The sun was setting when Angel stepped onto the back porch with her drink. It had been a long day for her and all she wanted was to relax. Stifling a yawn, she turned and made her way back inside the quiet house. She marveled at the silence. The mansion was so often the meeting point for everyone it was rare to find no one sitting around the lounge room or anywhere else. She frowned in thought, wondering if maybe she had forgotten something before she remembered her parents and their friends had all agreed to take their training outside and into the forest for a greater challenge.
Life had slowed down considerably since her divorce, though she never complained. She liked the comfortable life she had made with her new husband. He gave her almost everything she ever wanted and could fill almost every need she had. Almost. There was a small fact about her she had never told him in the time they had known each other. She never knew how. It was not that she did not want to tell him. It was just a small fact about her that had not really been active since she had been married to Orifiel. That part of her life ended. Still, she found a part of her missing the touch of a woman. Nothing against him. There was just something about the way a woman could work her that fulfilled her in ways a man never could.
A sigh left her lips and she stood at the window. Her eyes remained thoughtful as she fondly remembered her university days in France after she had fled Harbor Springs. A few of her friends had joined her, including one Jasmine Covell. Together, they had gone through high school lost in a state of confusion about their sexuality, but free to explore themselves in Paris, they taught each other so much more. Looking down at her drink, she made a note to try and reach her old friend again the next day.
A door opened and closed behind her, but Angel did not turn to see who had entered the room. She merely expected it to be her new husband, Dante Thanos. He never liked to leave her alone for very long, especially after the recent attacks had begun against her family and herself. She was grateful, but at the same time found herself feeling caged. She never complained, though. She knew it was for her safety. She felt loved that he valued her so deeply. Her thought quieted when a figure stepped up beside her and gazed outside.
“I take it the moon is particularly interesting tonight?”
Angel blinked and glanced over at the beauty beside her. A smile curved her lips. “Good evening Celeste. Back from your hunt so soon?”
Celeste brushed her long red hair off her shoulder and looked up at her with a similar grin. “What can I say,” she returned with a shrug and a quiet laugh. “I have better things to do with my night than hunt animals.”
“Oh really?” Angel turned to face the woman, the arm holding her drink braced upon her other arm wrapped around her waist. Her eyes never wavered from her friend's uniquely colored eyes; a mix crimson and jade, as her drink became curled against her chest. She marveled at the beauty next to her. “Just what exactly did you have in mind for the night?”
“Oh, I don't know,” Celeste said lightly. “I suppose Vergil might have a few things planned, but he is resting for now. It gives me some time to myself.”
“You face the same situation I do then?”
Celeste grinned again. “Must be a brother thing.”
“Must be.” Their quiet laugh melted into the silence again and Angel returned to gazing out the window. She became unnerved when she realized Celeste was silently studying her. “Something on your mind, Celeste?”
“Not so much mine,” she answered softly. “I was wondering the same about you.”
Angel looked down into her glass again as she remembered her thoughts prior to Celeste joining her. She was just uncertain how to even begin to tell anyone what she was feeling.
“You are missing someone. Orifiel perhaps?”
The blonde blinked and struggled to keep her grip on her drink as her heart jumped. Quickly, she shook her head. “N-no, gods no,” she replied with a nervous laugh. “I see enough of him around the house to miss him.”
“Very true,” Celeste nodded with a knowing smirk. “So who are you missing?”
“No one you had the pleasure of meeting.”
“Shame.” There was a mischievous glint in her eyes. “Whoever it was must have been something special to leave that wistful look in your eyes.” She giggled at the blush that rose on Angel's lightly tanned face. “Ooo, got you now. Who was he?”
“Erm... he?”
Christmas eyes widened in shock and pleasant surprise. “She?” Celeste nipped her lip as a wide smile brightened her face and she led her to the couch. “I had no idea. When was this? Who was she?”
Angel had no idea how to react as she felt as though her heart would jump out of her chest. She had not been able to be very open about herself in a lot of ways since her return home, and especially when she was with Orifiel, so her new husband had no idea about her bisexual tendencies.
Sensing her hesitation, Celeste calmed slightly. “Dante doesn't know of her either, does he?”
She shook her head. “No,” she answered quietly. “I have been afraid to tell him. Been afraid to tell anyone.”
Celeste reached up to gently brush a few stray strands of blond hair away from her friend's face. “There is no need to fear telling me. If it helps, I am bisexual as well. Ciara and I spent many years together before she and Soran met up. We may not be actively together now, but the feelings are still there.”
Angel looked up at her curiously. “How do you guys manage? I mean... What does Vergil say about this?”
“He doesn't know,” Celeste admitted looking down. “I know what he'd say though. It's typical of any guy in his position: fine as long as he can be a part of it. The problem is sometimes we would just rather reconnect our own way, you know what I mean?”
