___
Forks, Washington. Not exactly the place that most people would want to move to. It’s small and surrounded by rainforest. It is almost always cloudy and rains almost every day. But that suited me just fine. Sure I would miss the old buildings of Massachusetts, sure I would miss all of it, maybe even the sun…or maybe not. I had always been a rainy day kind of person after all. However, the circumstances of my moving to Forks, Washington were not the best.
My name is Asher Crow. I am seventeen and my parents recently died in a freak accident, if you can call an insane employee coming into work and shooting everyone in sight a freak accident. Anyway, with no other family, custody goes to my godfather, Billy Black. I had never even met the man because my parents had lived in the east ever since before I was born. So here I was, long black hair, emerald eyes, pail white skin…going to a live in La Push, the Quileute reservation.
I was currently being driven by the sheriff of Forks who was friends with my godfather.
“So, you got everything kid?”
“Yes Mr. Swan.”
“Here let me help you.”
“I really don’t need any help Mr. Swan.”
I grabbed my bags out of the back and looked up at the small building. I had been told to let myself in because both Billy and his son Jacob were out doing…something. I opened the unlocked door and brought everything in before walking over to the table where a letter sat.
Sorry I couldn’t be there to meet you Asher. Jacob and I had a council meeting to attend. We’ll be home soon. Your room is the last door on the right, please make yourself at home while we are gone.
~Billy.
“Great.”
I took a deep breath and carried my bags to the spare room and started putting things away, but exhaustion was setting in fast and I was so tired. I set my laptop on the bedside table and fell into the bed, not even getting undressed. Blackness over took me before I was surrounded in dripping red.
When I woke up covered in cold sweat Billy and Jacob had still not arrived. I pulled out my keyboard and slowly started playing, my heart breaking as I remembered the faces of my parents. I had fought with them before they passed. I had written this song for them, I had played it at their funeral.
I didn’t even know that I had tears in my eyes as I played, my fingers flew over the keys as I played, the movements committed to memory. A knock sounded on the doorframe just as the last notes faded. I brushed my tears away and looked up to see a kid about my age; he was taller than me, by a lot. I was tall, don’t get me wrong. I’m six feet. But this guy had me by at least five inches.
“You must be Jacob.”
The boy nodded.
“Yea…sorry about the room…it…belonged to my sisters. So it’s a bit…girly.”
I laughed softly; it was all I could do.
“I don’t mind. I…probably won’t be here too long anyway.”
“Dad would like to see you. He’s only seen pictures, and the last was when you where ten.”
I laughed again. “Yea, that’s when I started skipping on school photo day.” Jacob laughed again and I stood, walking into the living room where Billy sat in his wheelchair. He had a bright smile on his face when he saw me and I couldn’t help but smile as well.
“You look so much like your mother Asher.”
“Thank you sir.”
“Please, call me Uncle Billy. It’s what you would have been calling me if your parents stayed in Forks.”
I nodded softly and looked down at my feet.
“How was the flight?” “Long.”
Billy nodded.
“It’s still early, why don’t you and Jacob go take a ride out to Fork’s High School so he can show you where you will be going to school.”
At least I wasn’t going to school on the reservation. That would…well it would make me feel like a major outsider.
I followed Jacob over to his Rabbit and hopped in.
“I’m guessing you don’t talk much.”
I looked over at Jacob and sighed.
“Not lately.” Jacob simply nodded and we spent the rest of the ride in silence.
“I…hear you can ride a motorcycle, so…if you want you can borrow mine to get to school.”
I perked up a bit. I loved riding in the rain, I was odd like that.
“That…sounds nice. Thank you Jacob.”
Jacob nodded slightly as we pulled up outside of the school.
“Looks small.”
******************************
First days at new schools are always the hardest. These kids had been going to school together for…well…their entire school careers, and here I was…new...holey new and it was almost the end of the year. Luckily all of my credits had been moved to this school so I wouldn’t have to do my senior year all over again. Black helmet in place I hopped on Jacob’s Harley and smiled as I headed out of La Push and down the wet streets to Fork’s High School.
The day passed in a daze. The dark dreams of the night before had nearly broken my mind and I simply could not function properly. My body moved, I spoke, I functioned, but my soul was not in it, my soul did not show itself until the flyer for the talent show was laid before me.
I flew back to La Push as quickly as I could and grabbed my guitar from where I had put it in the closet, I grabbed a notebook and a pencil and ran out the door again before Jacob or Billy could say anything. I headed back out to Forks again and spent an hour hiking in the woods before I found the right spot. I sat down and played my guitar slowly, stopping now and again to write lyrics down on the note book.
