Mika splashed Elias with a grin, then dunked her nephew. Rissa was at an over night slumber party, and shocking enough, Elias was supposedly leaving for the night too, to his friend Eric's. She had called Richard, who was, sadly, busy with work- grading and such. She crowed at her success. “I win!”
He gagged on water. "You cheat." He swam over to the side of the pool.
"You're just a sore loser." She snickered, and shook her head at the teen.
"No, you're just a big, fat cheater." He climbed out of the pool.
"Uh huh... Your point? Darwin's theory, Elias." Mika swam over to the ladder and pulled herself from the water, grabbing a towel.
He shoved her into the pool, towel and all. "I prefer my theory better!" He took off running.
She clawed her way to the surface and left the towel floating in the water as she clambered out of the pool and after her nephew with speed that only a lycanthrope would have, grabbing him about the waist. "HA!"
"GAH!" He tried to break free of her grip. "No fair! You're a wolf."
"I'm head bitch wolf to you young man!" Mika cackled, tickling him.
"Haha, you called yourself a bitch." He was a bit shocked to hear her say it and found it hilarious.
"I am one, Elias." She grinned and let him go. "And you remember that."
"Yes, ma'am." He saluted her and ran into the house and up to his room.
Mika shook her head and laughed. A few days ago, she and the kids had decided to paint the livingroom, what with all three of them detesting the pinkish coral color it currently was. Instead, they'd decided a nice greenish blue color would be better. It was a happy color, and it matched well with everything else.
She got Elias to Eric's before she began to clear the living room, moving most of the furniture into an unused room that she planned to later use for an office.
Sighing, she began painting, trying, and failing to keep the paint off of herself. By now, it was dark, past nine in the evening, and she could hear the peepers chirping outside.
Mika hummed softly, then stopped as she heard a noise. What...?
Richard adjusted the bag he was carrying. He had bought wine and food to surprise Mika with. He headed around the back to try and really surprise her.
Setting the brush down carefully, she moved to the back of the house where she heard the noise, crouching as she readied herself for whoever had the cojones to break into her house. The children could have been there! She growled softly.
Richard tried the back door, it was unlocked. He smiled and walked into the house.
Mika sprang forward, knocking the intruder to the ground and pinned him, sending the bags and whatever he was carrying sprawling over the floor. "Who the hell do you think you are?!"
"Shit!" Richard yelled as he hit the ground. "Mika, it's me!" He had heard the wine bottle shatter.
She froze, gasping. "Oh God... I just tried to kill my boyfriend." Mika crawled off of him, looking utterly mortified. "I'm... going to go die now..." She clapped her hands to her cheeks, and ran upstairs to the bathroom.
Richard shook his head and cleaned up the mess. He went upstairs and knocked on the door. "Mika?"
"I'm trying to curl up in a ball and die, Richard..." Mika sat in the tub, her head in her paint splattered hands, her knees pulled up to her chest. "It works better if you don't distract me."
"Mika, it's ok. Everything is cleaned up and fine." He tried the door and found she had locked it.
"I attacked you."
"You thought I was breaking in."
She bit her lip, climbing from the tub and unlocking the door, a look of near childish guilt on her face. "Sorry..."
He hugged her to his chest. "It's ok."
Mika hid her face in his chest. "Still. That really... sucked."
"You didn’t get tackled to the ground."
She whimpered. "I'm really sorry...." She peered up at him. "Did I hurt you?"
"Only my pride, dear, only my pride." He kissed her forehead.
She reached up, gently pushing his hair back. "What was all the stuff you were carrying or am I better off not asking?"
"A bottle of wine and some Chinese food. I had to throw it all away." He hugged her tightly.
Moaning, Mika let her head fall to his chest. "I'm so sorry... so much for a romantic surprise..."
"It was a nice thought, but now I'll have to buy you some dinner."
She brushed her lips over his. "You don't have to..."
"I want to. Go get dressed. We'll go to The Lunatic Cafe." He left her go.
"At least let me help pay... You shouldn't have to pay twice." She scrubbed the paint quickly from her hands and face, then tugged off her paint splattered clothes.
"No. I am paying for dinner." He watched her dress.
Mika slipped into a pair of nice slacks, pulling up the rear zipper before digging through her dresser for a top. "You're stubborn, you know that, right? It's not like I do anything for you..."
"You make me happy. That is more than enough for me. I like that red one." He told her.
"It's still not fair..." She tugged on the top and peered into the mirror. "Can I have a moment to put my hair up again? It's starting to come out of the chignon it's in..."
"Take as long as you need." He sat down on her bed. "I'll be here when you want me."
Her hands paused in pulling the pins from her hair before she shook it free. That was dirty sounding... very. Bad Mika. She bit her lower lip and reached for her brush.
Richard laid back on her bed. He knew this could take a while, so he decided to make himself comfortable.
She glanced over her shoulder, deciding that her hair could stay down. She smiled as she saw him and crawled onto the bed, leaning over him. "I thought we were going to dinner, not napping..."
He grunted at her. "Dinner first, nap later." He rolled so she was under him. He kissed her quickly and got off her bed.
She sat up on her elbows and pouted. "Figures. Typical male. Food first, woman second." She gave him a cheeky wink before standing.
He laughed loudly. "I'll get my woman later." He put his arm around her shoulders.
