Jase fidgeted as Dr. Lillian got ready to do the exam.
Nathaniel fought the urge to pace, looking at the table. "This room is terrifying."
"Just relax. You're not the one that is spread eagle." She smiled at him.
"I know... but it looks like a not so pleasurable torture palace..."
Jase snorted as Lillian came into the room. "Hello Doctor."
"Good afternoon, Jase." She smiled at both of them. "Now, you've filled out the paperwork already, so we can get to the fun part." Lillian sat on a stool, putting on gloves.
Jase got as comfortable as a person could get. She closed her eyes.
"Well, dear, I want to do a urine test, just to be sure." Lillian backed away after the exam. "So you can head down to the lab, alright?"
She nodded. "Sure thing. Does everything look ok, though?"
"Everything looks fine, dear." Lillian smiled. "And if my guess is correct, you are expecting. I just would like to make extra sure."
Nathaniel chewed at his lip.
Jase nodded and watch the doctor leave. She got dressed. "Don't look so nervous, dear." She kissed Nathaniel and they headed to the lab.
"How can I not look nervous? How can... God, I'll have nightmares about that room..."
"It's alright." She stayed close to him.
He took her hand, squeezing it.
"We'll be ok." Jase reassured him.
"I know. I'm just... I'm excited, scared, nervous... excited..." Nathaniel smiled at her, kissing her.
"Me too." She got the stupid little cup you had to pee into. "These things make me feel so dumb. Guys have it easy."
"Much easier... thank God I'm a man." He kissed her again. "I'll wait for you."
Jase got a sample and gave it to the lab tech.
Nathaniel took Jase's hand again as they waited.
After about five minutes, Lillian came to them, grinning widely. "Congratulations! You're pregnant, Jase!"
Jase burst into tears of joy. "We're going to have a baby."
Grinning, Nathaniel pulled Jase in his arms. "Oh my God... we're going to be parents!"
She laughed. "It's so exciting."
He spun her in a circle, kissing her deeply before suddenly paling, ashen. "I... I feel faint..."
"Are you ok?" Jase stroked his face.
"I... I think... I need to sit."
"Oh dear. New daddy syndrome." Lillian shook her head, pushing the leopard into a chair, then his head between his knees.
She sat down next to him and rubbed his back. "Just keep breathing."
"That's a dear. In and out."
Nathaniel's ears turned pink. "I"m sorry..."
"It's ok. You are just excited." Jase smiled at him.
Nathaniel sat up slowly, then kissed her. "We're going to have a baby!"
She hugged him tightly. "Wait 'til I tell the pack."
"And Jason!" He froze. "Shit. He'll kill me!"
"No he won't. One, we're married. Two, I'll kick his ass." She smiled sweetly at him.
"You're sure?"
Jase nodded. "Positive."
Nathaniel kissed her once more before standing. "Let's go shopping."
"You want to go shopping?" She asked.
"Of course! We need to get the nursery ready- a crib, a changing table, a play pen, a stroller-"
Jase threw her arms around him. "My parents will be so excited."
He stilled. "Yeah... parents." Nathaniel gulped, envisioning an angry father.
"They said they wanted grandchildren."
"Oh. Grandchildren.... so your dad isn't going to string me up?"
"No, but if it's a boy he'll want him to be given our family name." Jase actually shuddered.
Nathaniel blinked. "What?"
"We have a middle name that get's past from father to son, but since I doubt Jason will be getting Caleb pregnant anytime soon. Then it'll fall on me."
"Well... I'd want... to name a son after Nicholas..." Nathaniel bit his lip as they began to leave the were hospital.
"Of course dear. Nicholas Reginald Graison." Jase said. She looked at him. "That woman...Emiko, she called. She is really convinced that your brother is alive."
Nathaniel stilled. "Regin- Jase... he can't be alive. It's not possible." He continued walking, a tenseness in him that wasn't there a moment before.
