Mine and His
Rated: M for mature themes (17+)
The mature scenes will have plenty of forewarning and you will be warned in the beginning notes of the chapter. I can’t do much more than that.
Summary: Edward rescues a girl while he is out hunting and he is forced to compromise his morals and turn her. When he brings her back to the Cullen’s estate, Bella is surprisingly at ease with it. This is the story of soul mates and how your world can be turned on its head. Edward/OC, Bella/Jacob, No Renesmee (Bella is not changed in this fiction. Because she never got pregnant, she went off to college for a semester like she told Edward and hasn’t been changed yet.)
Notes: Please no flames. If you don’t like it, then why are you reading it?
Chapter One: Her
He was following the scent of a cougar when he became aware of her. Her scent wafted to him from the same direction as the mountain lion. When he came upon the sight his hunger became his second priority. The cougar had a girl pinned to the ground, standing on her back. Deep gouges littered the skin of her back where the lion had attempted to bleed her before killing her. He saw the foam around the cat’s mouth and knew it was rabid. Cougars didn’t usually attack hikers unless provoked and he didn’t think the small girl on the ground had posed any kind of threat to the animal.
Edward growled deep in his chest, causing the cat’s head to snap in his direction. The animal let out a loud snarl and lunged from the girl to him, aiming for his throat. Edward easily caught it and broke its neck. He was still hungry for cougar blood, but this cat’s blood was tainted.
He tossed the cat aside and stepped up to the young girl lying on the ground, a grimace marring her dirty face and eyes clenched in pain. Edward crouched beside her and brushed her hair away. She jumped and her eyes snapped open. Her body relaxed slightly when she saw him, no doubt mistaking him for a normal human. As he stared into her eyes, the deepest brown he’d ever seen- deeper even than his wife Bella’s- he felt the earth move. Something arose in him that he never expected. He loved Bella and felt a strong protection over her- enough emotion to cause him to marry her. But what he felt just looking at this girl made everything he had ever felt for another seem miniscule in comparison.
Her eyes closed again as another wave of pain washed over her and he was brought back to the situation by the sound of her heart slowing, signaling death. “Listen, my father is a doctor. Let me take you to him and he can help you.” She opened her eyes again and again he was overwhelmed with the new sensation. She swallowed hard and shook her head.
“I can’t move my legs.” Her back was broken. He couldn’t move her if she wanted to regain any sort of movement in her legs. But he couldn’t just let her die. By the time he got Carlisle there, she would be dead. He made an executive decision and gently picked her up, trying his best not to jostle her. When he lifted her, she cried in pain and started whimpering. He didn’t know why, but her reaction pulled at his silent heart. He ran as fast as he could through the forest. Why the hell did he have to hunt so far from the house?
He listened to her heart over the whistling wind passing quickly by his ears. Edward skidded to a halt when he heard her heart slow to a dangerous pace. He gently set her on the ground and was gripped with another new emotion- that if she, this strange girl whom he had just met, died, his world would end. He had felt something similar to this with Bella, but not nearly to this caliber.
She looked up at him with the saddest eyes. Her expression changed to a peaceful grin and she reached her small hand up to caress his face. “It’s so strange. I don’t even know your name and yet...” She didn’t finish her sentence, but he knew what she meant. She felt the same as him.
Edward clenched his eyes and tried to keep a rein on his sanity. When he opened his them, she was still looking at him. In that moment he knew what he needed to do.
“There is something I can do to save you. But if I do, your life won’t ever be the same. If you don’t like it, then… I could help you die peacefully.” She smiled again and his heart would have hammered against his chest if it could.
“What is it?” He hesitated for a moment.
“I could… change you.”
“Change me?” He took her hand gently and held it in both of his own.
“I’m… a vampire.” His tone was gentle and at first he wasn’t sure she had heard him.
“Of course you are.” He was surprised and his head snapped up from where he had been staring at their clasped hands. He gave her a questioning look. She just smiled knowingly at him. He looked down at their hands again and smiled. He started laughing and looked back into her eyes. How she could be so coherent and logical this close to death was beyond him.
“So, you would be alright if I changed you? It’s a painful process and a painful death if you want to die after you find you don’t like the life I’m offering.” She gently squeezed his hand with her last remaining strength.
