“You are joking with me Remo.” Chuin said, glancing at Kai.
“No, he is accurately relaying the facts of what occurred. It is a reaction that I am used to. Many people I was sent to kill by His Divine Shadow reacted much the same.” Kai said.
“They soiled themselves???” Chuin asked.
“Many times, yes. As a Divine Assassin, I was feared throughout the Light Universe. Divine Assassins were the ultimate punishment. It meant that your crime was one of heresy. A crime directly against His Divine Shadow.
Even as a child on Brunnis 2, I can recall my mother seeking to correct unwanted behavior by saying the ‘Death Shadows’ would get me if I did not behave, I am thankful that she did not live to see her son become one. Even when the Brunnen G first arrived in the Light Universe, the Divine Order existed as did Divine Assassins.
The reputation of Divine Assassins had been forged over thousands and thousands of years before my death.” Kai explained. “Being made into one was also a punishment meted out by His Divine Shadow. I was made into a Divine Assassin as a punishment to the Brunnen G, in retaliation for the destruction of the Insect Civilization in the Insect War. The Brunnen G had led mankind to victory in that war.”
“The first time I laid eyes on Kai I almost peed my pants. He literally scared the crap out of me. At first I was terrified every time we woke him up. I was afraid that he would remember that he never got around to killing us. Divine Assassins don’t stop until they have filled the death order given by Divine Shadow.” Stanley said.
“So no matter what, you just pull yourself together and keep going. You should be dead Kai. I don’t blame the guy for crapping in his pants. People don’t just pick their head up and put it back on once it’s been chopped off. Even Shiva is wary of you.” Remo noted.
“Remo, I am already dead.” Kai said.
“Yeah alive dead, just not dead dead.” Stanley observed.

“What is it with the speeches? Not only do I have to listen to Kai babble about how many people he’s killed, this Master of Sinanju buffoon has to claim to be the reincarnation of some Hindu god too?” Prince said in annoyance.
“Your nemesis will be a complex problem Mr Prince. He lives after suffering a 100% fatal injury.” Mr Gordons noted. “No human can survive decapitation and yet he still lives.”
“That’s because he’s already dead.” Xev spat. “Just like you will be when he finds you. And Kai won’t stop looking for you. He never gives up and he has never failed to kill someone he intends to kill.”
“Xev, Kai has failed. I still live.” Prince reminded her.
“No you exist. Your body is dead. You just don’t stay dead, you come back. We learned that on Fire. The only difference is you just don’t have a body now.”
“Who knows Xev, perhaps I will have a body again one day. I once had a body that you found quite appealing. As I recall, if not for Fifi’s inconvenient sense of timing you would have found it more than appealing.” Prince said reminding her of his ‘Kai’ incarnation back on Fire.
“As I recall, I knocked you off of that thorn to another death. Looking like Kai and being Kai are two different things.” She remarked.
“So Kai is undead. We must explore avenues of dealing with the undead.” Mr Gordon’s noted.
“And what of your Master of Sinanju Gordons? We are no closer to killing him than we are to killing Kai.” Prince observed.

“790, why didn’t you tell me about this?” Kai asked.
“Do you really have to ask Kai?” Stanley said. “We both know that 790 is homicidally obsessed with you. For all we know 790 arranged it.”
“I wanted the slut gone, they simply provided me with what I wanted.” 790 said. “Now if we could just find someone stupid enough to kidnap you Tweedle, life would be grand.”
“I was able to confirm one thing from the information you gave me and the, um body.” Harold Smith took a deep breath. “The men all had ties to one of the largest triads in China. They are into so many different things no one knows just how far their reach is. Drug smuggling, arms dealing, gambling, human trafficking; you name it they have a stake in it.”
Smith flipped off the lights and turned on the projector. The image of an elderly Asian man appeared on the screen. Chuin let out a hiss of anger, “David Chang. I know of him. He has had many dealings with the idiot in Pyongyang.”
“The FBI was all set to bring charges against him under the RICO Act several months ago. The charges were mysteriously dropped on the orders of the ATF. They claimed that he was an informant providing information on the triad. The order was signed by Isambard Prince.” Smitty added.
“So Prince called in a marker, had Chang grab Xev so Gordons could set Kai up like a rat in a maze.” Remo said.
“It looks that way. But there is no evidence. Nothing to tie Chang to Prince.”
“Sometimes lack of evidence opens other avenues of inquiry, The House of Sinanju would be more than happy to pursue those avenues. And we will not even charge you for this. Call it a good faith gesture in our upcoming negotiations.” Chuin said darkly.

