Ok, maybe not Tuesday. I'm really sorry. I haven't been able to get ahold of a computer lately.
A/N: I forgot to tell you all something. Jasper in this story does not look like Jackson Rathborne from the movie (that is who played him, right?). Jasper in this story looks like what S.M. described: tall and muscular, but not as much as Emmett. In other words, Jasper's a bit bigger than he was in the movie.
Warning: There's a bit of violence in this chapter.
I tried to leave before Jasper arrived, because I really don’t mind walking, but he was at our house early. Plus, it was raining.
He raised a quizzical eyebrow and rolled down the window when I tried to sneak past him.
“Where are you going?” he asked.
“To school.”
“The car’s over here.”
“I know.”
“It’s raining.”
“I have a poncho.”
“I said I would take you to school.”
“I know, but you don’t have to.”
“You don’t need to walk in this rain, poncho or no poncho.”
“I’ll be fine.”
“Don’t make me get out of this car.” I sighed and sat in the seat beside him.
“Your car’s going to be wet.”
“Good thing it’s leather, then.”
“My grandfather says walking is good for me.”
“Then I’ll take you on a hike one day.”
“You’re being hard-headed, you know that?” He only nodded. “Why is it so important that I not walk in the rain?”
“…I don’t know. It just is.”
“Hmm.”
I had to run to the bathroom before lunch. I was washing my hands when someone hit my side, causing me to fall to the tile floor.
“What the—” I began, but stopped when I saw the figure towering over me. He had long, dark hair and a mean glint in his eyes. He was one of the football players.
“Lynn told me you were a faggot. After seeing the way you acted with Jasper yesterday, I knew she had to be telling the truth.” I was standing now, ready to defend myself. “I won’t stand a fag in my school.”
“So…is your last name Forks?”
“No…”
“Then you don’t own the school. It’s not yours, so you can’t tell me what to do. It’s a free country.” His fist connected with my stomach. The breath left my lungs in a whoosh of air just before his knee connected with my groin. I groaned and became reacquainted with the floor.
“I’m going to teach you that I rule this school, and you don’t make me angry.”
“Ok, Hulk.” He punched me in the face. I felt the cartilage in my nose snap and a sticky warmth cover my face; I was bleeding badly. “That’s right. Hit the downed man, you coward.” His arm reared back for another hit, and I closed my eyes in expectation of the pain, but it never came. Slowly, I opened my eyes. His face was turned away, but I could see the shock and fear. Just past him was Jasper, gripping the boy’s arm tightly with a mixed look of strain, anger, and pain on his face.
“Leave quickly before I’m forced to defend Whitaker,” he stated simply, quietly, menacingly. The boy nodded and left. Jasper turned to me and covered his mouth and nose, a stronger look of pain crossing his features. “Are you all right?” he asked softly, his voice muffled.
“Just peachy,” I managed to say. Carefully, I sat up and winced.
“Where did he hit you besides your face?”
“He punched my gut and kneed my groin.” A look of sympathetic pain flashed on his face.
“I’m sorry. I was walking by and I heard—”
“It’s fine. I had him where I wanted him,” I joked. Jasper helped me up, not laughing. He grabbed some paper towels, wet them, and gently cleaned my face.
“Hold still,” he said when I tried to move away. His voice sounded very strained and weak.
“I can clean myself up.” He pushed my head over the sink and handed me a clean paper towel.
“Hold that over your nose and stay leaned forward. That should stop the bleeding. Then, I’ll take you to the nurse.”
“Jasper, I’m fine. I’ve been through worse.” The muscles in his jaw tightened.
“I’ll be back in a minute. Stay there until you stop bleeding.” He left the room, then. I took shallow breaths, because it hurt to take deep ones.
When I threw the bloody towels away, Jasper reentered the bathroom. He wrapped my arm across his shoulder and helped me to the nurse’s office.
The nurse gasped when she caught sight of me. I didn’t think I looked that bad, but I suppose she thought differently. She immediately had me lie down on the cot in her office so she could check me over. I winced when she touched my ribs.
“What have you done to yourself, young man?” she asked sternly.
“I ticked off a football player,” I grumbled.
“Well, you’ll have to go to the emergency room for an x-ray. Those ribs could be broken or hopefully only severely bruised, but I can’t tell. I don’t have the right equipment.”
“I don’t wanna go,” I mumbled.
“Then you shouldn’t go around picking fights.”
“He didn’t pick the fight. He was accosted for no reason,” Jasper growled. The nurse gulped at his ferocity.
“You still have to go to the emergency room.”
“I’ll take him.”
“I can’t let you do that, Mr. Hale. I’ll have to be the one to take him. You head back to class while I inform the principal.” Jasper glared, but didn’t dispute her.
“Go on,” I said. “I’ll be fine. Like I said, I’ve had worse.” He nodded slowly. After the nurse stepped out of the room, he held my hand and kissed the back of it again.
“I hope it’s not serious,” he murmured.
“Try not to take your anger out on anybody, please. We don’t need anyone else going to the hospital.” He nodded and gave me a small, though still strained, smile. He squeezed my hand gently and left.
I've got another chapter I'll post ASAP.
Sora269--Thank you. :) I'll need to put up a warning for Edward's OOC-ness... There's a reason for him behaving the way he is. ;) It'll be a while for that explanation, though. And I'm going into the Jasper-thing soon. I hope I got reactions down good this time. There's also a reason why Jasper was able to stay near Whitaker's blood, though I tried to show the strain it placed on him. (just thought I'd let you know :])
Gaps of Misery--It's all right. :) And life needs silliness! That's why I put in the Vesuvius line... lol Thanks for being such a regular reviewer. :D
