The tension in the room was thick, the silence heavy. Carefully, I replaced the cap on the ink bottle and put the quill to the side.
"Your Majesty," I said carefully as I stood up. "I wasn't expecting to see you until the morning." The man across the room smiled. He took a step forward.
"I wanted to see you tonight," he murmered, equally as careful as me. I tensed. He prowled across the room, toward me. My heart hammered frantically in my chest.
"Here I am," I rasped. My mouth was dry; it felt like I hadn't had a sip of water in days. "Unfortunately, Your Majesty, it is far too late for me and I am tired. Perhaps we could finish our visit over breakfast? Maybe we could take a walk after."
"A walk with you sounds nice, my love." He was standing directly in front of me now, his eyes boring into mine. My knees were trembling so much I felt like I would fall over. Fear and pride kept me upright. His eyes were blazing with determination. I could see the power in them. The power I had heard so much about, and made us live in constant fear. But I saw something else in his eyes. And I was more afraid of that than I was of his power. It was hunger.
He gazed at me greedily. His eyes tracked over my body, resting on my face. "I have wanted to be with you for a long time, my love, and finally I have you here. Yet for some reason your handler makes up things to keep us apart. You will be mine, one way or another."
His hands closed over my upper arms, holding me tightly. I winced at the strength in his hands, and at the promise and threat of danger they held. I tried to pull away, but his grip was too strong. My mind raced. 'Stall!'
"I am only fifteen summers old, My Lord, and you haven't known me for that long," I gasped, trying again to wiggle free. "You're hurting me."
His grip loosened, but still not enough for me to get loose. He looked at me in confusion. Then he pushed me away so he could hold me at arms length. "You are Artemis, I know you." He let go of one of my arms and used his now free hand to push my hair behind my ear. I winced again, but held still. His confusion deepened.
"No, my lord, I am Tari." I was starting to get scared again. What was wrong with him?
"What happened to you, my love? Why are you calling yourself that?" He looked at me in concern. "I know your spirit, your power. You are my love, my Artemis. Do you not remember?"
"Remember what?" I was getting frantic now. "What do you want from me? I don't remember anything before last year!"
He froze. His eyes locked on mine. Terror gripped me, wrapping its icy hands around my throat, choking me. His grip relaxed more, and I pulled myself free, backing away as quickly as I could.
"You don't rememeber? Anything?" He seemed genuinely saddened by this, and I was sure had he been any other man I would have felt sorry for him. I shook my head. The determination came back into his eyes. "Then I will just have to remind you who I am."
He took a step forward. I tried backing up more but realized I had put myself in the corner. "And who you are." Another step. I tried to shrink farther back, a whimper escaping my lips. Finally, he was directly in front of me. He lowered his head toward me. "Who we are." His hands grasped my arms just as his lips captured mine.
I struggled against him in vain. He had a firm hold on me and was not letting go. He lifted his head and smiled at me.
"Please," I begged him." Please stop." His smile turned into a frown.
"You have to remember. You have to know me." He let go of one arm and dragged me across the room. I dug my heels into the floor but it did me no good. Galbatorix picked me up and carried me the rest of the way to the bed and laid me down gently. I scooted away as he climbed up after me. I was almost off the bed and prepared to run when his fingers closed around my ankle. I screamed as he pulled me back toward him, and he clapped a hand over my mouth. "Come now, love, we can't have any of that. You might wake someone." He laid down on top of me, capturing my mouth in another kiss. I tried to push him off, but he just pulled my arms above my head and held them there. His free hand traced its way up my body from my hip up to cup my breast. I yelped into his mouth as he kneaded the tender flesh. He leaned away from me.
"Please! Please don't!" I thrashed as hard as I could to try to get him off of me, but he only held me harder. He leaned up on one arm and yanked my skirts up to my thighs. Tears welled up in my eyes as he rolled back over me. "Stop! Let me go! Please!" I pleaded with him, praying he would let me up.
