she went down. “You’re so dirty,” she whispered. Her lips brushed against his cheek and just as she was about to bite his cheek she remembered what he’d said and stiffened when she realized what he’d offered. “Why—ahem—why would I need a midwife?”
The panic in her voice forced Ash to back off, his hands brushed down her shoulders soothingly, but he set her further away from him. He didn’t need her panicked. It would be bad for the babies. “Why would you need a midwife?” Ash could’ve won an Emmy with his nonchalant laugh he delivered. “It was a joke, Baby,” he said, patting her on the shoulder he’d just been caressing.
She heaved what he thought was a relieved sigh, but the frightened look on her face contradicted everything. “You know, don’t you?” She whispered brokenly, tears welling in her eyes. When his shoulders drooped she jerked from the bed, her hands holding her head.
“Mare-” he started, lifting himself from the bed like a stretching cat. “Please, calm down.”
“How do you know?” Her sobs wracked through her body and just as quickly she turned towards him, stopping her manic pacing. Pulling at his arms, she brought him down to her eye level, forcing him to hunch down. “Are you angry with me?”
Ash frowned feeling incredibly puzzled over her reaction and shrugged simply. “I wish you would’ve told me sooner, but I’m not angry. Excited, nervous…horny!” He gave an amused laugh and placed a chaste kiss against her unsmiling lips. “I’m not angry. Far from it.”
He pulled her into his arms and she tucked her cheek against his chest. “How do you know?” she asked curiously.
Ash swept his hands up and down the curve of her back soothingly as he spoke against her ear. “Baby, I’m in tune with you. I knew before you did.”
She snorted in disbelief and dropped her arms from around him. She smacked his chest playfully. “You are such a liar.”
His classically handsome features never shifted from the serious expression as his ever changing eyes focused on her face. He stood completely still before her, eyeing her. Sometimes she found it hard to believe he wasn’t human, other times, like in that moment, she found it hard to believe he could pass for human. And she was attracted to both sides.
Tears streamed down her face and she walked towards her bag sitting next to the nightstand to pull out a hair tie. Pulling her wildly curly hair into a ponytail, she turned in search of her suitcase, suddenly wanting desperately to get into her pajamas.
“Mare?”
“You should’ve told me,” she said, sniffling.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” She yelped with surprise as he spoke closely behind her.
Her face flamed with embarrassment as he swept her ponytail to the side of her head so he could rest his face against hers. She wanted to hide and just ignore what was coming. “I thought you wouldn’t want me anymore.” It had been more than that, she’d voiced her other worries, but this had been the one she’d worried about most.
He squeezed her body and her mind, letting her know he’d opened the soul mate link between them. It had felt like a little pop in her ears and the bluish pink haze clouded her mind. Sparks shot between them as he slid his hands down her arms to thread his fingers with hers, lifting their hands up to pull close to their bodies. “That will never happen,” he said breathlessly.
Normally Ash kept the soul mate link closed between them because it was so powerful. Occasionally he would open it, but it had been a while. She let her eyes flicker shut as she rested her back against his chest and tilted her head to the side, exposing her neck to him. She watched from her peripheral vision as his pupils dilated. “Even when I’m fat, swollen, and extra grouchy?”
He darted his tongue out, following the artery that held the most blood flow, licking up. He trailed kisses back down and stopped at the juncture of her shoulder blades to nuzzle his nose into her skin. “Especially then.”
Ash tugged at her shirt, moaning as he licked and nipped her. “Mare,” he breathed with pleasure and let enough space pass between them to remove her shirt.
He flipped her around, divesting her of her bra, quickly bending to capture her breast in his mouth. Her breath caught and her hand settled in his flight rumpled, sandy colored hair. He directed her towards the bed and laid her down, but was too scared to lie on top of her so he knelt by her side, leaning over her to nibble every inch of her flesh.
“Damn, you’re sexy.” The growl rumbled through his chest and lodged in his throat as his body shook with need. It had been too long. “Mare, Mare,” he chanted pleadingly, petting her for encouragement to continue. “Please baby.”
She pulled him down to kiss him, which was slightly awkward given the position at her side, but instead of deepening the kiss she stopped him with her hands against her chest.
“I don’t want to cause any damage…you know? Wait until after tomorrow, then we’ll find out.”
His heart sank, but his cock roared with outrage, demanding he take her anyway. “What’s happening tomorrow?”
“Poppy’s got this spell she’s going to do tomorrow. We’ll know for sure then and if they’re healthy. Did I tell you I think we might be having twins?”
Ash tensed slightly. “I know. We are. There are three healthy heartbeats, that is including yours and I’m not sure I want an uninitiated witch performing a spell on my expecting soul mate.”
Mary-Lynnette shrugged. “What could go wrong?”
He stilled. “Did you really just ask that?”
“What?” she asked incredulously.
“Those are famous last words before hell breaks loose.”
She let out an amused, guttural giggle before biting her lip and sliding her hands up her stomach. “Don’t be over dramatic Ash.”
The little minx was using her hands to distract him. His eyebrows rose when her hands went even further up her body. “What are you—oh fuck—”
She grinned devilishly up at him as she clutched her breasts in each one of her hands, pushing the round freckled globes together. “I’ll hold them together for you,” she whispered. “Help me prop some pillows behind my head, I want to watch you fuck my tits before I suck you off.”
His eyes widened with surprise and he resisted the urge to knock a hand into his head to clear his thoughts. He loved it when she talked dirty, but this was a dirty talk of another color, at least for Mary-Lynnette.
“Baby! Take your pants off,” she demanded, pulling at the loop in the side of his pants. “You think you’re the only one horny. I’ve been dying too. My hormones are in overdrive! By the end of the night you’ll be on your knees Ash Redfern.”
He growled and ripped the material of his pants. “Oh I’m counting on it.”
Teaser of what’s to come…actually it was supposed to be in this chapter, but I cut it short so I could hopefully get an update out sooner this time around. I know the wonky magic was supposed to happen like two chapters ago, but it’s been pushed again, but will for sure be in chapter seven!
Chapter Seven:
“Why does she look like that?” Ash practically growled. “What did you do Poppy?”
The red head shrugged helplessly. “The first two spells worked fine. Two healthy children and this spell was supposed to give the sex of them, not make Mare look like an Easter egg. Of course it could mean ya’ll are having a boy and a girl. I’m just not certain.”
“She’s purple!” he cried out helplessly.
“I’ll go get Thea,” Poppy said before quickly darting out of the living room.
“I think this is okay,” Mary-Lynnette started. “I don’t feel different and I think I might be purple because blue and pink make a purple…I think. So that means we’re having a boy and a girl just like Poppy said. Right?”
“No! This is not okay. Didn’t I say? Didn’t I tell you she was uninitiated? What if something’s wrong? What if she did something? What if—”
Mary-Lynnette quickly walked up to him and silenced him with a finger pressed against his lips. “I feel fine, Ash. If something was wrong I’d tell you. Aside from the fact that I’m starving, everything has stayed the same.”
“You look like a purple oompa loompa, everything is not the same,” Ash growled.
