OC: Elleanor Dimitrious (Ellie, Elle)Red flats with polka dots were not exactly the way to go when running for your life, so I kicked them off mid run and picked up speed. The enemy was still close behind but at least they weren’t right on my heels. My name’s Elleanor but you can call me Ellie. The whole running for my life bit is basically the story of my life. Somehow, somewhere I always end up injured, bleeding, and running however not always in that order. But hey I guess that’s what you get when your parents were a very renowned Necromancer and a not so well renowned Demon. But hey nobody’s perfect. Currently I was running from a particularly nasty group – more like a cult – made up of mage’s and witches. I had taken back a very precious artifact that they had “barrowed” from my father’s storage. He had left me a storage unit when he died and it was full of weapons, both magical and normal. I hadn’t even noticed that the unit had been broken into until later in the week and it took me even longer to realize what item they had stolen. I had meant to catalogue everything in the room but I only found out about the storage unit a month ago, though he had died when I was little. Currently I was 23, and it wasn’t exactly my idea of a wonderful time. Alcohol and wild parties weren’t usually involved in my life, unlike my normal human counterparts. You see my job kept me pretty busy and it usually consisted of these types of events. So naturally the next step was to flee and dart behind a crate which had been riddled with holes from the stupid half demon wielding a freakin’ M4. Not my best idea for a hideout, but it wasn’t like I had many things to choose from. All I could do was sit tight and hope they wouldn’t shoot at me through the swiss cheese of a box. ‘If you come out and give us the rune we won’t kill you.’ Shouted some idiot from the other side of the doorway. If he thought I would listen to that he was sadly mistaken. I had seen way too many action films to believe his sincerity, besides my dad always told me to never trust demons. Except of course he married one. Go figure. ‘You expect me to believe you.’ I stated with a rather appropriate chuckle. I could see him through a particularly large hole and he rolled his eyes. ‘Would it help if I said please?’ He asked. I almost laughed out loud but that would insult him and make him shoot at me some more. Instead I threw a rather nasty sphere in his direction, which I had pulled from my pocket. It was called a disorienter, and did exactly what it said, disoriented. He looked around in utter confusion. That was my cue so I bolted for the door, stepping on something sharp of course, but I continued running until I was a good five blocks away. My chest heaved, I was way out of shape I realized as I struggled to pull the air in my lungs. When I stopped seeing spots I took the cell phone from my pocket and called an old friend. ‘Lenny!’ I cut off his hello with my breathless exclamation. ‘Ellie, is that you?’ he asked. ‘Yes,’ I took a sharp breath in, ’could you please…pick me…hold on a minute.’ I heaved a deep breath, “Could you please pick me up on the corner of Washington and Anvil.’ I finally got out and in one breath to. ‘Sure.’ He said then hung up. He knew how urgent it was when I called him for a ride so he didn’t question me, instead he rushed to find me. I waited for him in a doorway, my knife at the ready but hidden from any on lookers. As far as protection went I hadn’t been prepared to deal with any actual Mage’s let alone a demon, unfortunately I had seen several in my escape. So my measly knife would have to do if they came wandering over here.
Lenny, thank god, showed up about 2 minutes after my call. I dived into the passenger seat through the window before he could even open the door. When I was right side up I looked behind us to make sure we weren’t being followed. The demon who had been so idiotic was standing on the block behind the truck and glaring at me. I guessed he had followed my bloody foot print. I was lucky that Lenny had shown up when he did or I would have been fresh crispy toast. I could see his eyes shine with the promise of meeting again, soon. I very much hoped that would not happen.
Lenny had taken me to his apartment and made me soak my foot in benodine. So I was currently squeezing my eyes shut at the sting. I was not one for pain no matter how many times it seemed to happen to me. ‘Your lucky I answered my phone Elle. You could have been killed.’ He scolded. ‘I know, I know. I’m already gonna get a lecture from my uncle. Besides it wasn’t that bad.’ My uncle, who was also dead and currently haunting my house, thought he was my father. After my actual father died he had taken over the position, or so he thought, and saw fit to bore me with his long and uncalled for lectures. He had been dead for many years and had always followed my father around, due to a spell gone awry. When my parents and only remaining family died he had taken to pacing the house and moping when I ignored him. ‘He would be right to do so.’ Lenny looked at me sharply. He liked being my father too. ‘Please.’ Was all I said. Rolling his eyes he took my foot out of the mixture and patted away the congealed blood and dirt. I inhaled sharply at the sting but let him finish. The sooner I dealt with the pain the faster it would disappear.
After a long and torturous bandage job Lenny asked if I wanted a ride home.
‘No, I’ll take the car.’ I thanked him and grabbed my keys. My car was parked outside and I would not go home without an escape vessel in which to flee when I was scolded to death. I knew a lecture would be waiting for me when I returned and I wanted to greatly shorten the length of it. Of course I had planned on being injured to lighten the scolding, however not on my clutch foot!‘Elleanor!’ a deep and gravel filled voice echoed from all around me when I got home to the old colonial house my parents had left me. The resident ghost appeared in the doorway to the kitchen not moments after his voice called my name.