It was fully dark by the time I was complete and I doubted very much that I would find my way out of the forest. I ignored it though. I had taken a straight path and marked it. I took a deep breath and started playing, needing to get this down before the talent show which I had already signed up for.
*Meanwhile*
Jacob’s POV
“Jacob, it’s going to be dark soon. Where is Asher?”
I looked up from my food to see that Dad looked worried. I stood and stretched.
“I’ll go look for him.”
He wasn’t anywhere on the reservation. He wasn’t anywhere in Forks either. That only left one place. The forest. I sped towards the Cullen’s place. It was fully dark now, and I knew that Asher had to be in their territory. I needed their permission to seek him out. Edward was at the door when I arrived.
“Missing someone?”
I really hated that he could read my mind.
“You met him today right?”
“In passing. He’s quiet. His mind was blank for most of the day until he got the signup sheet for the talent show. I’ve heard him all day playing in the forest. He’s doing it right now.”
I listened and frowned.
“I don’t hear anything.”
“I didn’t say he was anywhere close. But he’s quite good. He may just win.”
“Just lead me to him would ya?”
Edward gave a half smile and jumped down from his porch to join me. We walked for half an hour before I could hear the music.
“Come and listen, brave and tall, The greatest tale I have to tell you, It was a bleak and barren moor. In ancient days he fell. There rode a man of high renown His name it came as hunter Childe. Every day he chased heath and waste On a moor so black and wild.”
Edward smiled beside me, resting against a tree as we watched Asher. He looked so happy as he sang. “The wind blew in and that hunter Fell upon a bed of snow. The night drew in and that thunder Stuck him in a steady hole. He looked up high and he begged her "Let me see my lover home"., The moon called out to the hunter "Come into the shadows".”
I started feeling strange, like I was being pushed back into the past. I could see everything that was being described. “He drew a knife from off his back, Upon the ground his horse was lying. He cut a measure, just full size To rest there for the night. With his finger dipped in blood He scrabbled words along the stones, "Upon my will, God fulfill, Rest these heavy bones".”
It was as if Asher was actually laying there in the snow, like I was seeing one of his memories from a past life. “The wind blew in and that hunter Fell upon a bed of snow. The night drew in and that thunder Stuck him in a steady hole. He looked up high and he begged her "Let me see my lover home"., The moon called out to the hunter "Come into the shadows". “Take a warning when you`re in the wild, Against the skyline, off the high road. For the memory of hunter Childe Should rest you on your way. He was a man of high renown, His name it came, then blew away. Upon his will the moon to steal, In the shadows he will lay.”
As he sang, his eyes seemed to glow blue rather than their green. My heart rate picked up and a spike of fear ran through me. Edward stiffened beside me. “The wind blew in and that hunter Fell upon a bed of snow. The night drew in and that thunder Stuck him in a steady hole. He looked up high and he begged her "Let me see my lover home"., The moon called out to the hunter "Come into the shadows"”
Those glowing eyes widened and the guitar was placed beside him on the rock he was sitting on. He pressed his hands to his eyes and rubbed them before looking up, fear on his face. That made me feel a little bit better.
“J…Jacob? What are you doing here?”
*Back to Asher*
I couldn’t stop. It was like I was possessed and memories flooded me, memories of…perhaps dreams, perhaps a past life. Memories of hunting and of a sudden snow storm. Memories of dying in the cold, of simply wanting to get home to my loved one. I rubbed my eyes when I was finally able to finish the song and looked up to see Jacob standing with an oddly pail boy that I had seen at school.
“J…Jacob? What are you doing here?”
Jacob moved closer and kneeled before me. He was still taller, even with me sitting and him kneeling. I was envious of that, though I had no reason to be.
“What just happened, Asher? Your eyes just…started glowing blue.”
I rubbed the back of my head because I didn’t know what to say. Jacob looked completely freaked out.
“I’m not…really sure. Only you are not the first to say that has happened. Mother used to say it would happen whenever I finished a song.” I felt my heart rip inside of my chest again. I would never see my mother again. She was gone forever, buried six feet under. I still remembered the dress I had decided to have her buried in. It was her favorite. You couldn’t even see the bullet holes…it was suddenly hard to breath and I could hear frantic voices but they were so far away.