“If I can stay on this earth and be near you, then I want it.” He smiled at her again and nodded.
“I promise I’ll be there the whole time. You’ll never be alone.”
“I want this.” He looked down into her eyes and saw that she was genuine. Lifting her hand to his lips, he kissed it gently and then turned it over baring her wrist. He looked at her again.
“I’ll be there when you wake up.” With that he bared his fangs and bit deep into her flesh, drinking in the force that held her to her painful life.

“Oh, Edward! What happened?!” His adoptive mother, Esme, had been in the living room when he had swept into the house, carrying the girl to Carlisle’s office. When he had set her down gently, he turned and faced the shocked woman standing in the doorway.
“I changed her.” Her hand flew to her chest as if to still her heart, though that had been done a long time ago.
“But how? When? Why? What’s going on?”
“I was hunting and found her pinned by a rabid cougar. He had broken her back and was trying to bleed her.” He sat down quickly in the chair beside the examination table. “Esme, I don’t know what came over me. It was like everything was out of my control. All I could think of was that I couldn’t let her die.” He stood up suddenly and started pacing. “I don’t even know her name! I tried to bring her to Carlisle, but she was so close to dying! It was the only other option I had. Esme, I only ever felt that helpless feeling when I thought Bella had died. And even then it wasn’t nearly as strong as this. Oh God, Esme! I just met this girl and already I love her more than my own wife! What am I going to do? What will happen when Bella hears about this? What about our family? Esme, what have I done?” Edward has stopped pacing and was now looking at Esme in such despair.
Esme opened her fragile looking arms and pulled her son into a supportive embrace. She stroked his auburn hair and spoke gently. “Edward, it sounds as if you found your soul mate. You know about the Quileute imprinting, right? Well, Carlisle heard about something similar happening to a very select few vampires as well. I can do some more research on the subject and have Alice help too. As for Bella, you still love her don’t you?” She felt Edward nod against her shoulder. “Then you should be honest with her. Tell her about the circumstances and I’m sure she’ll understand. As for your feelings about this girl, I would wait until Alice and I have found something to explain this situation. And about you acting on your feelings… that is completely up to you. Do what you know is right, Edward. Your heart can never lead you astray as long as you listen to it.”
They stayed there in an embrace for a while until they could sense the others coming up the drive from their shopping excursion in Seattle. Edward knew he would have to explain things, but was very happy that it was only Esme that had been home at the time.
Edward was down the stairs quickly and pulled Bella into his arms. He could hear everyone’s thoughts. They could smell the girl upstairs in Carlisle’s office. He looked up from Bella’s shoulder and gave everyone a pointed stare telling them to keep it quiet until he could tell Bella.
He looked over at Alice and saw that she already knew everything. Edward looked down at his wife again and took her hand in his. He pulled her upstairs to their shared bedroom where he sat her down on the bed, taking both of her hands in his. He stared down at them trying to find the words to tell her everything that happened.
“Edward, what’s wrong?” He took a deep breath, a human habit he had never shaken when trying to say something difficult.
“I went hunting while you were out. I was tracking this cougar when I found a girl. The cougar was rabid and near to killing her. Bella, you have to believe me I did everything I could. I tried taking her to Carlisle but I was almost out of the forest when she was so close. I don’t know what came over me Bella. It was like I had no other choice…”
“You turned her.” While she was just stating it, he thought she had a tone that denoted her hurt from him not wanting to turn her, his wife, but he turned a stranger. Edward stood up and started pacing, much like he had done earlier.
“Bella, I know we were supposed to go out of town this weekend, but I promised her that I would be here the whole time. I’m so sorry Bella. I never meant for this to happen. You believe me, don’t you?” He turned to her and she was smiling a quiet smile at him. To say he was surprised by her reaction was an understatement. He was expecting yelling, cursing, screaming, punches into his chest. Instead she just smiled.
“Edward, I understand. I have to say I’m a little jealous that you turned her, but I’m glad you did. It sounds to me like you did exactly what Carlisle did with all of you. You gave her a second chance at life. Yes, it’s not a typical life, but she will still have experiences and make friends and find someone to love. If anything this just shows me exactly why I married you.”