‘Yes Willie.’ I used the much hated nickname for good measure. His real name was William. ‘Lenny tells me you were out treasure hunting.’ He didn’t look happy and mind you spirits may be see through but they were quiet able to touch things, let a lone throw them at you. ‘Well he would be mistaken. I simply went to retrieve the rune that those stupid Mage’s stole and…’ ‘And of course it didn’t go like you had planned, as well as it wasn’t your fault.’ Willie, William, finished for me. ‘That’s not what I was going to say.’ I remained calm, even though every muscle in my body wanted to reach out and shout at him. ‘Well of course it isn’t Elleanor. But I’m sure it would be something to do with keeping your involvement minimal. It’s never your fault is it?’ He paused to take a breath he didn’t need and pinched the bridge of his nose which he didn’t feel. ‘When are you going to learn that the world is not safe for you, let alone the world in which your family had been involved in. You have no power of your own like me or your mother and father, and you need said power if you want to survive in the supernatural world.’ His tone wasn’t harsh but his words alone were. It was a quarrel we had been having for many years and frankly I was tired of hearing how much of a failure I was to the family. ‘As you keep reminding me. I know I’m worthless in the supernatural world and I know it’s dangerous. When are you going to learn that I am no longer a child that you can order around?!’ I had said my peace and walked out of the house and back into the car just as planned. I sped off angrily and zoomed in the direction of god knows where. My parents had been two of the most powerful supernatural human’s of their time and my uncle was right on their tales. My grandparents and their parents so on and so forth had all been equally powerful. But I come a long and don’t have one single drop of power in my blood. Not even the nobility of the long line of family before me allowed me a place in the demon court -not that I wanted one. It was very medieval and unfair but I had learned to live with it.After driving for a while I ended up at a bar called Mordigans that I seemed to always wind up at after these lovely quarrels with Will. The owner, Mordigan, was a very long lived mage who was about the only one of his kind I could stand being around. Course it helped that I was a crotchety old man at heart too. His bar was on the first level of the hotel he also owned which had at least 15 floors. He welcomed both human and supernatural clientele but the human that decided to brave this neighborhood was indeed an idiot. The location was on purpose. Mordigan liked humans but he preferred the money supes paid. I closed the car door behind me, tucking the hand gun from my glove compartment in my jeans, and walked to the bar. I was dripping with rain by the time I got to the door which was only a few feet away. Count on it to rain in the middle of summer. Such was the good ol’ golden state. ‘May I take your coat miss?’ a man, no a satyr, asked me as I walked into the bar. I looked for his goat legs but found none. I guess I was pretty obvious because he chuckled. ‘It’s a glamour.’ Which I figured. Thanks to my supernatural inheritance I didn’t get I couldn’t see through glamour’s. I smiled, ‘Can I talk to Mordigan?’ I went straight to the point but I wasn’t rude about it. ‘Depends who’s inquiring.’ He lifted a well manicured eyebrow. ‘Elleanor Dimitrious.’ He bowed and went to tell Mordigan I was here, I guessed. You never knew with Satyrs. One moment they were smiling and laughing the next they were covered in blood and snarling. They were after all related to their great forefathers Pan and Dionysus. Greek gods tended to be a little specific in their servants and gave only the power of ecstasy, seduction, and madness to the Satyr. Since then their nature had been greatly decreased in potency but a lingering sense of it was still there specially the pure bloods. So I always watched myself around them. The Satyr was making his way back to me not a minute later. He beckoned when he saw I caught sight of him and waited for me to catch up. He lead me up the stairs at the back of the bar and into a long hallway. It had a velvet carpet, green, flowing down the middle of the floor and dark wooden doors every so many feet. The Satyr didn’t take me to any of them but continued up another flight of stairs and into another hallway. This one was pretty much the same besides the doors. It had two doors, one on each side of the hallway. I was lead into the right one. Inside was a rather nice waiting room. I had seen better but for a mage ran bar and hotel it was accommodating and I wasn’t picky. Plush two person couches stood against the same wall as the door and a small desk sat across from them. A frail looking woman sat behind it, but I knew better than to think she was frail. I could tell by the look in her eyes when she caught my gaze that she was werewolf, and an old one at that. It was in the slight yellow haze to her blue eyes. No matter how long you lived the animal was always stronger than you. As we walked by her she smiled at the Satyr and went back to work.
A large ebony door stood at the end of the small hallway leading to Mordigan’s office; yes another hallway.