"Nathaniel, did it smell like she was lying?"
"I don't want to talk about it, Jase." Something in him faltered, and he swallowed. He couldn't be wrong...
Jase sighed. "You know I wouldn't push this, but she sent me a picture Nathaniel." She took the folded photography out of her pocket and pressed it into his hand. "I want to walk for a bit. I'll meet you at the car later."
Nathaniel stared at the picture in his hand before slowly unfolding it and feeling his heart clench. "Nicky..." He breathed, staring at the face so like his own. Nicky's blue eyes hadn't changed, though he'd certainly grown. Taller, broader... shorter hair, not that that was surprising... with his arm around Emiko. The picture wasn't very old, the date was recent... and his brother was alive.
Jase shook as she walked. She knew Nicky was alive. That picture was proof. Emiko wasn't there for some dark reason. She just wanted the Graison boys back together.
"Well... well... who would have figured you for stupid?" Shayne's voice cut through the night. "The first time wasn't good enough?"
Jase froze. He'd found her. She turned around to face him, heart pounding. "I heard some one sprung you, you worthless peace of shit." She growled low in throat.
"Now, now, my little bitch... didn't you have fun playing last time?" He smiled, the look twisted, sick. "You've been up to a lot since I was locked up... knocked up again just like the good little whore you are..."
"Better a whore then a soulless bastard." Her mind was racing, but she could think was, 'SAVE THE BABY!'
"Tsk, tsk... Not soulless. After all... I've got your baby's soul... don't I?" Shayne smirked. "And I'll have yours..."
A fist flew out of no where, connecting on his jaw and knocking the unsuspecting wolf backwards as Nathaniel growled at him, putting himself between Jase and Shayne. "Think again, sicko. You're dead."
"Nathaniel!" Jase shouted as Shayne got to his feet.
"You'll pay for that you stupid ass cat." He leaped at Nathaniel.
"Get out of here, Jase. Now!" Nathaniel shifted, lunging at Shayne, sinking claws and teeth into the wolf, trying to get to his throat.
She was torn between running and staying to help her mate, but the cold metal of a gun pressed against her temple made her go still. "You're not going anywhere." Anita snarled.
Shayne grabbed his hands before his claws could do a lot of damage. He slammed Nathaniel to the ground and tried to choke the cat.
Nathaniel growled at him, before he started to choke, struggling to breathe. He pushed his legs up between them, and shoved Shayne off of him.
"So you let Shayne out. Nice job Bolverk." She said sarcastically and Anita pistol-whipped her.
"These are silver bullets, you boyfriend stealing slut." Anita informed her. As if Jase couldn't smell the silver.
Jase seemed very calm. "He loves he more then he could ever love a bitch like you." Anita went to hit her again, but Jase moved quickly grabbed Anita's arm and dislocating it. Anita screamed as she dropped the gun.
Shayne, however, was up again, and once again attacking, pinning the weaker leopard to the ground. "Now look, you little whore... see your pretty wife? Thinking she can fend her own with the Executioner-"
Nathaniel made a noise, a weak one as he felt Shayne's clawed hands digging into him. Lights flashed, and he heard it. The familiar sounds of the city busses... that traveled as excessive speeds. Seeing Anita reach for her other gun, and how close the bus was... and where they were, Nathaniel forced himself to scream, "Bus!" in hopes that Jase would hear and understand.
They had to protect their baby. Turning his head, he sunk his leopard sharp teeth into Shayne's hand and bit, hearing bone break, and feeling muscle tear before the wolf pulled back, his hand dangling, nearly disconnected from his arm as blood poured from the wound.
Jase saw Anita go for the gun and heard Nathaniel's cry of bus. She shoved Anita into the street just as the bus passed. She didn't stop to look at the mangled mess that was now the Executioner. Instead, she ran to Nathaniel and hit Shayne in the back of the neck as hard as she could and heard the crack she was waiting for. He went down and Jase grabbed Nathaniel up and ran with him to the car. She half tossed him into the passenger's seat and took off.