He lowered his head back to mine and took my lips again. He pushed his knee between mine. No matter how hard I tried I couldn't fight him off. He used his knee to spread my legs apart and settled himself between them. Tears were streaming freely down my face, falling silently into my hair. Galbatorix traced my trembling lips with the tip of his tongue before forcing it into my mouth to tangle with my own. I bit down instinctively at the intrusion. Galbatorix jerked back and growled. He reached between us and yanked my skirt farther up around my waist. He growled again when he felt the fabric of my undergarment. With one quick jerk he ripped them away, tossing them negligently over his shoulder. His hand went back to the apex of my legs and cupped me. Fresh tears sprang to my eyes and I struggled harder against his grip on my wrists. His fingers traced my opening in slow circles. His mouth moved away from my bruised lips and moved down my jaw to my neck, nibbling and kissing as he went.
"Please stop this," I gasped. "I don't remember, I don't WANT to remember!"
Galbatorix growled against my throat. "I will make you remember. I will make you mine." His fingers plunged into my core without warning. The pain of the intrusion made me scream, threw my head back. I thrashed harder, digging my heels into the soft blankets and trying to push myself away from him. He pulled me back to him, and relief flowed through me in a warm rush as he took his hand from my body. But the icy claws of terror gripped my throat, choking me, when he reached for the laces of his pants and untied them. He had to lean away from me to slid his pants down, and his grip momentarily slackened. It was enough for me to yank my hands free. With a shout, I placed my hand on his chest and shoved as hard as I could, throwing him off balance and away from me. I rolled over and scampered as quickly as I could across the bed. I was at the edge about to pull myself over when Galbatorix threw himself on top of me, squishing me into the mattress.
He grabbed me around the waist and threw me back into the center of the bed, still face down. I tried to crawl away, but his weight was back over me before I could move far. Hands grasped my hips and pulled me onto my hands and knees. He leaned over me, hands reaching around and grasping the neckline of my gown. With a quick tug, he ripped the bodice open, exposing my skin to the chilly air. He grasped the tender mounds of flesh, kneading them gently. Tears were still falling from my eyes, staining the pillows. I dropped onto the bed, laying limply as his hands traced over my body. I whimpered again as his fingers went back to my core, moving in and out of my body. I prayed that if I stayed still he would lose interest. Hope ballooned in my chest when he removed his fingers again, but pure panic punctured it when I felt the tip of something much larger pressing against my opening. Forgetting about laying silently, I began to fight again, clawing at everything I could reach and screaming as loudly as I could. He grasped my wrists again and forced my hands above my head, holding me still.
"Please," I whispered again. "Please don't." Over and over again I begged him to stop. The tip of his member pressed against my opening again, pushing harder through the folds.
"You will be mine," he gasped against my hair. "You will remember." And he plunged himself into my body, ripping through the barrier, and burying himself deep inside my body.
Pain. Excruciating pain. I screamed into the pillows, bit down hard as he started to move. I was sobbing freely now, struggling as hard as I could. He moved faster and harder, gasping with every thrust of his hips. And with every thrust I prayed I would die. The pain was unbearable. And just when I thought I couldn't take any more, Galbatorix moaned loudly and came with a grunt, pumping his seed into my womb. He rolled off of me and pulled me into his chest, stroking my hair.
"Don't worry my love," he murmured into my hair as he held me. "You will remember everything we were in due time. And I will be there with you when you do. But for now, we must part. How would it look for me to spend the night in my intended's bedchambers before we are wed?" He pulled away from me, leaving me sobbing on the bed as he pulled his pants back on and laced them back up. He crossed the room and pulled open the door.
"Remember, Artemis," he said just before he closed the door. "You are mine."
The door closed with a snap, leaving me curled up on the bed, sobbing into the pillow, more lost than I had been the year before.
A/N: I went back and added a few details to the first few chapters, so I apologize if I confuse anyone. I realized as I was writing this that I'm making Galbatorix way out of character, but it fits for the way the story is heading.
(EDIT) I hope this cleared up the mystery of the changing names lol.
Kelsey: Thanks for the review, no I don't write professionally, but it made my day to read that :)
Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoy the new chapter, and I will try to put up a new one soon! Keep those reviews coming!