I knew if I was left alone I would get lost and it would take me a week to find my way back out. The Satyr let me go in but didn’t follow. He closed the door behind me when I was no longer in the way of it’s swing. ‘What do you want?’ a man asked in front of me. I looked up and saw Mordigan sitting in a cozy expensive chair behind a large and paper filled desk. He looked the same as always: Fluffy chops, a balding head, and a rather small beer belly. ‘I can’t just come by to say hi how are ya?’ I asked walking forward but not sitting. ‘You, come to say hello without anything attached. Don’t make me laugh sweetheart.’ He practically shouted in amusement. ‘Not everyone needs something from you.’ I insisted. ‘Sure, sure.’ he chuckled. ‘What is it you want?’ an eyebrow raised as I watched him closely. He was acting inhospitable and ridiculous and it wasn’t very much like him. On a good day he loved me on a bad day he loved me, and he certainly never flat out disliked me. Something was wrong. ‘What’s wrong?’ I asked, careful on the icy ground I treaded. ‘Nothing. Now tell me what you want woman?’ his eyes practically bulged from his face. But before he almost yelled at me a slight expression of panic flushed his face. ‘What’s wrong?’ I mouthed. He nodded carefully in the direction of the desk. I assumed he meant under it, which was closed off in my direction but was definitely large enough to house at least two men on his side. I slowly pulled the gun from my jeans and aimed it at the desk. ‘I just wanted a room.’ I played along. ‘Well you can’t have one.’ His nasty guttural tone was back. I guess a few hundred years were a long time to perfect those acting skills, because he damn well frightened me. ‘Please?’ I clearly pleaded, my voice not sounding exactly as desperate as I intended. ‘No, now get out!’ ‘Come on Mordigan. How many times have I saved your ass! The least you could do is help me out here!’ I shouted back. ‘Do I have to physically throw you out Elleanor?’ he slammed his fist on the desk and stood. ‘Maybe you do.’ I retorted. He came around the desk and was almost to me when his “visitors” realized he was a Mage and could throw me out without getting up from his cozy chair. They sprung from their hiding place and turned on me eyes blazing. Shit was just about the only word going through my mind. I had silver bullets, blessed bullets, cursed bullets, rubber bullets, but nothing that would slow down let a lone stop a vampire. I usually didn’t go up against many of them so I wasn’t prepared. Next time I was gonna have a whole arsenal of bullet types in my pocket. They came at me and I unleashed a fury of plain ol’ bullets on them. As they tore through the bullets, not the other way around, Mordigan pulled me from the office. He had the back of my jacket firmly glued into his hand and pulled me down the hallways as I let loose the empty clip and slid a full one into place. I kept a steady flow of gun fire from that point on. The vampires were right on our ass and I shouted for Mordigan to run faster but it seemed he was going as fast as he could. Apparently super human magic didn’t make you run much faster than a vampire. The dreaded metal sound of my last clip ending made me wonder why I even bothered shooting at them. So I stuffed the gun back into my pants and practically jumped onto Mordigan when a vampire made a grab for me. He just missed me, or so I thought. Blood slowly darkened the leg of my pants as we landed on the bottom level of the bar. Joy, more pain, my foot had only stopped hurting maybe 5 minutes ago. ‘Hold on.’ Mordigan said and rushed the crowd. He squeezed the life out of my hand as my other one wrapped around his wrist and we actually made it through the riot of people. The vampires had gotten stuck around mid crowd and were currently pushing people aside with their inhuman strength. We darted past the front doors and continued at a run until we came across a nice new Mustang. He pulled the keys from his pocket and unlocked the car. ‘Really? A Mustang.’ I had to ask. How did the worlds oldest and richest mage get by driving a Mustang. They were nice enough cars but they had nothing on the new Camaro let a lone a nice fast sports car, fast being the key word here. ‘Just get in.’ he said and started the car. I hopped into the passenger side and put my seat belt on, safety first. Mordigan took off, braking every law in the driver’s handbook. ‘Where are we going?’ I asked gripping the “Oh Shit” handle above the door. ‘Away from here.’ ‘That doesn’t tell me where we’re going.’ I pointed out. ‘The Senate.’ He kicked down the clutch and shifted into sixth gear. I didn’t exactly know how he thought he was going to get out of a speeding ticket if he was pulled over but I guess a Mage could out run a human policeman. Or should I say I hoped. ‘The Mage Senate?’ I presumed was what he meant. ‘No the Vampires.’ He took a corner particularly hard and I slammed into him, the bruise already growing. I was ready to throw open the door and walk my ass to a hotel. Of course I was too shocked at what he had said to actually follow through with my plan. Well that and the fact that it would cause more pain. ‘The what!’ I shouted over the roar of the engine. ‘The Vampire Senate.’ He repeated. ‘No I heard you. I meant why are we going there. Isn’t that who we just ran from?’ ‘Those were a separate organization. We are going to ask why they don’t keep better control over their creations.’ Mordigan looked determined and I wasn’t going to stand in his way if he wanted to get himself killed. I mean I liked the man but there was no way I was getting myself killed for a few hundred year old Mage. I had barely lived 23 years and I didn’t want that to be the oldest age I got to...I do have more to come but let me know what you think, and see if you can guess who Ellie's lover will be :3