I woke up with a pail man with blond hair looking over me and checking my vitals. class=GramE>His hands where colder than any doctors, at least any of my doctors. I winced and looked away, the lights in the room too bright. I sat up, even though I had been told not to. The world was spinning but I was used to stuff like that. My world would spin quite often, and it had led to many scans of my head and many trips to the emergency room. But I had outgrown it after I had been given my first instrument three years before. I had simply been able to pick it up and play it perfectly. I didn’t know how, and that in turn had led to more scans of my beautifully chaotic brain.
“Anyone ever tell you that you look just like the Vampire Lestat, seriously, just grow out your hair and you’ll have it.”
The man stiffened and I raised an eyebrow.
“What? Can’t take a joke?”
“It’s not that, I just called for your medical records to be sent to me a short time ago and reading over them…seventeen brain scans in five years?”
“Wow, here I don’t even know your name and already you are so keen on the inner workings of my mind.”
The man laughed and it sounded like music. I raised my eyebrow at that.
“I am Doctor Carlisle Cullen and I’m your new doctor. Your god brother asked my son Edward to help find you tonight and shortly after they found you…you fainted. Can you tell me why?”
I gulped and looked away.
“It…hurt.”
“What hurt? This is a serious matter Mr. Crow. Your records show that such episodes have happened quite a lot to you.”
I nodded slowly and looked away.
“My heart hurt. class=GramE>Like it was ripping apart. It happens every time I think about…my parents…”
My vision swam again and I closed my eyes to keep from throwing up.
“Where you close to them?”
“Not so much with my father, but my mother was my best friend. Dad didn’t take it class=SpellE>to well when I…came out. Mom was on the phone almost every day for a week with Billy trying to get over dad being such an ass about it. I almost got sent here two years early. But…mom just took me on vacation after that, we went to Florida. A few weeks after that I was in the hospital again and Dad completely forgot about my little…outburst before.”
I was holding my stomach, trying to keep it from running away.
“All I can see when I sleep…is their faces in their coffins. And blood. I see blood.”
I looked away, tears in my eyes.
“I…I told them not to go to work that day. I had a bad feeling. I had seen them the night before…just as they would be…in their coffins…I…I knew it was going to happen Doctor Cullen. I …I knew.”
“Has this sort of thing happened before?”
“You…don’t think I’m crazy?”
“No, in fact, I think you may have a gift, has it happened before?”
I could only nod. After all, it had happened before.
“It was always small things before. It has been going on since before I can remember. It’s part of the reason for the dizziness and fainting. The doctors don’t believe it though. But then they started getting…more vivid. I knew I would end up here a year ago. But I didn’t know why. And…I…I know…your secret, and Jacob’s.”
Carlisle stiffened.
“What secretes?”
“I saw you and your family…glowing in the sunlight, like diamonds and then drinking the blood of animals. And I saw Jacob turning into a wolf. I…I also saw Alice…when I was five is the first time. Just glimpses and I didn’t know why…I…I…”
I started shaking and things got distant again. I had repressed all of these things and suddenly they were all coming out. How could I have forgotten all of this, even a year ago…I hadn’t remembered the visions of Forks but…
Carlisle was saying something but I couldn’t hear, and everything was shadows now.
After seventeen years of repressing memories I was absolutely sure of several things.
One, I had visions, though most of them stayed locked in my mind.
Two, my god brother was a werewolf.
Three, I was in the house of a group of vegan vampires.
Four, Alice Cullen was related to me through blood in some way.
Five, I was going to die, and soon. I had seen my own death, and I had seen the several paths that it could take. I would either A) be buried in a plot next to my parents, B) Get recruited by the Volturi completely against my will, C) would be ripped to shreds by a rival wolf pack that was coming to town [The bad kind that rip people to shreds, not like Jacob and his friends who protected people from vampires], or D) become a Cullen, in which case I may or may not be able to bring up a new treaty between the vampires and the wolves. Either way, I was going to die. Two of these ways ended in me becoming a vampire, and the other two ended with me buried beside my parents. I just didn’t know the reason behind my death in option A.
So I was sure of five things, but the fifth thing had me unsure about four things…
This made me sure of another thing. I was absolutely, utterly, and totally screwed.

Now then, I was wondering…who should Asher end up with?
Jacob
Or someone else
Keep in mind that he is gay so he will not end up with a girl.
And here is the link to the playlist that is very short at the moment!

Also, about Asher. His eyes turn blue when he is having a vision. His visions cover past lives/events and the future. However, some of these are so traumatic (especially for a little kid) that he has suppressed them so that he only remembers the mild ones (like birthday presents, test answers, events at school), until he moves to Forks and they all come crashing out…