“And why was that?”
“You’re completely selfless- most of the time. You care about others and that’s a very attractive trait in a man.” She stood up and hugged him, letting her warmth permeate through his sweater. He returned it with as much force as he dared. “Besides, the pack was going on a trip with weekend and Jake invited me. We already had plans, but now that this has happened, I guess my weekend just cleared up. Would you mind terribly if I went?” She was looking up at him with hopeful eyes.
“Alice doesn’t see the Volturri coming anytime soon. Where are you all going?”
“To Marysville, across the sound. One of Sam’s cousins is marrying a guy from the Tulalip tribe and they’re having a big potlatch as sort of an engagement party. It’s gonna be a really big thing, apparently.” Edward nodded in acquiescence. Bella smiled a bright smile and started packing quickly. They would be leaving the next morning.
“But listen Bella, you can’t tell Jake about what happened. I broke the treaty with what I did. There would be a full on war if the Quileute knew.”
“Yeah, I figured as much. But Edward, let me ask you something. How did you turn her? I mean, I know the technicalities of it, but how did you manage to pull away so that she would turn and not be killed?” Edward took a moment to reflect. He honestly didn’t know. All he had been thinking was that he couldn’t let the girl die and he just did everything in his power to prevent it. In fact he had been in such a trance that he didn’t realize much that was going on- like how he couldn’t hear her thoughts either, just like Bella.
“I honestly don’t know.” Bella just nodded and went back to packing.
Edward sat on the edge of the bed once again. Tuning in to the girl down the hall, he could hear that she was still sleeping. His venom would take several hours before she would begin changing.
He thought back to what Bella had said about him giving the girl a chance to find love. If only she knew that it was himself that he had given her the chance to love.
Edward was in Carlisle’s home office, watching the strange girl whom he found he loved not twenty four hours ago. Bella had left early that morning for the weekend long excursion and had barely said goodbye to him before she was out the door headed to the other man. Jacob. Though did he really have a right to feel jealous now that he loved another as well? Thinking about it, Edward realized that it wasn’t jealousy he was feeling- it was just a sense of protectiveness that he had developed for Bella over the last few years.
He was all alone in the large mansion, everyone busy with their own lives. Alice and Jasper were out hunting. Rosalie and Emmett were on their twenty-fifth honeymoon and Esme was visiting Carlisle at the hospital. It was just him and his mysterious love.
Edward was staring down at her, looking for signs that she was in pain. So far she had just lain on the table, almost as if she were already dead. ‘What is your name, little one? Why do I feel these things for you?’ Then it occurred to him that he had access to some answers. She had had a bag with her in the forest. No doubt it had some type of identification and some solutions to the mysteries surrounding her.
He looked down at the girl. He had promised her that he would be there then entire time. But he did need to hunt. He could always get the bag while hunting and he wouldn’t be any good to her if he was hungry.
The trip took no more than an hour. When he was back at the house and in Carlisle’s office, he listened intently to the girl’s heart while sifting through her bag. Carefully he took each item and laid them out on the table next to the examination cot. She had a journal, a pair of glasses, a change of clothes and her wallet. Edward set everything to the side and opened her wallet.

Edward stopped for a minute. Bella was with the Quileute tribe visiting the Tulalip tribe. Did this girl belong to the Tulalip? He put the wallet aside and opened the journal to the most recent entry. It was short and to the point, but might give some clue as to why she was in the middle of the forest. The last entry was dated four days previous.
October 18
I’ve finally scrounged enough money to leave. Emily did say that I was always welcome. I don’t want to intrude on her and Sam, but I can’t stay here anymore. Tonight he almost got thru the door. Thankfully he sat down to rest and passed out. I have just enough for some food and a ferry ticket. But I’ll be walking after that. I hope it doesn’t take more than a few days. I should get there before everyone leaves for Casey’s engagement party.
Edward looked up from the journal to the small girl lying on the medical bed. She was beginning to show signs of discomfort. He wondered who the ‘He’ was in her journal. Edward didn’t want to invade her privacy. He already felt horrible for going through her things. He was too proper to snoop, but he wanted to know more about her and maybe find out why he couldn’t read her thoughts.