“Want to tell us what that was about Little Father?” Remo asked. “You giving Smitty a freebie? Did hell freeze over while I wasn’t looking?”
“David Chang has a long standing debt to repay.” Chuin said.
“Chang owes the House of Sinanju money?” Remo questioned.
“He owes a debt that cannot be repaid with money, only with his life.” Chuin spat. “Not to the House but to the village, a debt that I had to forego because of an old friend. That friend has since crossed the void and I no longer must stay my hand.”
“It is a debt of honor then?” Kai said. “Debts of honor cannot be paid in currency, they must be paid in pain.”
“Yes Kai. David Chang must pay this debt with pain in equal measure to the pain he has caused.
You say you are the Last of the Brunnen G and yet like myself and Remo you have a House. A House that is yours to protect; the woman, the coward and the head are your house. As we are the masters of the House of Sinanju, so you are master of the House of Lexx. David Chang has harmed both of our Houses, so the debt is owed to both houses. The only payment sufficient is pain then death.”
“Divine Assasins are programmed not only to kill but also to cause intense pain without killing.” Kai noted. “It is a talent that was often needed when dealing with the Austrel B Heretics.”
“Then you will deal with the pain, and I will deal with the death.” Chuin announced.

David Chang hated flying. Especially long flights when he was stuck thousands of feet in the air for hours with strangers. While he had his own jet, He did not want to call the attention of the American authorities to this trip. So he was stuck flying on a commercial flight under an assumed name.
He was still somewhat in shock. 25 of his top men were dead. The photos he had received of the carnage from a well paid Sergeant with the New Orleans Police Department were confusing at best. Most of his men had been butchered. The floor was covered in blood. Then there were the ones who had just died. No wounds, nothing to explain their deaths. Hopefully he would find out more when he managed to contact Prince.
He was jarred out of his thoughts by the pilot’s voice announcing that they had arrived at the terminal. He picked up his briefcase and joined the line of passengers disembarking into the terminal. He had travelled light just his briefcase and an overnight bag so there was no need to wait for baggage. He said a small prayer that the car and driver would be waiting. He hated the humidity and heat of the deep south. In truth he hated a lot of things these days.
He was surprised to see an American holding up a sign that said “Chang”. The man was average but his attire was offensive. A black T-shirt and chino’s. At least the Italian loafers on his feet were expensive.
“Mr Chang? I’m Remo Gotti.” The man said introducing himself. “I apologize that we did not have a regular driver available to meet you. When we realized that we were overbooked I decided to personally put myself at your disposal.”
The man took his bag and led the way out into the late evening heat. At least the vehicle was acceptable. Not the latest model of limousine, but acceptable. The man opened the door and Chang entered to come face to face with a deathly pale dark haired man already seated in the interior. He would have backed out but he was pushed into the vehicle. Turning he saw an elderly frail Korean man that made him feel like a teenager in comparison.
The pale one spoke. “Please have a seat David Chang. We have something to discuss. I have a question that I would like you to answer. I attempted to ask one of your gang members but unfortunately for him, he did not know the answer. I believe that you do.”
The brace shot forward locking around Chang’s wrist. He was being dragged toward the pale one like a fish on a hook. “Where is Xev?”

The old man had been fishing the bayou for years and had never caught so much as a rusty can. He was a regular sight bobbing along in his little jonboat, rod in one hand beer in the other. And after all these years the old man had finally caught something, the battered and broken body of an elderly oriental.