Angel nodded. “I do.” A part of her felt relieved to know that someone in the house finally understood how she felt. “I know very well what you mean.”
There was another brief silence before Celeste caught the flicker of sadness in her friend's eyes again. “What exactly do you miss?”
“The short version?” Angel sighed. “All of it. Dante is wonderful in every way, but she... she just made me feel things no man ever could.”
“I hear that.” Celeste could sense the empty feeling Angel was keeping hidden and knew the emotion well. Placing an arm around the woman's shoulders, she pulled her friend closer, cuddling her against her almost protectively as she combed her fingers through the long red-gold hair.
A sort of peace drifted over Angel's spirit as she relaxed comfortably against the vampire holding her. Celeste was so confident in her ways whereas Angel had a tendency to be hesitant. She caught the soft humming and felt soothed still more. The melodic tune caught into her senses and seemed to weave into her memory in a way that felt it would never leave. Opening her bright blue eyes she lifted her head to look up at her. Celeste's fingers still at her movement as she carefully watched her.
“That tune...”
“Ciara used to hum it to me when I was upset about something... Soothing isn't it?”
“I love it.” Angel swallowed hard and offered a small smile. “Please... continue?”
“As you like.”
The tune continued to wrap and wind itself into Angel's mind, reaching deep into her spirit and bringing rays of light to areas of darkness within her. Her heart beat calmly and a small butterfly sensation began in the pit of her stomach. There was a moment of hesitation when Angel's hand slid p under the side of her face and rested between Celeste's breasts as a place to rest her head a bit more comfortably. Angel even noted the tune seemed slightly shaken when it began again, almost nervously. She gave not much thought to it until she felt another set of fingertips brush over her bare arms creating gooseflesh as they moved. Her breath caught when the fingertips touched her chin and gently eased her head up, tilting her face back just slight enough so their lips could touch.
Angel's eyes blinked rapidly a moment before she caught a hold of herself and hesitantly returned the kiss. She felt Celeste slowly asserting her control of the situation as she shifted into a better position for them both. Her touch remained gentle and tender and the blonde gave her a curious look as she gazed back at her. A small pink tongue slid delicately over her lips but she waited until she saw what she was looking for. A small nod of permission granted from the blonde.
Again, her lips tasted Angel's and her tongue was quickly granted entrance to the moist cavern it sought. Memories of her past floated back to her and Angel became a little more confident as her tongue returned the massage of Celeste's. At the vampire's encouragement, Angel moved so her back was pressed against the back of the couch and Celeste straddled her lap. She gazed up at her friend for a moment, wondering just where things would go from there. She longed for the touches and the experiences Celeste could promise her, but both also knew what could happen if they were caught. The thought made each of them hesitate.
“Vergil's still sleeping,” Celeste whispered softly, as if reassuring herself.
“What about Dante?”
Celeste looked thoughtful a moment and cocked her head to one side, listening intently to the sounds of the house. “Shower, it sounds like...”
“We don't really have a lot of time...”
“No, that we don't,” Celeste agreed with a sigh as she slid back onto her feet and stood again. She watched as Angel sat forward, her arms propped on her knees as she gazed down at the floor with a sigh. Celeste could not help but feel for her. She looked just so lost. Kneeling down she gently lifted Angel's face by the chin. “Hey, don't give up yet. We'll have our chance. One day soon, I promise, if you really want it.”
Angel's lips curved slightly and some of her emptiness seemed to ebb. “I would like that, yes.”
The vampire grinned a little more hopefully. “Then, together, we will find a way to make it happen, you and I. We can find a way to make it work...” She quieted when she heard the sound of the shower turning off upstairs. “I should go and check on Vergil, now.”
Angel's heart jumped as if she had begun to panic as soon as her friend turned to leave the room. Quickly, she sprang up from the couch and chased after her, grasping Celeste's hand and gripping it tightly in her own. “Wait...”
Celeste turned back with concern in her eyes. “What is it, Angel?”
“One more? Please?”
A slow smile curved her lips and Celeste stepped closer to her once more. “One more. For now. A promise sealed with one last kiss...” An arm slid around Angel's waist, holding her slender body against her own lithe form. Placing one hand flat against the side of Angel's face, Celeste's lips found her one last time. She broke it when she heard footsteps in the hall and stepped back reluctantly. “Until next time,” she whispered with a wink.
Angel nodded slightly, her fingertips to her lips as a slight blush dusted the tops of her cheeks once more. “Next time,” she returned equally as soft. She listened as Celeste slipped away but somehow failed to notice when Dante approached her, jumping and shaking her head to clear it of her racing thoughts as he swept her into his arms and held her tightly.
“Good evening, Angel. Have an interesting talk with Celeste, I take it?”
Angel choked back her sudden urge to laugh insanely as she looked up at him with a barely controlled grin instead. “You have no idea...”