The cat made a groaning noise, closing his eyes as he laid again the seat. Shayne hadn't mortally wounded him, but he'd still cut him up rather badly.
"I'd clean you up when we get home." Jase's voice quivered. She'd just killed someone. She didn't like killing. She tried not to think about the fact that little pieces of the bitch were splattered all over a bus. She bit her lip. Do or die. She had done so she wouldn't die. "Fuck." She screamed when she realized how badly she was shaking.
Nathaniel moved, resting his head in her lap, pressing his ear to her belly.
"The baby is ok." She petted him. "And we're ok. Shayne will be down and out for a while and Anita is dead."
He licked her, making a small, reassuring noise.
Jase pressed her palm against the side of his head as they pulled into the driveway. She had never been so relived to be home.
Nathaniel pawed at the handle on his door, growling when it didn't work.
She grabbed her mate and held him tightly. Her wolf pressed against his leopard, whimpering.
His beast surrounded hers, protecting as he heard a shout. Jason?
Jason heard them arrive, but when they didn't come in he felt like something was wrong. He ran out to the car and say Jase crying. He quicky pried what had happened out of her.
Caleb watched his mate pull Jase into his arms and quickly got Nathaniel into a position where he could lift him. "Jason, get the door. We need to get him cleaned up."
Jase pulled away from her brother and wiped her eyes. Jason quickly opened the door for his lover and helped Jase gather up medical supplies.
Shoving the dinner they'd readied off the table, piling it haphazardly on the counter, he set Nathaniel on the table. "That'll teach that asshole to underestimate us, Nathaniel... You did good... you saved Jase and the baby...and she protected your little family... you're both safe..." Caleb seemed to be trying to reassure himself as much as Nathaniel. Catching Shayne's scent, he turned, barely making it to the waste basket before vomiting.
Nathaniel made a concerned noise, but was unable to do anything.
Jason wrapped his arms around Caleb. He whispered words of reassurance to him.
Jase began to take care of Nathaniel's wounds. Luckily, he only had some cuts and scrapes. She sighed. Nathaniel’d had the picture of Nicky and he'd probably stuck it in his pocket. She'd have to ask Emiko about getting another picture.
Caleb shook as he turned, burying his face in Jason's shoulder. "I'm sorry... I... I'm sorry... I didn't... Sorry..."
Nathaniel licked Jase, trying to make sure she wasn't hurt.
"You did fine, Caleb." He held the other man tightly in his arms. "It'll be ok."
Jase kissed his muzzle and reassured him that she was ok. "There are several people who need to know what's going on. Watch Nathaniel for me Jason." She said as she glided into the other room.
Nathaniel made to follow her, getting ready to jump down from the table.
Jason stopped him. "You just rest."
Jase called Micah first, then Jean-Claude. She sighed as she finally called Richard and Mika to deliver the news. Anita's dead and Shayne was hurt. Let's have a party. She rubbed her temples as she hung up with the Ulfric.
Growling at Jason, Nathaniel moved to the other end of the table to find Caleb blocking him. He didn't like Jase being this far from him!
Jase shooed them away and picked Nathaniel up. "We'll be upstairs." She carried him up the stairs and plopped him onto their bed. "Please shift back in the bath tub." She mumbled as she laid down next to him.
He whimpered at her, licking her face. If he changed, he didn't know that he could make it back to the bed.
"Later. Shift later." She pulled him close to her body.
Nathaniel curled against her, convinced he was not going to be able to sleep. Exhaustion, however won, and he was soon sound asleep, though part of him was on alert.
Jase ran a hand down his side. She loved the feel of his fur. It got her thinking about the baby. She wondered if it would be a shape-shifter and if so what animal would it take on?
They lay there, leopard and his mate, curled together.