"Will you, now?" Mika smirked, trailing a finger down his chest to hook in his belt. "So confident...."
"Always." He led her outside to his car.
"So... you'll hold my hand when we get there?" She buckled her seat belt, grinning at him.
He shook his head as he started the car.
She quirked a brow, tucking her hair behind her ears.
He drove them to the Lunatic Cafe.
Mika climbed out of the car as he parked.
He locked the car and headed inside with her. "It's busy tonight."
"So it seems..." She glanced around, spotting several pack members and other lycans that she knew.
"It's a nice place to come." He opened the door for her.
"Thanks." She stepped inside, waving to a fellow wolf as she wondered what Richard was thinking. Mika smoothed her hands down the front of her slacks, then pushed her hair back over her shoulders once more.
Richard waved at a few wolves as they made their way to a table. It was nice to be out with Mika. It wasn't very often he got time with her.
"So... how's Elias been doing in class? Is he giving you any trouble?"
"He's been doing quite well. He's gotten the high score on ever test we've had since you talked to him."
"I'm glad. He's really quite intelligent." Mika slid into her chair. "I was worried he'd give you issues because we're seeing each other."
"I think he's glad we're together, after all he did get us together." They ordered drinks. Richard leaned back in his chair.
"True, though I don't think he was expecting us to... I don't know. Get along as well as we do." She flipped through her menu, her brow slightly furrowed as she read.
"Have sex." He replied. He didn't bother with the menu. He knew exactly what he wanted.
Her menu slipped through her fingers as she blushed darkly. It fell to the floor. "I.. yes. That."
Richard laughed. "You're so cute when you blush."
"So you say." Mika reached down, picking it up.
"Well you are." He reached over and squeezed her hand.
"I'm twenty-eight, Richard." She smiled, shaking her head. "I don't think people my age are cute."
“You'll always be cute to me." He kissed her hand.
She tightened her fingers around his. "Thanks... so... what's good here? To eat?"
"I get a burger with a side of fries." He motioned to the menu. "Take a look at the menu."
"Well, last time I did, you had to shock me so I dropped it." Mika opened it again, sticking her tongue out at him over the top of it.
He snickered and looked around the room.
"Hmm... I think I'll get the Philly Cheese steak and Portobelo mushrooms...." She smiled as the waiter approached the table.
Richard ordered his burger and fries. "So how are the kids?"
"Great. Rissa's at a birthday party- we spent most of the other night finding the perfect doll for her little friend. She fell in love with it, so I bought two... Elias is Elias, though I'm starting to think that he has a crush on Jase." Mika sipped her tea.
Richard looked at her. "Jase? As in Jason's twin sister?"
"One and the same." She giggled, shaking her head. "He keeps being overly nice to her... giving her chocolate and such..."
He shook his head. "Kids are so great. Have you told her yet?"
"Jase? Not yet. I was going to mention it next time that I saw her." Mika traced the top of her glass with her index finger, then licked away the moisture.
Richard followed her fingers up to her mouth. He quickly looked away. "Yeah, that'll be funny."
She placed her finger over the top of her straw, then lifted it to her lips, sucking the trapped tea from it absently. "That's what I thought."
Mika was killing him and she didn't even know it. He was thankful that the food arrived just then.
"Ohh... thanks." She grinned at the waiter and cut her sandwich in half. "Something wrong, Richard?"
"Nothing." He took a bite out of his burger when his phone started to ring.
"Shouldn't you get that?" She began to eat, making a noise of appreciation at the taste of the sandwich.
He answered his phone. It was Jason needed a ride home from the hospital. Richard sighed. "I'm at dinner, but give me thirty minutes. Bye." He hung up.
"What's wrong?"
"Jason needs a ride home from the hospital. He doesn’t want to call Caleb and doesn't want to disturb his sister and Nathaniel."
Mika paused. "Jason was in the hospital?"
"Lucian beat the crap out of him." Richard ate some fries.
"Uh huh... and Lucian is the guy he... well... you know... with?" She continued eating, a bit confused
He nodded. "Yeah, its all convoluted."
"Very." She finished half of her sandwich, and shook her head. "I'll need a doggy bag. I had dinner with the kids too... so..."
"So you're full. We didn't have to go to dinner if you didn't want to." He asked the waiter for two boxes.
"Richard, it was great... and I wanted to. I would have said no if I didn't want to. Besides, I ate with them at five... It's past nine now." She bit her lip, thanking the waiter as he brought them. "You can finish yours..."
"I'm good. I'll just take it home or maybe feed Jason with it."
"You make him sound like a stray." Her lips quirked. "Other than that, how is he doing? And Caleb, do you know?"
"I have no idea. All I know is that they're fighting." He packed up him food.
"Oh." Mika stood and began stacking her dishes so that the wait staff would have an easier job cleaning their table.
He paid for the food and they headed pack to the car.
She struggled not to fidget in her seat, wondering why Richard seemed... quiet tonight. Probably because she'd attacked him like a moron. She sighed, and looked out the window at street lights as they drove past.
Richard dropped Mika off at her house. "I'll call you later. Knowing Jason he's going to want me to stay for a while."
She nodded as she got out of the car. "Alright. Night." She shut the car door quietly and disappeared into the house.
Richard ran a hand through his hair. Damn Jason. He'd wanted to make this night special and everything had been ruined. He sighed loudly.
