Thank you Lucinda, Kalima, and Engelina for keeping up with my story. I am not too sure how many chapters this is going to turn out to be since when I originally posted it the chapters were ridiculously short and I am having to change some of the dialogue to make the story flow a bit better.

Summary: Lilly a witch saves a were-panther then finds she is the mate to his brother.

Author's note: When mind speaking it is denoted ‘dialogue’. This was my first story. This is based in the wonderful world that author Sherrilyn Kenyon has created.

Chapter 7

After spending the morning with Rian, Sela, and the children Lilly became restless.
Sensing her restlessness Rian asked, “Lilly is something wrong?”
Lilly sighed, “I have never spent so many days inside. I think I am having a case of cabin fever.”
Rian nodded in understanding and offered, “Why don’t you have Miles take you outside? We have a garden off the main kitchen.”
Lilly arched a brow and asked, “It would be safe? I mean, Lucan seems concerned for me, why else is Miles guarding me?”
“You are new here. There are a few in our pack who would taunt you or even try to harm you for being Lucan’s mate. Should you decide to stay you would be introduced to the pack and Lucan can tell you who to avoid. They rarely come up to the main house.”
“A walk in the garden sounds great,” Lilly said, already heading towards the door.
On the way to the garden Lilly observed Miles. She sensed goodness in him but saw a sadness that never quite left his eyes. She thought of how much Lucan must trust him for putting him in charge of guarding her. “Are you related to Lucan?” she asked.
Miles looked towards Lilly, “Not by blood, but he is as close to a brother that I have.”
“How long have you known him? He must trust you a lot.”
“I’ve known him for about fifty years. He saved my life and brought me back here and let me join the pack. I owe him everything,” Miles said with feeling.
That was when Lilly’s cell phone rang.
Lilly took her phone out of her pocket and answered, “Hello?”
“Lilly I want that panther!”
“Edward I…” that was when Lilly heard Isabella upset in the background, “What is wrong with Isabella?”
“Nothing yet but if you don’t hand over the cat she could have an accident.”
Lilly was furious and yelled into the phone, “You wouldn’t dare! I can’t believe you are acting this way! Anyways, the panther is dead. He died in the middle of the night.”
“I don’t believe you. I want the panther.”
“Edward I am telling the truth.”
“Then we want the body, if he is dead than there is no reason not to give him to us.”
“Edward, I already made arrangements to take care of his body. Besides I don’t want you to mutilate him,” Lilly said, trying to control her emotions.
“Lilly I am going to give you an hour to decide. If I don’t hear from you then Isabella will die.”
After Edward hung up Lilly stood there for a few moments just staring at her phone. She just couldn’t believe Edward would be so cruel. But after the past few days she knew he would do what he threatened.
Miles had heard everything that Edward said and was concerned, “Lilly are you okay?”
Lilly looked into Miles eyes and pleaded, “Miles you need to get Isabella to safety.”
“Lilly I can’t. We must talk to Lucan. He would have my hide if I took you away from the house,” he said, knowing that Lucan would be furious to say the least if he left Lilly unprotected and there was no way he was taking her away from the safety of the house.
Lilly knew that Lucan wouldn’t take her. He would insist going without her and she must do this, Isabella was her responsibility. Lilly hated to use Miles but she knew she had no other choice. Gathering her powers she pinned Miles to the wall and blocked his ability to call to Lucan.
“Miles now you see how strong I am but I don’t have the power to flash myself anywhere. I can astral project short distance but that won’t help now. I can take care of myself. If you don’t help me I will leave on my own and convince Edward to give me more time. I need your help. With you I could be in and out without Edward even realizing it,” Lilly said, trying to convince him to help her, knowing that it would be very difficult without his help.
Miles was caught. He knew Lucan would kill him if he helped Lilly but knew he would give him a slow death if he didn’t protect her. He was strong but Lilly’s magic was stronger and he had no doubt that she would leave on her own. He only had one choice.
“Okay Lilly but you will do everything I say,” Miles said reluctantly.
Letting him loose, Lilly showed him the lab with her mind. He would flash them into a storage room and they would make their way from there. Arriving in the storage room, Lilly and Miles paused to listen for sounds outside in the hallway. After making sure no one was there Lilly and Miles made their way to the room Isabella was in. Looking thru the window in the door they saw no one in the room with Isabella.
Seeing no one in sight Lilly looked to Miles and said, “Okay, there is a window and door on the other side of the room to the lab. I don’t see anyone in there. I will go and get Isabella and come back to the door and you can flash us out of here.”
“Be careful Lilly,” Miles whispered as he placed a hand onto her shoulder.
Lilly smiled up at him, “I will.”
Opening the door quietly, Lilly was half way in the room when Edward came in thru the lab.
“Well, well, what do we have here? I knew you were going to show up but not so soon,” Edward sneered.
Lilly scowled at him, “Edward, leave Isabella out of this.”
“Lilly it is simple, give us the panther and we won’t hurt Isabella. And who is your friend?” Edward asked, nodding towards the door that led out to the hallway.
Before Lilly could answer she saw a movement out of the corner of her eye and on instinct used her powers to defend herself, sending the man that came at her across the room without even touching him.
Edward was shocked. He would never have believed it had he not seen it with his own eyes. “How did you do that?” he asked.
Lilly didn’t have a chance to answer because suddenly she felt a sting in her shoulder blade and the room started to spin.
With her mind, Lilly called to Miles, ‘Miles go, get Lucan. Tell him I am sorry.’
‘Lilly I can’t leave you,’ Miles stated, refusing to leave her.
‘Go now!’ Lilly yelled just before she pasted out.
Being hit by a dart, Miles knew he couldn’t get to Lilly in time so he swung around and made his way down the hall but not before being hit with another dart. Making it out of eye sight Miles flashed himself to Lucan.
Lucan grabbed Miles as he sank to his knees.
“Lilly, lab…” Miles gasped just before he passed out, turning into his panther form.
Lucan was scared. He tried to connect with Lilly but couldn’t. She was either unconscious or, well she couldn’t be dead, he would know. Lifting Miles up into his arms he flashed him to Rian’s room.
“Rian, what happened? Where’s Lilly?” Lucan demanded.
“She should have been with Miles. He was to take her out to the garden. What happened to him?” Rian asked, concerned.
“I don’t know. He’s been tranked. All he said before he passed out was Lilly’s name and lab. Why would he take her there without coming to me first? I can’t reach her,” Lucan said, trying to stay calm, although the beast in him demanded that he find his mate at once.
“I don’t know. No one has come onto our property or I would have known. I am better, I will go with you,” Rian said, coming towards Lucan.
Lucan shook his head, “No you aren’t. Anyways they will recognize you. They won’t hurt her, not yet. I will case the lab but I doubt they will keep her there. I will wait until she wakes to get her. I won’t take a chance on her life.”

Lilly woke up to darkness. It took her a moment to realize she was blindfolded and tied to a bed. Calming herself she sensed that she was alone.
Reaching out she touched Lucan’s mind, ‘Lucan...’
‘Lilly are you okay?’
Relief flooded Lilly. She knew she would be okay. Lucan wouldn’t let anything happen to her. ‘Yes I am fine. Miles, did he make it to you? Is he okay?’
‘Yes he made it to me. He is fine but won’t be when he wakes up.’
Lilly flinched when she heard him growl and the concern in his voice, ‘Lucan, don’t be angry with him. I used my magic against him. It was wrong but I needed to save Isabella. She is my responsibility.’
‘You should have contacted me Lilly. Don’t you trust me?’
Lilly could hear the hurt in his voice, ‘Of course I trust you. But I thought I could take care of this on my own. I underestimated Edward. I am used to taking care of myself.’
Using her powers, Lilly untied her bonds and sat up. Taking the blindfold from her eyes, she blinked at the light. The room spun and her head hurt. When she regained her equilibrium, she looked around and found herself in a bedroom. She didn’t know where she was but assumed she probably was on Nigel’s estate. She was sure that Isabella was still at the lab. Edward would not be able to take her out of there without a plausible reason. Getting up from the bed Lilly showed Lucan where she was and then she found herself in his strong arms. Lilly just stood there and soaked up his warmth.
Lucan was never going to let her go again. He was shaking, so relieved to have her safe in his arms. Not being able to stop himself he tilted Lilly’s face up and captured her lips in a punishing kiss. He needed to show her that she couldn’t take chances with her life.
Lilly tasted his fear, his anger. She drank in his energy like a beggar at a feast. Before she gave into her need of him she pulled away. This was not a place she wanted to stay in any longer. “Isabella is still at the lab I am sure. Edward must have put cameras in there. It is late. Only the night techs will be there. I need you to take me to get her. I know where we can take her where she will be safe.”
Knowing she would get into more trouble if he didn’t help her he agreed and flashed them to the lab.
Making their way to Isabella they made it into the room without being seen.
Lilly looked to Lucan with concern and said, “Lucan you said electricity can harm you, maybe you should stay out in the hallway. I have to disrupt the camera feed so I can get to Isabella.”
Agreeing Lucan waited outside and watched Lilly thru the window. Within minutes she brought Isabella out and he flashed them to where she showed him.
Looking around, he asked, “Where are we?”
“San Diego. We are at my old employer’s house. He is a good friend and will take care of Isabella,” Lilly said as she rang the door bell. When a middle aged man answered the door Lilly smiled, “Sam!”
“Lilly is that you?”
Handing Isabella to Lucan, Lilly ran into Sam’s arms. It has been over a year since she had seen him. He was the closest thing she had to a father. It was one of the hardest things she had ever had to do, leaving him without saying goodbye.
“Come in. It is cold out here,” Sam said and then led them into his living room. He couldn’t believe Lilly was here. He had never found out what happened to her. “Lilly where did you go and why did you leave without a word?” he asked.
Lilly winced when she heard the hurt in his voice, “Sam I am so sorry. I was in trouble. I couldn’t take a chance that you could be hurt. I can’t tell you everything now but I need your help. This is Lucan my… boyfriend and this is Isabella. I need you to take her and put her some where safe. In the zoo would be great. I think she would like to be with her own kind. I can’t stay but I promise to come back as soon as possible. I’ve missed you so much.”
After speaking for a few more minutes Lilly said goodbye to Sam and Isabella. After Lucan and Lilly walked outside and out of sight, Lucan flashed her back to Rian’s bedroom.
